Do you have any pics of your rooms/balconies? Are they woods or courtyard view? Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

Also, does anyone know if there are bunk bed rooms with enclosed balconies? Trying to determine whether club level is truly worth the extra cost. :-)

So are there any other "nuts" out there who exercise while on vacation? :lmao:

I read somewhere that there's a 3/4mi walking trail? Is this appropriate for a morning run? Any other suggestions on where to go? I'd love to take off and go for my run 'on Disney property', but I can always use a treadmill if that's not an option...

We're nuts, too and we love jogging/walking to FW and going to Sturdy Branches almost daily. I highly recommend taking a stroll or biking around FW at least once. The jogging map is located HERE.

While it can be pretty humid in the summer months, it's very pleasant early morning the rest of the year. You can't jog before sunrise though as there are no lights on the trails and it's pitch black with critters here and there. The concrete trail starts between VWL and the bus stop. It ends at the ponies and to continue you'll have to jog a bit on some wood chips until you get to the sidewalk. You'll then quickly cross the street because the side walk ends. From there, you can go all around FW. It's not very far so you may have to loop around again or go up and down the concrete trail between WL and FW to get over 3 miles R/T. The paths that start behind the marina/bikes run along Bay Lake, but in the summer they are full of buzzing bugs because they don't spray in that area. It's especially fun to wander through FW during any holiday when RVs/golf carts are decorated.

Photos of the WL trails are located HERE.

I have a reservation for late Aug/early Sept 2014 at WL, just me & DH. I also have a RO for June 2015 at WL booked, a bunk room, kids included. I kept hearing bunk rooms book quickly so I didn't want to miss out for 2015. If I get a BB when we go this year, can I call & add it to my 2015 RO reservation?

I'm thinking of having breakfast at Trail's End one morning. From looking at the map it looks like there is a path from WL to FW. Does anyone know how far it is? Or would it be better to take a boat?

Thanks-

We've walked to Trail's End for breakfast several times now. Without looking at a map, I would guess it to be about a mile. It takes us about 20 minutes or so to walk it. We've seen deer while on the trail. It comes out next to the pony stable. :)

:welcome: to the DIS and the thread! Yes, you will be able to change your rack rate booking to a BB as long as the bunk is available using the BB. You can also change to another applicable discount, but there's no guarantee that the same room type is available.

It's a wonderful walk and it's only about 20 mins. to TE. Sometimes we like to boat over and walk back or walk there and back.

We always take that trail behind the marina/bikes area, but then we have only been there in February, December and January. It is a dirt path that is along the lake. You have to watch out for crazy CM's in fast moving golf carts and an occasional runner or two. :) The dirt trail connects to the concrete trail at the road.

There are two trails in the woods. The trail that starts behind the marina forks off and crosses the road over to the concrete trail or you can continue straight along Bay Lake. Only in the summer are the bugs huge and hungry over there. But you're right, those carts and us crazy joggers are out there sometimes, as well as lots of critters that love to jump back into Bay Lake as you disrupt the silence. It's not conducive to biking though as your bike sinks into the sandy trail, so you won't encounter any as you often do on the concrete trail, but you already know that;)

We stayed in a 1st floor bunk bed room our last stay at WL. My boys are now too big for bunks but I really loved our ground floor room. Can't remember the room number, but it was right beside the small bridge over the creek on the gift shop side. We absolutely loved this spot and would like to be near there again on the first floor, but I was thinking that all of the those rooms are probably bunk rooms too and that just won't work for us now. Does anyone know if that is the case?

Thank you!!

I've been told that the bunks are scattered randomly throughout the resort so you should be able to book a two queen CV room near where you stayed in a bunk. Just ask for the south wing room, ground floor, close to the bridge.

Thanks! I will try that. :) seriously can't wait to be there!

I have been using this neat, new tool from TP website to try to narrow down room choices:

http://touringplans.com/hotel_maps/disneys-wilderness-lodge

If you put in room type, it will show you where those rooms are. In your case, I would put in BB room, 1st floor, then see what the neighboring rooms are like (you can click on them and get a description). It also provides a good way to 'ask' for that room location when you click on the room.

HTH!

Funny because club level bunk room isn't a possibility according to the TP site...but they do exist, right??

No photos handy, but there are plenty of photos around. My rooms have been identical to the photos of the CL standard rooms on Disney's site - just no CL amenities. I've booked woods view, and been given rooms that face the Villas (which according to most room maps should be courtyard, not woods view). In fact, I've had the exact same room the last three times I've stayed at WL, and my only request has been enclosed balcony.

I like the enclosed balconies because they are much more private. If I want my morning cup of tea on the balcony in my pajamas, I can - without feeling like I'm on display to the entire resort. They also provide more shelter when it rains, so I can enjoy the balcony in weather that might keep the more open balconies vacant. Yes, I have to stand up if I want to see the view, but I think the tradeoff is worth it. I think most people prefer to be able to sit to see the view, so I seldom have a problem getting my request.

I have had open balconies as well, and also the patios on the ground floor. They were nice - I just prefer the enclosed balcony. I've never really had a bad room at WL.
