(CLOSED) The Smoking DSA's @ Resorts Info Thread

We have stayed for six weeks for the last few years. Hate to burst anyone's b Pixie Dust bubble. The rooms for DVC are cleaned weekly not daily - and nothing is changed out in the six weeks - not even the towels. But I am OCD about keeping everything washed!! As I said, I will wait for Guest Services reply!

I'd suggest you insist on having someone sent from the front desk to your room upon check-in to affirm the room was "clear" and to "note" on your ressie that a member of your party may own/pocess clothing etc.., that COULD lead to a 'false-positive' reading at the conclusion of your stay.
Does anyone else have a different/better suggestion???

It sounds silly but its true. My wife and I are non-smokers and when I go visit my sister who smokes, the first thing my wife says when I walk in the door and I am still 10 feet away from her is "You have been over to your sisters haven't you". I can see this as a problem with a guest being fined when they were simply smoking in the DSA areas and the smell is transferred back to the room when they re-enter it...smjj

yeah I mean my MIL is heavy smoke she lives in FL and its always an issue when she comes to visit. I have to hose down everything with febreeze. I dont care if she smokes its her decision but we dont and the smell is alot for us as no one in our lives smokes.

Basically I think that the leftovers on clothes and hair and skin wouldn't be significant enough to set off the detectors*. because they would be absorbed mainly by the bedspread, sheets and pillow and eventually washed off.. so maybe some left on towels.

These are trace amounts... and those items would be changed out over a six week period.. daily. Even the bedspread should get changed at the 4 week mark.

I'm a smoker and recently stayed in a room at CSR after the new policy took effect. I smoked at the DSA's several times and then immediately afterwards proceeded directly to my room. I was not fined anything.. so whatever residual was on me wasn't enough to cause any concern.

I think sometimes we tend to over analyze things on the DIS and I do believe this falls under that category.

And if it was.. it would register only trace amounts. Not the LARGE amounts that would show up if you actually smoked in the room. Residual smoke smell generally tends to the follow the person and not linger indefinitely in a room -- provided they have not smoked in the room.

I am starting to get a little paranoid. I smoke and I know my clothes smell of it. I do have concerns that mousekeeper will smell it and think I did smoke in the room. Should I mention my concerns at check in? What would you do?

If you're really worried about it, you could take your clothes off before entering the room...

Seriously, the only thing I could think of is to not place your clothes on the bedspread. Keep them hanged up or in drawers. I am a nonsmoker but I don't think you walking into a room that the smell would linger that much for the next guest.

My DH is a smoker but won't smoke in the house since I'm a non-smoker and don't want my house to smell. However when he walks in, I feel like a cloud just follows him in but then the smell goes away. He smokes on the front porch and if the inner door is open (we have a screen door and an inner wooden door), the smoke travels but if it's closed, I don't smell anything. We are staying at POFQ at the end of September and I had originally requested Building 7 non-smoking room but I think I may request Building 4 with a non-smoking room close to DSA since Building 4 will be closer to food court and additionally closer to another DSA location. Anyone have any first hand knowledge of the DSA's at POFQ, specifically those locations? Any idea of the DSA locations near the pool? I don't want him to have to stand out in the open but if it can't be helped, that's just the way it is. TIA!!

I don't know if you could do this or not, but can you throw a bottle of Febreze in your checked luggage? Then you can spray the Bedspread and things that you think might have residual smoke smell. If it is just residual I think the Febreeze would take care of any smell. I don't smoke, but I do know people that do and they come to my house and don't leave a smell. Sorry that sounds rude but I think everyone knows what I mean. I just don't think it will be that big of a problem as long as you aren't in the room smoking. Just a suggestion, hope it can help someone.

This is an interesting post - can you please let us know where you got the info that these two resorts would have smoking rooms? We are all under the impression that no resorts have smoking rooms

Hi all. Question for fellow smokers with kiddos - are you going to take your kids with you to the DSAs or what? I like to do trips with each of my kids one-on-one, and would be very afraid to leave them in the room while I run smoke, even if I can see the door...on the other hand, I don't want to necessarily drag them with me every time I need to smoke. Besides the obvious answer of quitting altogether , what can I do?

I was wondering the same thing. I travel with my daughter and her family and when the grandkids get tired I always take them back to the hotel for a nap while I would enjoy a smoke & cup of coffee on the balcony. It was good for grandma's feet and good for my daughter & her husband to enjoy the parks kid-free for a few hours. Also wondering how single parents will handle going to DSA"s.

I was just wondering if anyone who's stayed at WDW this month has noticed if they were in an old smoking room. DH has bad allergies an asthma related to cigarette smoke and he'll notice right away and won't be able to sleep there...I know, talk about the boy in the bubble, but whatcha gonna do?!

We'll be there in Aug., but was wondering if anyone noticed so far. Thanks!

Does anyone have a map as to show where Disney has placed the "THE SMOKING AREA'S" for CBR. We will be there in September and I was just wondering where they are putting us. I was also wondering if I would be able to request being close to one of the DSA's?
Would that be considered preferred location and would they then charge me extra?
I like to enjoy a smoke & a drink after a long day in the parks.
I just don't want to have to drag the kids with me, if I am close enough to our room I won't have too.
