I just hate that bridge you have to cross! I would close my eyes when going over, but I am usually the driver! Good luck! I have to go to Wallyworld....I feel I am spending too much time there lately.

I only cross it if I am going north...so everytime I go to my parents! And I promise you...EVERYTIME i am coming back from there it is raining...trust me...I have SEVERAL alternate routes to take these days. The one going north is not so bad...it's the one heading south that scares me...the thing is just banked wrong in that curve and that bump! UGH! I hate it!

Oh...I live in Wallyworld...sorry to say!

Sad news to share...
My grammies closest sister past away today. She would have been 89 next month. She has been in a nursing home for many years and had been failing these last few days. I am glad my grammy got to go spend time with her yesterday.

They have asked me, my sister and another female cousin to be among the pallbearers. She is going to be buried near her husbands. It is a 250 mile trek up north for the funeral. Dh wants to go as a family. So we will have several hours in the car on thursday evening and then again on friday. But I really couldn't say no. All three of us have rearranged everything so we could be there for our cousin (who is a few weeks younger then my sister) as she goes through this mourning time.

Reality is hitting that my grammy will not be here forever. She is in great health so I am hoping to have her around for many years to come!

I was planning to work on the bowling shirt but I just can't get into it. I feel drained.

Thanks for listening.

I am so sorry! :grouphug:

What a great idea! I should make something like that for Kirsten..she has so many stuffed animals! Kirsten has that same pink Littlest Pet Shop cat.. she wanted it so badly, and I looked everywhere but they didn't have any, and I finally found it on Amazon.

That is very cute!

I wouldn't have known it was suppose to be anyone, if you weren't asking....LOL..j/k!!

It's Princess Aurora/Sleeping Beauty....Kirsten's favorite princess!!!!

Ok I just have to share.

I know some of you have been around this board for awhile and know a little about my DD Morgan.

I was told (by "teachers") that she is "not capable of independant or creative thought".

Well she is currently fluttering around my house dressed as Fawn (she dressed herself a tee and orange leggings and fawn colored tutu). She found a hair tie in her room that looks like the one Fawn wears and she asked for a ponytail like Fawn. Then she brought me the shimmer nights (Thank you TeresaJoy :grouphug: ) and asked me to spray it on her arms-because Fawn glitters (And she is right I went back and looked at the pictures from our Meet and greet and she does glitter!). She asked for "berries and fluff" for breakfast which she is eating sitting on a rock (footstool). It seems I am "Fairy Mary". She is just too cute! And I am so proud of all the progress she is making.

I think that is very creative!! I wouldn't listen to those "teachers"!

I am so excited for May. I whipped up 2.5 outfits already and I only made the reservations to go last week. My OCD is kicking in.

I cased this from ebay (I saw it last year sometime and loved it). I just need to ruffle the yellow strips and attach to the pants. I want to wait until closer to the trip in case someone has a growth spurt.
th_May2009003.jpg

Great job Stacy!!! I just love that Minnie one!
OMG! those are amazing - the world showcase outfit took my breath away! We did the VISA cardholder photo's last year and I had the kids wear the shirts you made, then we did some char. M&G's Thank you so much!

Your daughter's look so cute!
We're back from our whirlwind weekend of racing. Jaz took 5th place!
She's the one in blue.

Wow!!!! Way to go Jazmine!!!!! :cheer2:

BRAG TIME!!!!!!

Katie placed 3rd in the school science fair and now she will compete in the district in one month! She is so excited and I am VERY proud of her

Okay...brag over...back to your sewing...and back to my cleaning

YEAH KATIE!!! Ok, so, please, tell us!!! Which one popped best!

I got some material this weekend (I have not taken a pattern yet) for a "Belle" Dress for Megan for our trip to DL in May. Belle is her favorite princess.

So here is what I am thinking, let me know if you think this will work or not. I am not looking to make it an exact replica of Belle, more of the illusion of Belle. The material I have is all cotton. I have a cotton yellow/gold with large Roses on it (all in Gold Tones) and then a solid yellow/gold that matches the roses. For the top, I was thinking of doing a simplysweet jumper top with ruffled elastic straps. Then I was thinking of attaching a twirl scallopini skirt instead of the regular skirt to it. I figured I could gather around the waist instead of putting in the casing for the elastic. I was thinking I could finish off the whole thing with a sash around the waist. I was thinking I would do the straps, sash and the underlayer of the skirt in the solid gold and the bodice and top layer of the skirt in the rose patterned gold material. I was thinking of doing a single red rose applique on the bodice.

Is it sad that I started this post at 10am this morning. It is now 4:10pm and I am finally getting around to posting it. I've been in meetings since 10am today. And I wonder why I never get any work done.

I like your picture!!! I think the dress will be beautiful!

I finally got up the nerve to cut my fabric. It was so hard to decide what to do. I wanted dots and I wanted it bright but I didn't want too bright.

So here is what I finally had when I started.

Madilynn wanted to make sure you saw the back LOL

I love it!!!! Madilyn is so adorable!!!! And great deal on the petti!
2. There is a new that will go into effect 2/10/09. Basically it is making it illegal for anyone to sell items intended for children 12 and under without expensive lead testing first. There are very strict rules, fines etc . . . Many many many mother owned and woman owned small business are in jeopardy due to these laws. There are many wonderful posters on this thread that will be greatly affected by these laws. Many designers that started making clothes for fun/hobby and now have turned their talent into family needed income. Anyway, there is group of ladies trying to take a stand. Here is a little info on the group.

http://www.boutiquecafe.com/home/tag/cpsia/

Thought everyone should know. I am really disappointed because I know of so many great designers that will be affected by this. Not only have they made cute stuff for my kids but . . . they are my friends.

Thanks for bringing this up Amy! They need to CLARIFY this law, in writing! I really love this section:
"The new safety law does not require resellers to test children’s products in inventory for compliance with the lead limit before they are sold. However, resellers cannot sell children’s products that exceed the lead limit and therefore should avoid products that are likely to have lead content, unless they have testing or other information to indicate the products being sold have less than the new limit. Those resellers that do sell products in violation of the new limits could face civil and/or criminal penalties. "

So resellers don't have to TEST the products for lead, BUT if they accidentally sell them, they can be arrested or fined??!!!??

You can also go to Etsy.com and there is some great information on there as well.

Here are some other helpful links to the "Consumer Product Safety Commision".

It appears that they are trying to make ammendments, but as it is currently written those of us that make custom clothing OOAK and sell in any fashion, will no longer be able to do so after February (can't remember the exact date) without incurring a huge cost in testing for each and every piece of material, thread, ect. that goes into the clothing.
Thanks for the links.

Thanks For the Pirate Mickey Linette!!!

I was hoping that fringe would look like snowballs!!!

so, does anyone think we are going to get snow/ice here in philly??? I really want some snow!!!!

I think i have bill convinced to take us to niagara falls the last weekend in Feb - has anyone been there???

Wendy, I loved that dress!!! I have that material and wanted to make a skirt with the little ball fringe too! Yes, little snowballs!

I went to Niagara falls 20+ years ago, so I don't think I'd be any help! Corey went a few years ago with my Mom, Dad and Grandma. They had so much fun!

Now you've made me cry. I feel so very BLESSED to have been part of the Big Give. My kids eyes light up every time they get to wear one of their special things now.

It's the best, favorite and most memorable souveniers they have. They constantly tell others about the "special friends" that sewed for them.

Having a special needs child, it is often that others tease or ridicule. He is often left out. The gifts we received from the Big Give goes so much further than the amazing clothes, books, crayon rollups, etc that we received.

A forever footprint on our hearts

Oh Deanna, you went and made me cry!!! It is so wonderful to hear how much the Gives mean to the families. :grouphug:

Just lurking

....awesome, awesome stuff posted!!! I had to drive just to catch up!!!! Did you all know we are halfway to the end of this thread already....didn't we just start this one....like a week or so ago???

th_P1030432.jpg

Oh, Anna, I'm so sorry. :grouphug: I think it's wonderful that you are all making the effort to be there for each other. I can just tell that you have a wonderful family.
I was inspired to make Grace a dress from the Tinkerbell pillowcase from Kmart. I saw the outfits some of you made using them so I decided to try. I also bought a little mermaid pillowcase. I haven't done anything with that one yet. When I finished the tinkerbell top it was too short. I attached the bottom green piece with ric rac to add length.

That is so cute!!!

Here is my last Valentine's Day outfit for the year. I had ordered some pettis for spring/Easter, and they arrived earlier than expected. Also, since it looks as though I may not be able to use them after Feb 10 (thanks to the new legislation), I wanted to make something with them real quick. I have always loves the look of a petti with an embellished t-shirt.

th_pettilove8-1.jpg
The fluff is not as neon as it seems to be in the last pic, and I know better than to apologize for my dd's tangled hair.

I love it! I have a thing for pettis!
The feb 10th thing would not affect what you can dress your kids in and won't affect people making clothes that is "on of a kind" - so that would include boutiquer's, since everything made by hand is "one of a kind" - PLUS the fabrics and such will likely be coming from a store that has acceptable items I submitted this story to snopes and here is the article they wrote:

http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/pending/cpsia.asp
It looks like that article is talking about used clothing though. And, even that is vague (see my above comment)

I am not sure if selling custom sized boutique clothing and thrift stores fall under the same category. Most listings on ebay/etsy are custom. The clothing is made to fit. There seems to be some gray areas and hopefully the boutique world can get through this.

It just really upsets me to think about all the ladies who depend on this income. Up until last year I had a small business of my own. We depended on it as part of our families income. My extra income got us through some harder times!

It upsets me too! I watched one video with a CPSIA expert on it, and she admitted that it would probably put the small businesses out of business, but overall, they make up a small portion of the market, so it doesn't matter! :sad2: I read somewhere that they wanted to exclude garments made totally out of cotton. Which, sounds good, until you think about it. That garment would have to use 100% cotton thread, no zippers, no ribbons, no buttons, no hook and eyes.....

Ok I just have to share.

OHHH! That makes me SOOOOO ANGRY!!! Stupid teachers!! First of all, did they take into account that she hasn't been speaking English all that long???? AND I've MET Morgan, how anyone who has known her more than a minute could think she was ""not capable of independant or creative thought".
is BEYOND me!!! Bunch of dumb dumbs!

I just LOVE your description of Morgan's outfit!!! That's my girl!!!! :cheer2:

beautiful! I just love Petti's! Ok so we all do!

Thanks!

I agree!

It is Pretty princess Arminda of course!!!!!!! princess: princess:
How is she feeling?
Oh, you are a cheater!!!!
I don't know why she looks grumpy in that one picture, she was actually having a good time trying that on!

Thankfully, Arminda hasn't been sick, it's Lyddy. She is still home today with a fever! I thought she was all better yesterday, then last night her fever went back up (only to 100, so I wasn't tooo worried) and this morning it's staying right around that. Her teacher called me a little while ago to see how she was doing (I just love her teacher!) and to tell me that one of the kids had gone to the doctor and they had the flu. So, it's basically a wait it out kind of thing. On Friday, there were 15 kids from her class that were sick. Today, it's down to 4. And, I bet there should have been even more on Friday and today! I know a lot of parents send kids to school, sick or not.

Teresa- I'm gonna guess Aurora

DING DING DING!!!!!

Katie's fav...Slepping Beauty! Love it!

YEAH!!!

It is obviously Sleeping Beauty...otherwise known as Aurora.
!
I'm so glad you guys are getting it!!! Corey knew right away, but Arminda thought it was Cinderella. Which, I guess it could be with the addition of a bow!
I wouldn't have known it was suppose to be anyone, if you weren't asking....LOL..j/k!!

It's Princess Aurora/Sleeping Beauty....Kirsten's favorite princess!!!!!

JENNY!!! :snooty: You are a stinker!

Yes, it's Aurora!!! I hope Megan likes it!

Just wanted to notate...Here on the West Coast our Walmart T's are still $3.50. Still not bad!! But not a $1...I am so jealous!!

I know, I went to another Wal-mart today with 15 miles of the other and they were still $3.50 there! I don't understand. You would think they would all be the same price? :confused3

Hey guys! I haven't been around but I have been thinking of all of you. I have NOT been sewing. Just busy busy busy learning to be a SAHM...boy are the dishes NEVER actually done? But finally I think I have decluttered my home to the extent that I may actually have time to sit down and sew something. I have tons of summery fabrics from last year that never got used and plan on making Little a whole slew of round necked dresses and pillowcase dresses for the FL. heat. It's just so nice to have something light and breezy to just throw on. I am also about to enter the world of cloth diapers....which I have been told is CRAZY. I am sewing dipes for the new little as well as a girlfriend who is due the day before me, so I'm sure to be a busy mama. I havent' gone backwards b/c I could never catch up but I
LOVE the outfit snubie made at the top of teresa's post. ADORABLE!!

I hope yo all have been well and look forward to seeing everyone who is going to the Feb. meet.

Oh it was Lydia! Sorry! Hopefully it will pass. Kyle is doing better too except now his ears keep getting clogged so he freaks he isn't used to the ear thing. I think it means it is breaking up!

And it isn't cheating it is stating the obvious!:upsidedow :p

The One of a Kind and using 100% cotton amendments are just rumors - I don't think it's been official. And the 100% cotton is UNDYED cotton. Know anyone who uses just 100% undyed cotton for a whol outfit? It will also be illegal to knowingly GIVE these things away too. So this will effect Big Gives. It effects books, clothing, toys, jewelry, bows, bedding, furniture - everything for kids. The CSPIA needs some admendements to say the least. This bill passed with an incredible majority, yet most didn't realize the consequences such a law would bring. The link Aimee posted lat night was very imfromative!

From my understanding, each component that goes into the making of say, an outfit needs to be tested. Testing cost over $100 for each component. (Don't know the actuall number) So if I were to list a stripwork jumper that used 8 different fabrics, each fabric would need to be tested for lead. Plus the thread, buttons and elastic used. Then each component needs to be tested AGAIN for Phthalates (sp). You do the math. ;) Then every size I make would need to be tested again (batch testing). Sounds doable! Even if this were a posibility (yeah right!) I can't imaging the companies doing the testing would have time to test my 1 garment.

I just head that the digital transition (analog TV to Digital) has been pushed back because people aren't ready. Who knows maybe this will get delayed, so they can take a better look at it.

I'm not in anyway trying to cause an argument of any kind, but people need to actually read the law, not others interpretations of the law. You will be found in violation of the law if you sell an item that contains more than the legal limit of lead, which is 600mm. The only fabric that contains anything close to that amount of lead is fabric that is used on patio furniture. You should make sure that buttons, zippers and such are compliant, but do you really think that a button is going to contain that much lead in it. I really think that people are over reacting. It is ok to petition to have the law amended to exclude home businesses, however that will leave a gaping loop hole for over seas manufacturers. They are working on defining what is acceptable. If you are using products that carry the lead compliant certificate than you are all clear. You will have to show that the materials that you use are compliant by displaying and providing the original certificate from the original manufacturer. In the video that I posted earlier they stated that a certain yarn was tested and it was found that one of the dyes used contained lead, but even if the entire garment had been made of this specific colored yarn it would still be well under the legal limit. I'm trying to be helpful by putting out information directly from the law makers website not trying to argue.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t53/AngelaJustin/boutique13054.jpg any one no what these are called or where I can buy them? looking for mickey shape and girly skulls

It that a hair clippie? It doesn't look like it would be hard to make the Minnie.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean that the cotton thing was official, it was just in a letter that the ones that worked on the law sent to the CSPIA, not a change to the law. They were trying to clarify, but just made it even more confusing, if you ask me.

I really don't think this will have any affect on the Big Give, we aren't selling and have never sold, we are giving gifts. If that was the case, no one could sew for their own children either. I did read in the law that the manufacturers that have things that weren't tested couldn't donate the items, but I seriously don't think that applies to us.

I'm glad they pushed back the digital conversion! I HATE my convertor box! We did get a CBS channel (that was it) with it, now we only get NBC, and this morning a PBS was coming in all digitized looking and I couldn't get it in for anything! I keep hoping Brian will put the antenna on the roof, that should get in more. With just our rabbit ears (no box) we get 3 channels quite nicely!
