I have never made one with /fleece. You need a fabric that frays to get the effect.

So glad you finally decide to tackle a rag quilt. Please post pics when it is ready.

I have done them in many different sizes. My DS has made 3 of them with six 20" x 20" squares. I have made a few with squares anywhere between 8 and 12 inches.

Oh, did I say fleece? Well, maybe I bought the wrong stuff....maybe I was a little confused when I heard fleece. I guess it was supposed to be flannel material and batting :sad2: . Maybe I am just getting mixed up. It isn't a thick blanket like fleece. It is a thin snuggle fabric, like baby receiving blanket material. I guess it is a flannel. Maybe I am getting my words mixed up......I am not sure if it would fray....I feel sheepish now...sorry about that...well, I have it now so I guess it's worth a shot. What's the worst that can happen?..... :rotfl:

Also Haganfam5, if you plan on making the squares any bigger than Wendy's I would sew an X on each square.

Sounds like you bought flannel, and that is the perfect material for a rag quilt. :cool1:

WOW! Your quilt looks great! I love the colors! If I were you I would just go ahead and give it a few more snips in between the others. That would probably make it fray more. Now that you have those scissors you can snip away like crazy! :thumbsup2

Yes you are right! I just edited my post up there. I was just confused with the two materials names. I don't know why. I know the difference...guess I just had a brain fart!!:rotfl: I am glad I bought the right stuff! Thanks!

I think I will go with the 8 1/2 inch squares. I am not going to get to crazy with the first one. I usually try to get a practice run in first when I try new things. :goodvibes

Thanks for the tip!!! Should I snip it wet or wait till its dry?

I also noticed I have a few repairs to do - i guess I snipped through the threads????

The fabric was Christmas clearance at walmart for 50 cents/yard!! I thought it was more wintery than specifically Christmassy???? I used a flannel flat sheet that we dont use for in the middle - I didnt want to spend much on my first one - in case I mess up big time!!!!! lol!!!

Yeah, BTDT, with the snipped threads, gotta fix a couple on every one I do. Also, if I make a large quilt there is usually a block or part of a row that I forget to snip before washing.

Snip whenever it is easier to do. I usually do it with the quilt on my lap, so that would be better dry.

I like the snowmen. I think it is perfect for winter.

Jessica - Oh my gosh - that is totally awesome!!! you are so talented and Dallas will look sooooo cool in that!!! Did Dallas have a penguine birthday last year, or was that someone else, i was trying to remember...

Yes, that was Dallas! He LOVES penguins! He brought home this book from the library, about 40 pages with alot of words about the penguins as the San Francisco Zoo, we have read it now 3 nights in a row, the entire thing. He is just fascinated with them.

He knows SF is in CA so he wants to go there now. Why can't the Atlanta Zoo have penguins! :confused3 The little tiny ole Akron Zoo had the best display of them! The aquarium here has them but they aren't nearly as fun to watch as they are at zoos.

I love the rag quilt you made! I bought some fabric to make some but every time I ordered some was out of stock at Joann's, so I don't have enough to make a cute one. Really irks me too that they just send out the other, then tell you so I have yards and yards of stuff I can't do much with right now.

MinnieVanMom - You are so talented coming up with that dress all by yourself! That is not something I can do! I have never shirred before so can't give you any help or tips but I'll be trying it soon! I am interested to see how my creation will come out in a couple of weeks!

I am exhausted, but have done disney mom and dad (just finished) and an Elmo shirt and pair of jeans. Although I still gotta put the ruffle on the jeans. And even cooked dinner!

I might head in and make some quick animal mickey heads! No A Bug's Life for me this trip, but that will give me something totally cool to make for Disneyland! Not that we have a trip planned, but I like to think early, just sew last minute.

Your little guy inspired me!!!

I think I want to try one with my 6yo neice Elizabeth - How did you start sewing with your little guy?

I was thinking I could control the pedal and keep it slow and she could guide the material????????

Have you ever tried using bandanas? I wonder if you trimmed the edges if they would fray????

I think it is very wintery and not Christmassy! :thumbsup2 I really like it!

I think that will be my new motto!

Sea World Orlando has Peguins! You can even go behind the scenes and pet one.....

I bet Dallas would love that!

Also, here is a little Vday outfit I made for DD4. I did not get any pics of her in it today and unfortunately she puked all over her outfit this afternoon. We had just gotten to ballet and she got really sick. :( She was unbelievable bummed and asked me if she could wear it again soon. I think I can :laundy: it and we will be all good!:thumbsup2

I did a triple layer skirt with an appliqued tee. I was so frustrated with my applique last night I took my machine in again. The repair guy said there was a lot of little things wrong. Last week they told me to use better thread. I am skeptical that everything is fine. I have a pretty intricate Jaq and Gus I am starting tonight so we will see.

CINDEE!

How do we pet the penguins? I assume it is some sort of tour you can take. I talked about going to Sea World this trip. Lin doesn't like it much but I LOVE it and of course Dallas LOVES the penguins and the kids area! Silly men just don't get how cool it is! Hmm, maybe someone could hook us up or just steal a penguin! LOL! That would make Dallas super duper happy!

BUT if we do I have to make new shirts! No trip to Sea World can be complete without cute matching shirts!

I'll have check out a trip to Memphis. Not sure how far it is from here, I know it is not that close, but not extremely far, I think more like going to disney from here. Oh, Lin doesn't like zoos either. Takes alot of convincing to get him to go to a zoo. I have never been to Atlanta's and when I took Dallas he wasn't with us. I think he agreed to Sea World last time because it has been so long since his last trip and he forgot it was mainly animals.

BUT, what I really sat down to ask whas how the heck do you get jibbitz in kids crocs! I got size 12/13 so it isn't like they are that small but I cannot for the life of me get one in! Dallas has always had Mickey crocs (which of course the fall right out of, even with their little disc now).

Oops! Aimee, I forgot to quote yours, or well comment! I was too involved in myself! That is so cute! Your applique looks great! I am interested to see Jaq and Gus. I has a plan to do them but I think the plan is off!

Was it Sophee that got sick on it? I hope she is feeling okay. I know you'll wash it right up and wouldn't doubt if she wears it tomorrow. Did you find the other ballet slipper?

I really love this. My daughter would flip for it.

I found this in my old computer as a bookmark. It is for Disney Valentines that can be printed on card stock.

I like the ruffle. Did you create the pattern yourself? I love that shirt and want to make one for my DD. I would love to have instructions or know where to buy it from. Thanks!!

So Cute!

We did the tour years ago... before kids and got to pet the penguins :)
Lots of fun.
I think the process has changed but I think you will find a "tour" link on the Sea World website with more info.

And we want to see your matching shirts when you get them done ;)
