Clearwater Beach Hotel - Recommendations

Hi there,

Want to stay the night in a hotel in Clearwater during our holiday in September but I want to stay ON the beachfront (I have 2 kids, aged 10 & 8) and it's really for them to play in the sand, paddle in the sea and relax away from the parks for a day.

Could any of you lovely people recommend any beachfront hotels and if any have private beaches that would be even more perfect.

We stayed here a few years ago, (in my list what year, below) it had just been taken over and rebadged Hilton, was Doubletree when we booked it. poor time to stay I think as staff were not friendly & food very poor.
Location is great right next to the pier on the beach. Reviews I have read more recent like the hotel so I am sure it is better now than then.
Clearwater was not our kind of place, we don't like beaches and we stayed for 7 nights, bored silly. Maybe if we had gone for only 3 nights we would have enjoyed it more.
I know cost has to be a consideration but personally I would take them on a Disney cruise, thats is our way to relax away from the parks. Floating luxury.

We stayed further down on Treasure Island. They have several small hotels that look they are still in the 50's but were lovely. They are "effencies" which meant you could cook and eat in the room as well which was great. They are on the beach front so very quick access to the beach which was much quieter than up at Clearwater. One of the hotels was called "The Fargo". Highly recommended and I want to go again soon.

Page Terrace at TI is superb - on the beach and close to restaurants. We have booked to stay there this year
