So DH, DD, DS and I were at a mall in Tennessee as we were on our way back home from visiting relatives. The mall was very busy of course as it was on Sat. night. I ran into a store while DH watched DD and DS play on the little rides they had. As I came back out of the store he was talking to a lady who had a boy that was playing with our DS. She said "oh, that's your wife then, I'll be right back, I just have to run into this store for a second". Then she walked off leaving her son (approx age 4) under our supervision. I didn't even have enough time to process what was happening before she was gone.
I was trying to keep an eye on all three kids now. About 10 mins later, I voiced my strong concerns to DH that maybe this lady wasn't coming back. He went into the store to look for her, came out and said he did not find her. Of course, I was getting pretty panicked by then. She showed up a few minutes later all smiles and apologizing for taking so long. We didn't really say much else to her. I figured if she was going to do something like leave her child in the care of total strangers at a busy mall....I would likely not change her future decision making skills by pointing out to her that it is NOT a good practice.
I am just trying to figure out how someone can decide to just walk away from their child and think that they have properly judged someones character from a 3 min casual conversation. We were so close to just contacting security.
