We closed on VWL contract during the 2nd week of March and our deed was recorded on March 18th. We still have not received our information packet or our temporary membership cards? I have called membership services a number of times. During my last call I explained to the representative that I would like to have a card before I go to HHI the last week of June so that I could take advantage of any DVC discounts. She proceeded to tell me that HHI has very few DVC discounts and that I could just call DVC if the establishment had any questions. (Sounds very impractical to me.)

Can someone please give me some advice?

Thanks,

John

We had our temp cards almost immediately, and actually had the real ones by this amount of time passed after the deed was recorded. Call up Member Services on Monday, and do not let them put you off till you talk to someone who can give you a satisfactory answer.

Our temporary cards were included in the package of papers that we had to sign initially just to buy DVC.

MarkRG,

Did you buy through Disney or through resale? We purchased a resale.

Thanks

We closed in May (on a resale) and we have our cards. I would call again.

We bought direct, but, once the deed is recorded, you are part of DVC and the reseller's part in the deal is over, you deal direct with DVC from that point forward. As I said, talk to Member Services in the morning and do not stop until you get a satisfactory answer, do not accept whatever you're first told if it sounds wrong, talk to a supervisor or such if needed.

Put the heat on MS. We closed Aug 2003, had temps from the paper work we received and signed in July 2003...our permenent cards didn't arrive until April 2004...after a couple of calls to MS and me expressing my annoyance on the second call in March 2004 mysteriously the 'vendor' produced our cards.

We didn't receive temporary cards at all from our resale. We closed in May and we did get our permanent cards probably 2 weeks ago.

We never received any type of welcome pack though like when we bought through Disney.

Are you supposed to get a welcome pack if you buy resale?

when buying resale, it takes longer to be put into the computers, you dont get temp cards(cardboard or heavy paper cards) right away and no welcome home packet(thru disney its a perk).

once your in the computer you will be able to make ressies, get your plastic members cards.

purchasing thru disney you get temp cards as your signing the contract, unless your doing an add on, the number remains the same if its the same use year, you get your perks and when dvc receives the deposit or if paying cash you can make ressies right away as long as the ressies are for the dvc resorts not outside of the dvc resorts until your deed is recorded.

resale takes a little bit longer

I was under the impression that you still get a welcome kit (read it here http://www.dvc-resales.com/faq.htm#where) Or are you speaking of a different type of packet?

While most things Disney are quite efficient, the obtaining of the membership cards are something that I found to be quite below average. I hesitate to make a widespread generalization about that because I don't believe that everyone had the trouble with this that I did. But as far as my ownership went, it took a long time before I received my permanent membership id cards. As a matter of fact, they had to send me a new set of temporary id cards because my first set of temporary id cards expired. When I finally pressed the issue a little bit more, I only received one membership id card (my wife didn't get her card). Then, about a week later, I got two more permanent cards -- one for me and one for her. So I ended up with one extra permanent id card in my name. It was a problem that they acknowledged exists but, apparently, it hasn't been corrected fully yet. I purchased my ownership directly from Disney so I don't think it has anything to do with the new vs. resale issue. It's just something that doesn't appear to be a priority item for them.

Got a call from MS today asking if we got our cards and password to the website. Call them

We closed on a resale shortly after you did...we received our cards (permanent) in just a few weeks. For our first resale last year, we waited and waited, but they never came. I called again and got a new CM who was pretty helpful. She said she generated the request to send the cards out and put a rush on them. She gave me a direct number to reach her if I didn't get them in a certain amount of time. Didn't need to because the cards then came pretty quickly.

I would just call and maybe ask if they can put a rush on it, due to your upcoming trip...

Good luck.

I'm glad I saw this! We closed in March and still haven't received our permanent cards yet either! I guess I will call tomorrow and see about getting them.

Shortly after we closed on our resale, we got a welcome kit from Disney. I thought it came from our guide.

KingJ, so, what happened?

I called yesterday and received roughly the same response. Since I had already made a request earlier for my membership cards there was no need to make another request. Cards usually take 4 - 6 weeks. The representative did tell me that she had called the manager at HHI and that they would help me with any DVC discounts. (I don't have a warm fuzzy about this.)

Bottom line: I still need to wait for my permanent cards and that the staff at HHI will take care of me.
