(CLOSED) Disney's WILDERNESS LODGE and VILLAS INFORMATION THREAD ~11/13 - 6/14~

Ask anything on this thread - no worries. Let's see, I always bring my own pillow and I put it on top of one of the room pillows so my recollection might be sketchy. But, I don't recall them being very fluffy, more like a medium fluff perhaps? There are 4 pillows on each bed and I feel like each one is unique in their fir mess level. There should be 1/4 that you will like and if not, you could always ask Lodgekeeping for a couple of extras and see if those are more to your liking.

Thanks so much!!!!! 2 days until our first Disney trip! :)

Hi everyone! I'm looking for some advice. I will be surprising my boyfriend with two nights at the WL during our trip in May. He's graduating from 6 hard years of pharmacy school so I wanted to celebrate in a big way. I booked a standard view room and I'm just curious what would be the best type of request to put in? I know all of the views aren't great in standard, but are there any standard rooms with good views? He's never stayed at WL and I really want to try and wow him even though I know requests aren't guaranteed. Any advice would be awesome! Thank you!!

I would request a high floor to get the best chance of a good view.

We just switched from POR to WL for our trip in May. We're DLR regulars that are heading to WDW for the first time in 10 years! Soooo excited!!!! It's the first trip to WDW for our DD9 so we decided to splurge. We booked a woods view room, and requested 5th or 6th floor overlooking the Otter Pond...is that the best location for a chance for a MK/fireworks view?

Congratulations! We are DLR regulars who love WDW, and particularly WL as well. Your requests sound good for hoping to have a view of MK fireworks. The sixth floor is likely to have an enclosed balcony, while the fifth has open railing.

We find the WL has a similar quiet rural feel to POR, so they have lots of similarities. We prefer the food court at POR, but really love Roaring Fork (WL's quick service) too. It is just smaller, but the food is excellent.

Having the boat option to MK or CR is such a nice perk of WL. You should have a great trip.

You might want to consider requesting South Wing, since those standard view rooms do not overlook the loading dock. The view from the Balcony isn't great (mostly roof) but the other end of the room opens up to the lobby, which is beautiful.

We would also advise requesting high floor in general for a quieter location and a better view. Also keep in mind that while they are not guaranteed, upgrades do happen so it wouldn't hurt to request the area you want, even if it isn't possible with Standard view. The assignors will do their best, and if crowds are light enough you might get an upgrade. Either way, you will be at a beautiful resort.

For those of you who resort hop for Dole Whips and those delicious pork nachos...

Captain Cook's at Polynesian Resort: Closes on March 28 2014; re-opening in the summer. Temporary quick service location will be in the Great Ceremonial House. The menu offering will be similar, but no Dole Whips. The temporary location will be open daily from 6:30AM to 4:30AM.

:rotfl:Just tried to go to another link related to Capt. Cook's because the closure time listed above seems waaaaay off (it should be 11 PM, I believe) and I received this error message from the Disney site:

Someone Ate the Page!
Or for some other reason, the page you're looking for cannot be located.

Thanks for the update on Captain Cook's. We had planned to get the pork nachos on our next trip, and I'm very glad that Captain Cook's closes after we leave. :goodvibes

After staying at the WL for three trips in a row, we will be back at the BC next month to enjoy the Flower and Garden Show. But we scheduled dinner at Trail's End one night because we know we will miss being in the wilderness. We'll be back at WL in October. Eight months will seem like a long time.

We booked standard view for our 14 night stay last summer. We didn't put in any room requests. We only realised we had been upgraded to a courtyard view when we walked out onto our balcony. Hope you get some pixie dust!pixiedust:

We observed in December that our nachos had "fewer toppings" than in August, but it was still delicious!

WOW! I can't believe she called with the news while YOU were at WDW! What a wonderful memory you'll have of your first full day at WDW in 2014. Congratulations to DD! That is so exciting! What are her work location preferences?

If you haven't already seen it, I highly recommend reading through Disneyfreak508's award-winning DCP thread. She is amazing and it's great reading even for those not interested in the DCP.

HaHa - We observed in January that our nachos had less toppings than they did in December. :rotfl: Maybe it was a late December cut-back. ;)

Congratulations! That is really exciting. I was chatting with a store clerk who was on her last day of the program and she just loved it. :goodvibes

I got nothing done while I read that whole thread! I found it when she was almost at the end of it. She makes the program sound great. My son was in the DCP many years. I just have to say - don't choose food service. :sad1: But now he manages two restaurants, so some good came out of it after all. :)

Kook: believe it or not my youngest DD got to spend the evening with Jess last Juky!! This trip they are spending the entire day with a character breakfast, princess activities at MK, dinner in France at Epcot..... It's going to be great!!! Jess is an absolute sweetheart :). My oldest DD has been conversing with Jess. since she applied to the program :)

Bummer! Hopefully Captain Cook's is open again by Sept. 16th! These were far and away my favorite QS meal our whole trip!

ETA: Also, if you wouldn't mind updating the roll call I switched my dates to Sept. 16-24th to be able to enjoy the F&W Festival! :-) Thanks!!

What a coincidence. Jess seems really sweet. Is she still working part time at the Coronado?

What would be the best way to get from WL to Poly during the day when the monorail is down?

They are running buses from the MK to the Polynesian. You could take the WL bus to the MK, then switch to the Poly bus. The two bus stops are right next to each other. The WL bus stops at the CR when the monorail is down, so plan on a little longer trip.

You could also take the boat to MK and then take a boat to the Poly.

Or, you can take a taxi.
