These are all adorable!!
We went to the mall (still dressed as Fawn) and she "flew" all over and had a ball. We happened into JcPenny and they had the Tinkerbell Clickables Jewelry box normally 89.99 for 4.97. I had just told her I was not buying the box (I don't have a 90.00 jewelry box:sad2: ), but for 4.97 SURE!!!! But then I noticed a sign it was half off the 4.97!!!!! I got it for 2.48! We also got the video game and bracelet. So I have one very happy fairy!!!!

I also went to Gymboree and bought 7 things (with diamonds-gotta have sparkle!) for 35.00!!!!!!!

Sounds like you got some great deals Cindee!

You won't miss me if you see me because I will have this bag on.

Make sure to say hi :wave2: to me if you see me. If you want to know what I look like follow the link to my pretrip report in my signature.
I love that!

Also, I am still unsure about sergers...HELP! Anyone like a cheap one?
I have a Singer from Walmart, I really like it. I paid $50 for it, but I think it's usually around $179.

Any new BIG Gives coming up?

There will be a new one up around Feb. 16th, after everyone gets back from the Dismeet! :thumbsup2

Totally OT here, but Caleb lost BOTH of his top front teeth on Sunday. He needs to STOP GROWING UP ALREADY! I need to download the pics, but I'll post some of my newly toothless boy soon.

Aww, I bet he looks adorable!!! Lydia has one front tooth that is very wiggly!
LOL! I rewarded her well for braving the cold for a few pictures!! I warned her it was cold - when she walked outside she said, "Oh, it's not cold!" It wasn't windy (Thank goodness!) but it was barely 25 out. Matthew wanted to come outside too!! ;) I went out in a tee too and she was right it wasn't that bad. Granted I wouldn't want to stay out for more than a few minutes like that.

Ok! As long as she wasn't too cold! She is a very good model, acting like she is in Florida in this cold Michigan weather!!!

I know someone replied to your question, but I just wanted to say that I love piping. I put it on just about everything I sew. You can get the cording in different sizes. I use some that is really tiny. I think it might be 1/16 of an inch. It is smaller than the one you get at Hancocks and Joanns. I get it from an heirloom shop. It is really cheap too. It's 10 cents a yard.
I think it really adds alot to collars. It is kind of difficult to get used to sewing it in. Some people use a pintuck foot. I use a zipper foot because I find it is easier to see. You make the piping by cutting bias strips, folding it in half, and then sandwiching the cording in the fold of the fabric. You can then sew it down to keep it in place. Don't sew right close to the piping but give yourself a little room to get another row of stitching in. Then you put your collar pieces right sides together with the bias piping in between the two pieces. You put the bias in the direction to where when you flip the collar out it will be sticking out from the collar. You want to sew it as close to the cording as you can without hitting the cording. Zipper foot works great for that. You can also buy mini piping and piping in various colors. I don't like that alot because the colors seem to fade alot, and I like to use the smaller cording. Pre-made piping is great for quick projects though.
Sorry I went on for so long. I'm just a piping/cording fanatic. I use whip stitch piping alot lately too which is a pre-made piping that you can get cut by the yard at alot of heirloom shops.
Here is a link to how to make your own piping.
http://sewing.about.com/od/techniques/ss/cordingpiping.htm
And yes.. you can make the collar without the piping of course! It is a little tricky going around the curves. Just go slow if you decide to give it a try.
;)
Oh, and gingham piping is my favorite!!

Thanks for the directions!
Yes, it is almost 4am but DS had an accident and came in all wet. Poor guy he has done super for almost 2 weeks. Nitetime is so hard but he is learning.

I finished his TF printed shirt today with a whole lot of help from Crystal. I got very stuck on the collar. I am old school and call it under and upper collar. It is now called collar and facing. The bowling shirt is much easier but I am trying to learn how to understand the instuctions in a commercial pattern so I can make dresses for myself.

.

Great job April!

Ok here is my disastrous applique! I am going slow I actually even set my machine for the slow mode so I am not tempted to go fast and it is still awful! UGH! Any extra tip any one can give especially around corners?
I may have to get busy learning to digitize so I can make the pictures I want! UGH!!!!!!!!
th_IMG_0773.jpg

Can you tell I am not happy with it! The pants are of course Carla's easy Fit! I like how they came out!

Marlo, that is a lot of curves! I think it looks really good, you are too hard on yourself!!! Heather says she does better when she goes faster, you might want to try that.

Good morning all! I have been working on Wall e shirts all morning long..:upsidedow If I see another shirt I think I am going to scream.
Here is a question for you guys, What kind of machine do you have? And what are the price ranges of them? :confused3

I have a Viking that my cousin is letting me use on indefinite loan and a Brother Disney embroidery machine. I love "my" Viking!

Hey...just another update on my Granny...she was doing pretty good last night...full use of both arms, maybe a little weakness still in her left, but still she was using it. She is still talking in 3-4 words at a time, but she is trying and is of course smiling the entire time! The speech therapist said this morning that she was able to swallow, which is good. They said it was considered like a mini stroke, so I think, not sure, that she should recover good. Right now, it's just one day at a time.

thanks again for all the prayers....I must sleep now...LONG night!

That is very good news!!

One more I forgot to add...What do you think?? My DD wanted a set with Kitties...I love this fabric! It's so funky!!

I love it!! That is so cute!

I am so happy, that is great news. We will continue to pray for her recovery.

It is funky and fun! Love the outfits, you are very talented.

Now, back out into the snow. I am plowing the drive for the second time. The school bus needs to come in to drop of DS and it has to be cleared...again. I have been up since 4am and I am starting to feel tired.

CINDEE: I don't know if you burned your iron on but I would like to let you know that I am completely iron on inept and am dreading making my shirt for the meet up.
BUT I am looking forwar to seeing you and morgan again. I promise little that we would get together soon!
...t.

OH and for the rest of you I DID find fabric for a Vday outfit for Lily. It is NOT what I was looking for and was not acutally a Vday fabric but I found it in the clearance section. It did change my plans totally for her outfit, but i think now she will get more wear out of it anyway.
You know, I found the fabric in the "Clearance" section....it was normally 6.99 a yd. and on clearance for $4. Now I'm happy to get 2 yds of fabric for $8 instead of just 1 BUT really, is that "Clearance"??????? I am usually psyched about getting stuff cheaper but I just felt like meh about it.:confused3

...t.

I had the same problem finding one! Every store the people looked at me like I had 2 heads when I asked for one too! So my mm just ordered one from hancock and she ordered one for herself for pressing clothes but she didn't like it so I HAD 2 until a few days ago when I returned the unopened one! UGH! When I returned it the lady at hancocks had no clue what it was! UGH If i would have known I would have sent it to you! Sorry!!!!!
My hubby found me one!!! I don't really know how, but he did. He is bringing it home! :cool1:

Easy Fit Pants made into shorts- yup, looks totally odd when you are sewing. Heres a pic of mine on my little one- wearing about size 12/18 months then.
As you can see, i added a cuff, but you could go shorter.

Love the short sets! I'm totally going to have to make a set like that!!!

Ok here is my disastrous applique! I am going slow I actually even set my machine for the slow mode so I am not tempted to go fast and it is still awful! UGH! Any extra tip any one can give especially around corners?

I am not sure why Kyle can't just pose nicely he has to ham it up and make faces every time! :confused3
th_IMG_0771.jpg
I just realized I forgot to cut a string off. Oh well.

Can you tell I am not happy with it! The pants are of course Carla's easy Fit! I like how they came out!
I think it looks great.. especially if it is your first try. I don't think I will post my first try pictures.

Please feel free to direct me if this has already been asked and answered.

I have been approved a purchase of a new machine. So, I am researching to try and get the best bang for my buck. My question is about the software for embroidery. What am I going to need for that? I would like to present my DH with a approx cost estimate that includes all of the extras I need to actually use my machine.

I would like to be able to digitize a logo or a picture. What am I going to need for that? Any accessories that are must haves?? I am thinking about the Brother Innovis 900d, but will look at other machines when I go into the store.

TIA!
What size hoop does the Innovis have? I have a 5 by 7, and am already looking to upgrade. 5 by 7 is great, but when you want to do alot of characters you have to do things pretty small. I have Embird for digitizing. It is cheaper than alot of the other programs. You need Embird basic and Embird Studio to digitize with it. Sometimes they'll give you a deal on PE Design in the older versions though. I have 6 or 7, and I use my Embird more. You can do all the same things on PE Design though. It just has a harder learning curve. There are great tutorials online for both programs. I bought my Embird at www.secretsof.com because they had the best price. The tutorials there are great too. PM me if you have any more questions that you think I can help with!

Really cute!!!
Hello my name is Kristie and I am a fabric addict!

I ran over to Hancock's at lunch today to get cord to make the piping in my outfit. $58 later I walked out of Hancock's with cord, 4 new fabrics, new needles for my machine and some hand needles too (I seem to have lost all hand needles except really big ones and It was very hard to sew a button with a super large needle). The bad thing is I don't have a plan for any of the fabric right now, I just really liked it. Is there a fabric lovers annoymous I could join? (And I know most of you can understand my just wanting the fabric. I'll figure out something to do with it eventually thought process)
I have done that SOOOO many times....

Hello, my name is Kira, and I am a fabric addict!!!

I think we need to make some t-shirts with this saying! :lmao:

Yes there is a "support group" for fabric lovers. It is call the Disboutique board! LOL

If I only bought fabric that I KNEW what I was going to do with it, I would not have any fabric. I am always finding fabric I NEED, but have no clue what to do with lol.

Grrr...my cricut is making me mad. I was reading on a link that you could use it to cut fabric out (Which is great b/c I have 20 Wall e shirts to make by March) anyway the dumb thing wont work...
I swear that machine gives me more problems than what it is worth :sad2:

That is absolutely adorable! I love how versatile it is! You should have let Matthew come outside because I love to see pictures of him!

TESSA!!!!!! I LOVE YOUR HAT SCARF!!! WAYYYYYY TOTALLY COOL!!!!!!!

:rotfl2: :rotfl: The Mr. Potato head cracked me up!!!

I just love your little Zoey!!

Any new BIG Gives coming up?
Since most of the administrators (5 of us) are going to be at WDW within the next few weeks, we're waiting until we get back to post the next one.

Could someone post me the link to the fabric swap? All I can find are the scrapbooking ones.
http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2048402
I think you already found it, but here it is!

Oh, HEATHER!!! I just LOVE these!! Sooo soo cute!! I think the black looks great!!! Sooo cute! You guys are going to be so cute!!! Are you guys doing the Photopass?

I love that Pluto shirt!!!

Tessa, I think you look adorable in your hat and scarf, I just love it! You did a fantastic job, and you look just like the girl on the package!!!!
Thank you, my dear sister!! Yep, we're doing photopass! But, mom has already said that she doesn't want to stop all the time for pictures. :confused3

Tessa will love all those smilies!!

Thank you Teresa :) I found the links :cool1:
I LOVE your little chicky and the fat little panda bear!!

I'm feeling well THANK YOU for asking. I have been feeling baby flutters all the time the last few days, I'm so tickled!!!
That is so exciting, T!!

Can you guys tell me where you get your teflon pressing sheets?
(
I got mine at JoAnn. It was over by the heat 'n bond and the sulky stabilizer.

I love the look on her face too. I haven't seen that look since Heather made her dress. I cried when I took that picture.
:cloud9:
I went back and saw the skirt you made Madilynn. It is WONDERFUL!!!! GREAT job!!!

Jacob says he likes the dumbo outfits and, "how did Heather get their names on there in Disney language?" He is most impressed!
Doesn't he know that I speak and write Disney fluently?

What a couple of cuties!!! The sweatshirts turned out great! You made good use of brown fleece! I hope Noah is feeling better today.

Dumbo outfits are so cute too!!! How do you make the skirt more than 1 layer like that ? is it really just layers different lengths???? Great Job!! you are so lovin your embroidery machine, arent you?????:thumbsup2
The skirt is 2 layers. I made 2 seperate skirts and sewed them onto the bodice one at a time (the black one first and then the lt. blue layer). The underskirt has a double ruffle on it. The instructions for that are in CarlaC's stripwork jumper pattern.

TESSA - I just love your hat and scarf! You look so cute in them and you did a fabulous job making them!!!!
I went back and looked at your Feliz. Yet another PERFECT outfit by Glorib!! I love everything you make!

Tessa is going to be so excited to see all of these messages for her!

They're ALL adorable! But, these are my 2 favorites! So cute!

Wow, that looks GREAT!! He is such a cutie, too!

I think it looks fine! My tip is to try going fast around the corners. Mine always turn out smoother that way.

Yes I used tear away non iron on though because my mom brought the wrong one and I haven't gotten the iron on kind yet.
You HAVE to use the iron-on to stabilize the fabric! It makes it so the fabric won't stretch in every direction when you're sewing on it. So, don't give up until you try the iron-on!

Please feel free to direct me if this has already been asked and answered.

I have Embird for digitizing. It cost around $300. I think it was really hard to learn to use (unless you buy an expensive tutorial to learn how to use it). But, I'm finally starting to figure it out.

This one is really cute! I just showed Tessa and she LOVES it!

I swear that machine gives me more problems than what it is worth :sad2:

I read on the cricut message boards that you should a) wash the fabric first and b) use heat n bond.

I used some other brand and it did NOT work. However, I have seen a lot of people on the boards cut fabric. I bought the heat and bond, but haven't tried it yet. Have you tried multi cut or higher pressure? I've found it's a lot of trial and error.

I finally have some pictures of the things I made my daughter. Of course I didn't have a cooperative model so it is just the clothes. After the first 3 dresses (that I previously posted) I made the Wall-E outfit. Well, Ainsley declared that she didn't want any shorts/pants, just dresses! So the rest are dresses. Of course she also said she didn't want the Little Einsteins dress, just princesses. Too bad. Her little brother loves Little Einsteins and we are scheduled to have lunch with June and Leo. She will wear the dress! Anyway, here are the pictures. I am only so-so on the Wall-E one but I like the other three.

Tinkerbell
I showed the skirt before but finished a shirt to go with it. I cut apart a shirt I got on clearance at the Disney store. It was a size too small and so I just used the picture on the front.

The aformentioned Little Einsteins dress. Jessica, here is my appliqued Rocket. Thanks again for the positive encouragement.
IMG_0187.jpg

Minnie Dress
When I was putting the skirt portion together she said, "ooo, that's pretty, is that for me?".
IMG_0186.jpg

Another Minnie outfit. She wants a bow on Minnie's head. Suggestions? Should I pin a ribbon bow to it or applique one on? If I applique it, what color do you think?
IMG_0181.jpg

They are pretty much all the same jumper but I like the style so that if it is cold I can just put a long sleeve shirt under it. I have one more outfit planned for her but I started the boys' tees yesterday. I got 4 tees done for my oldest but haven't taken pics yet. Three are mickey heads in different fabrics and one is Buzz Lightyear.

I am a very newbie clothes sewer (I have been making quilts on and off for years) and I so appreciate all of the encouragement you all give on this board.

Thanks!

I realized that I never posted these over here...no where near as nice as the creations on here lately but hey...I sewed for a change! ;)

Jham taught me how to make pillowcase dresses/tops. Here are the directions she gave me:

Take the 44" width of the fabric (no matter what size dress/top), cut what length you want minus about 4" for the contrasting fabric on the bottom (if you are using contrasting fabric) and plus about 3 1/4" for the casing on the top. Cut the contrasting fabric 8 1/2" then fold it over wrong sides together and then stitch it onto the bottom of the main fabric and topstitch. Then sew the side seam. Fold over the casing (iron it down), stitch about 1" from the fold and then stitch another row for the elastic casing. (Use 3/4 inch non roll elastic) The straps are 4 pieces of ribbon 18" long. The buttons are purely decoration.

Thanks so much for posting these instructions, I am off to Joanns to find some V-day fabric to make DD a top. My sewing skills are still pretty limited and this looks nice and easy, right up my alley !!:thumbsup2

:rotfl: Me too! The cutting table ladies are always asking what I'm making. I usually just say that I don't know, but that I NEEDED the fabric! Most understand, a few have given me some odd looks. If you work in a fabric store, you should be required to know that sometimes people just buy fabric because it's pretty! Geez.

They're all super cute! The Tinkerbell one is my favorite, though! Or maybe the Wall-E one? They're all so cute! If it were me (mostly because I'm lazy, lol), on the last Minnie one, I would make a bow to pin on. Maybe black with white polka dots? I think it would be cute, plus then it would have a little 3D effect, which would be cool. Great job on all the outfits!

So for all our Gymboree shoppers..... Rumors on the message boards... Lots will be marked down to $1.99 on Friday!!!

I should join too!!! I usually spent about 200.00+ a month in fabric that I just have no idea what I needed for!! The funny thing is when I am working on a project usually I have to order more because is not in my pile ...for the month of February my goal is NOT TO BUY ANY FABRIC!!!

Grrr...my cricut is making me mad. I was reading on a link that you could use it to cut fabric out (Which is great b/c I have 20 Wall e shirts to make by March) anyway the dumb thing wont work...
I swear that machine gives me more problems than what it is worth :sad2:

I did not have any trouble cutting fabric in the cricut, I cut fabric to 12" by 12" size and use heat and bond lite, the blade I set it to 6 and the pressure to high , low speed, My fabrics are usually pre-washed but for a handbag that I am working on I did not pre-wash the fabric and it worked the same..

Lost my other quotes, but ladies (and gents) I just love all the outfits posted, it really makes me sad that I do not have a little girl to sew for...

I am working in some outfits for Noah's give and I thought of doing a "Donald Duck" outfit for little Noah ( I am also doing some t shirts and jeans with appliques)
this is what I am working on

DD outfit has a red bow in the shirt, do you guys think that I should do the bow or just a knot in the front... I am not sure, also maybe I shouldn't do the side pockets in the pants... again I need advise...

Ok, I used Wonder Under stuff, Ironed it onto the fabric, took the white paper off and stuck it on the cricut mat. I used speed 3, pressure 4, and blade depth 5 and it didn't work (It really moved the fabric around a lot and got messed up)

I showed the skirt before but finished a shirt to go with it. I cut apart a shirt I got on clearance at the Disney store. It was a size too small and so I just used the picture on the front.

When I was putting the skirt portion together she said, "ooo, that's pretty, is that for me?".

Another Minnie outfit. She wants a bow on Minnie's head. Suggestions? Should I pin a ribbon bow to it or applique one on? If I applique it, what color do you think?

They are pretty much all the same jumper but I like the style so that if it is cold I can just put a long sleeve shirt under it. I have one more outfit planned for her but I started the boys' tees yesterday. I got 4 tees done for my oldest but haven't taken pics yet. Three are mickey heads in different fabrics and one is Buzz Lightyear.

I am a very newbie clothes sewer (I have been making quilts on and off for years) and I so appreciate all of the encouragement you all give on this board.

Thanks!

OMG I love the outfits!!! :)

Ok maybe I should go out and buy some heat and bond lite, I just figured the wonder under would work too :( Also are you leaving the paper on the back of the heat and bond? or are you tearing it off before you put it on the mat?

Justcallmehappy:

I always leave the paper backing on ( place it the mat without removing the paper), maybe you should try again and leave the paper on that might just work ,but if that do not work maybe heat and bond will work better... but in the informercial they say any brand should work...HTH

I did try that, but the mat doesn't hold it down very well (so I used some tape...shhh..don't tell) anyway that didn't work either.
I am off to find some heat and bond

Can you use the Brother Disney cartridges on that? A friend wanted to get that one, but was told she couldn't use disney cartridges.

I have the Brother SE270D, which was $300 at Wal Mart, I think. I don't think they have it anymore.
The Disney cartridges will not go in my machine. That is what I have read so far. I was told that I need to have a machine that has a D in the model number. The SE270D is out of production (that's what I was told anyways).

Can you buy them like at Joann's? Or do you have to order them online?
I got mine at Wal-Mart.

That is wonderful to hear. Hopefully she will be home soon.:cheer2:

So I finished the twirl skirt and it turned out really cute. Only problem, DD2 won't wear it, says "too scary." Little rat, she chose the fabric! She and DD9 wanted pirate skirts to wear during the day on pirate day on our cruise. They'll have more piratey costumes for the actual pirate dinner/celebratoin. DD9 put the skirt on and loves it but needs to wear leggings under it. Still cute. I'm working on the peasant shirt now and charging my camera so I can take pics. pirate:
I'm sorry I had to laugh at your DD being scared of the skirt.:lmao: I don't mean to laugh, it just reminds of Jenna telling me how she would like an outfit to be done and then refusing to wear it when it is done.

You are as bad as me. I can't get out of a fabric store for less than $60.:rotfl:

I like it like that. The bow will be cute on the girl's and the knot on the boys would be cute. I can't wait to see it when it is done.:thumbsup2

Maybe is just the mat, I had to buy new ones because mine lost the "stick"
after I used them few times, but I think someone posted about washing the mats to get them sticky again, but I have not tried that yet ,

Appiqued stuff takes LOTS & LOTS of practice!! I tried and tried and tried. :lmao: I found it was easier to learn how to use my embroidery machine than do it by hand. I had no problems cutting it out, getting it on the fabric, etc, just going around the designs.

I think its great for your first attempt! It just takes so much practice! If you have an embroidery machine, use it! :rotfl2:

Sue
That is what I am thinking! I just may not be cut out for applique!
This isn't my 1st attampt:rotfl: It is my 2nd but still!
One more I forgot to add...What do you think?? My DD wanted a set with Kitties...I love this fabric! It's so funky!!

Hello my name is Kristie and I am a fabric addict!

Hi Kristie, My name is april, I am an addict too!:goodvibes
I am with ya! HI my name is Marlo I am a fabric addict too! We need to start a new support group! FAA! Fabric addict anonymous!

My hubby found me one!!! I don't really know how, but he did. He is bringing it home! :cool1:

I think it looks great.. especially if it is your first try. I don't think I will post my first try pictures.

Hello, my name is Kira, and I am a fabric addict!!!
YEAH what a good hubby picking it up for you!!!!!

It isn't my 1st one:sad1:
Hence I need to learn the digitizing! :rotfl: I got my hand on a copy of pe 7 I just need to see if DH can show me how to use it on the windows part of our mac...

My innovis only has a 4x4 hoop I couldn't afford a larger hoop:confused3

I am glad that your grandma is doing better!!:grouphug: I will continue to pray for her, that she recovers fast and go home soonpixiedust:

I should join too!!! I usually spent about 200.00+ a month in fabric that I just have no idea what I needed for!! The funny thing is when I am working on a project usually I have to order more because is not in my pile ...for the month of February my goal is NOT TO BUY ANY FABRIC!!!
