I am curious about more detail on the Dolphin? Does the $250-500 recovery fee apply to those who stay in non-smoking rooms with balconies there as well? We have one party member who smokes, but we are staying in non-smoking rooms. I would appreciate any information on the smoking policy at the Dolphin. :goodvibes

The Dolphin ALLOWS smoking in rooms designated as smoking rooms. The Dolphin, despite it's location, is not a Disney owned resort.

The Swan is 100% smoke free.

Call the Dolphin for exact details on their current smoking policy but as of today, their website indicates they are taking bookings for smoking rooms.

The Downtown Disney hotels are not Disney owned and are not considered on property resorts. Not sure what the specifics are of each deal for each hotel but they do not get most of the perks of a Disney resort - such as EMH; DME; charging in the parks, etc...

Thanks, I will have to check further to see which, if any of the resorts still allow smoking. Those hotels might be a good option, especially if you still get the most perks!

Only the Swan, the Dolphin, and Shades of Green, give you pretty much all the perks of staying in a Disney-owned resort... except Magical Express, the Dining Plan, and package delivery. Guests at the Hilton get to participate in EMH, but that's about it for perks for Hotel Plaza Boulevard.

We own at the VWL and I just noted on the map that the DSA is out the back - looks like on the way out to the pool area. Has anyone stayed at either the Lodge or the Villas who is a smoker? I am wondering how this plays out having to use the elevator to go to first floor, etc. to get to the DSA. We stayed at SSR last Dec. and a resort such as that would make it much easier for me, a smoker, to get to a DSA since there are no elevators and it would be easy to get 1st floor room. Seems that getting a smoke will be more of a trek at some resorts than others.

Do people ride the elevators down with their morning coffee to get to DSA?

I thought you could not 'charge to your room' at these resorts.. am I wrong?

Yep...:coffee: and in my bunny slippers:eek: too :rotfl: I too am an owner at VWL and am wondering the same thing about logistics. I am going to request "1st floor near DSA" and see how it goes on this trip.popcorn::

We own at BCV and are wondering the same thing. DH doesn't like first floor rooms but might change his tune when he sees where the DSA's are located. (I have a feeling first floor rooms might become very popular.)

How do I verify what is included as a guest and what isn't? Should I just call the Dolphin? I was informed on another post that the package delivery is included at the Swan/Dolphin. This is one of the most important perks to my husband...:lmao: He is the one who ends up carrying the most packages, I will admit.

I suggest calling them or asking on the Swan/Dolphin thread here on the DIS.

We are trying to keep this on topic regarding smoking at the resorts. Thank you.

Great information on this thread. Thank you. I am going in late November and staying at the All Star Sports in a preferred section so am hoping for a ground floor with a close DSA! Love the info on this thread.

I just spoke with a CM tonight and asked how the smoking policy was working. The main issue was in over-booking - a non-smoker would be put in a designated smoking room - - raise a large fuss - understandably - Disney would end up paying for the first night's stay and then moving the guest - all at a considerable expense. Easiest answer - no smoking in any rooms - problem solved!! So they are really serious and tough about no smoking in the rooms and on the balconies. They have very little concerns about where or when you are smoking outside of the buildings or in the pool areas.

This policy should be reasonable for any smoker to follow. I am a heavy smoker - we have always stayed in a DS Room - but I haven't smoked in the room for years.

So, fellow smokers the issue isn't a healthy environment - a great family place - but the bottom line $$$ cost to Disney and I can understand this and support them in the decision - after all - when costs go up they are just passed along to the rest of us. So let's pitch in and make this work!!

I'm not sure if the resorts already converted all the smoking rooms to nonsmoking, therefore I don't know if this can be answered but I don't want to read all 15 pages ... :rotfl:

Has anyone been in a room that was previously a smoking room? Could you tell the difference, smell wise?

My grandma smokes ... when we stay at a resort we always do a nonsmoking room and she just goes outside (which she loves b/c as she has stated "I get to get away from you crazy kids":woohoo: ) ...

Once we were given a smoking room by accident :headache: ... when we walked into the room our family couldn't handle the smell and went back to the lobby to fix it :) ... however, my grandma didn't mind the room lol :rotfl2: ... but back on track with my question above

Thanks :)

Nobody knows the real timetable for this conversion of all the rooms or if the rooms not yet converted have been taken out of active room inventory until they have been cleaned etc.

We all have theories. But nobody here on this board really knows for sure.

You know, this (what you were told, NOT that you’re reporting it to us!) doesn’t even make sense. OKW had three smoking-optional :teeth: buildings out of about forty-eight. That’s just a little over six percent of the buildings (and, by extension, rooms). The numbers just don’t support the claim.

I acn totally see the no smoking in rooms .No problem with that it's the no smoking on balconies I have the problem with. That definately is not a $$$ issue. I have suggested allowing smoking on the balconies on the top floors as a reasonable solution for all. Like many smokers I enjoy stepping out of my room for a smoke and not hiking across the resort to a DSA.

The problem with smoking on balconies is that the smoke can still enter your room and worse it goes over the balconies of your neighbors, beside, above and below you, and sometimes enters their rooms. Non-smokers should be able to enjoy their balconies without having to breath in smoke.

The problem with smoking right outside of your room is that the smoke gets sucked in by the A/Cs of the surrounding rooms and blows it all over the rooms.

I've looked at some of the DSA maps and read the smoking threads. For most of the resorts there is usually a DSA nearby, none of the resorts make you hike across it to get to a DSA.

We always stay in building 19 OKW, previously smoking. During our stays on more than one occasion a non-smoker was put in that building that did create a large problem for the front desk. OKW is almost always booked at over a 90% occupancy. My reporting on what a CM related to me was only in reference to OKW, not to any of the other resorts. I really don't think the DSA areas at OKW should cause a problem for any smoker - and I am one of them!! There is a DSA outside of every building, with benches!! I know - because I spend six weeks every year sitting there, I refer to it as the Lobby!!! It is a great way to meet wonderful people!!
