Hello,

My DH has a problem with claustrophobia wich can cause him to panic sometimes in small dark places..he just could not wait in the small waiting area of Haunted Mansion. My question is, what is Le Celliur really like? He is also a foodie and has been dying to try this restaurant. Would it be a mistake to try to get a reservation.

Thanks so much
Susan

There aren’t any windows or anything but other then that it felt like a normal restaurant both times I went.

I don't know the level of his claustrophobia but you can clearly see the entrance/exit of the restaurant. It's a pretty busy place so lots of activity. You might want to make sure he's seated facing the entrance/exit.

My daughter-in-law has some panic attacks and she's usually OK when she knows how she can leave and that she can leave at any time.

Shouldn't be a problem. The place is large enough inside. We've had our best WDW meals at Le Cellier, so I hope you don't miss out on it.

I too think it is a great dining experience, and would not want you to miss it -- but in the interest of full disclosure, it is a real consideration. I have a mild claustrophobia. I have building apprehension in the waiting area for Bug's Life (but I still like the attraction so I stick it out). I did not have a happy sensation in Le Cellier (but it would not stop me from going again). It is similar to the feeling of being in a large cave -- and I would not willingly go into a cave in the wild of any size! Maybe you can check it out earlier in the trip? Just look around. If his phobia is anything like mine he'll know right away.

Yes yes, it does feel a bit like a cave. I have mild claustorphobia, but it wasn't an issue for me at all. But I was definitely aware of the low ceiling-feeling and close quarters. Note that they put the tables very close together in this restaurant as well, which can add to a closed-in feeling. You may be able to mention on your reservation about this issue, and make sure they seat you as close to the entrance/exit as possible to help combat any feeling of not being able to "get out" if need be.

The restaurant is below ground. And, the tables are far too close together. I don't have claustrophobia, but it feels claustrophobic to me! I'd eat somewhere else.

also have issues in the Bug's Life waiting area and usually stay close to the entrance until time to go it, then join the family. Have been known to rip jackets apart when the zipper gets stuck, clawed my wrist bloody when I couldn't get the clasp on my watch open!! Never had a problem at LeCellier. It doesn't feel like a cave to me and I guess it just never occurred to me that it was a "claustrophobia zone". If you don't make a big deal out of it I bet he won't even notice.

Oh, and I don't remember it being as dark as the PP's photo shows.

Thanks so much for taking the time to post your replies. I am moved by the caring hearts of those on the board again and again.
I have printed out pictures and posts for DH.

Susan
