City, Sand, and Savanna - Link to new trip report

How am I gettting dragged into this??? Oh wait- I said nice poster and Marv copied me... that how.

Whenever there's trouble...

Playing Kick the can....

Yep, did that.

Considering it is never a habit of his I hope that was an anomaly.

That's gotta be it.

Glenn you are bringing the funny. Either that or I am finding everything funny today. :confused3 :rotfl2:

You might be in an easily-humored state today. :clown:

Just loving this report on NYC so far. I miss all the artsy fartsy stuff.

You came to the right place...that's my middle name. Except maybe without the 'artsy' part.

I just took Glenn's top of the page spot. Well now 2 spots. I guess now 3. :sad2:

I guess I will just wait here

Sorry, it was just a coincidence that I ended replies at a new page. I wasn't intending to put up a new chapter. But feel free to campout if you want to!

Wow, that is really sad trying to steal the credit like that.......... :sad2:

I prefer to think of it as claiming credit. ;)

You're a bad, bad man!!! :rotfl2:

I'm hearing that in a Lou Costello voice.

Or maybe you are turning into one of those groupies that camped for days and kept Lauren from seeing her beloved Today show............maybe the first ever "Glenn-eiber" :rolleyes2

No, she wouldn't be the first....I have these adoring groupies camped out right now:

:wave2: Still here.... Just saying....

You ain't kiddin'. Your little green light is on and everything.

Sorry, I'm not working on an update...I'm copying photos to DVD's, backing up a couple of years' worth of pictures. I have them on an external drive, but like to have the DVD's too.

What a great tour of Rock Center! Lauren did a great job with the descriptions and the pictures!

Beautiful picture of the Cathedral. I love it when shots come out like that.

Baby, Baby, Baby, OH- what a bummer about Beiber! I hope that incredibly well-designed sign does not go to waste.

I also appreciate fine Lego art, so I appreciate the posting of the Lego Prometheus tribute sculpture.

Checking in, what a great trip report so far! I honestly thought I'd just be glad to read the WDW parts of this blog, but the NYC chapters are really interesting! Your daughter is doing a fantastic job of making things come alive! That rockerfeller building seems pretty extravagant, very art deco in style. I loved the pics of the British Trade building too!

Looking forwards eagerly to the next chapters :)

Nice update Lauren! (And Glenn.) Looks like a pretty cool place to spend a morning. I see there was some nifty banter going. If you are getting nostalgic for the old days there Marv, I have about 150 episdoes of The Phil Harris / Alice Faye show (a must for Disney die hards) and prob 500 Fibber McGee and Molly episdoes.

Thank you! I'll let her know that you liked it.

We shall see....

Since you're a fellow Lego art connoisseur I'll let you know -- the Lego dragon at DTD is actually on loan from my private collection. :snooty: ;)

Squidgy, I could have sworn that you posted here before but it must have been the PTR. :welcome:

I honestly thought I'd just be glad to read the WDW parts of this blog, but the NYC chapters are really interesting!

Perish the thought! The whole thing is going to at least rate as "interesting".

To borrow (and modify) a quote from the movie "Vacation".....you think you hate it now, but wait'll you read it!

Thanks Squidge. It looked like a great tour, didn't it.

More good stuff to come. :goodvibes

Nice update Lauren! (And Glenn.)

Thank you for recognizing my efforts to code all of the pictures into her narrative. Whew! :faint:

Looks like a pretty cool place to spend a morning.

It does!

Ah yes, Phil Harris who did some voice work on "The Aristocats". Hard to imagine that Disney employed someone who's biggest hit was "Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette", although it probably wasn't considered a vice back then. I'm not familiar with Alice Faye and whether she did any work for Disney.

One in the same. He did Baloo on Jungle Book, Thomas O'Malley in Aristocats and Little John in Robin Hood. Before that, he had a career in radio, first with Jack Benny, then on his own show. I still think the Phil Harris / Alice Faye show was the best in radio. As to Alice Faye, she never did anything Disney, though on their radio show, they had to re-enact Cinderella for their sponsor's daughter's birthday party because Walt Disney ("Old Walter" to Phil) denied his request to check out the reels for a private screening. Walt wasn't actually in the episode, but it still cracked me right up. Hard to imagine the days before VCR's, DVD's, DVR's and Blu-Ray. (Link to that episode is here.)

I have a SLEEP schedule ????? My work schedule fills up most of my time so sleep is not on a schedule just whenever I can fir it in!!

Old Walter! :rotfl2: Wow, you are a Phil Harris groupie.

It's amazing that there are even copies of the episodes you have. Back then, they couldn't imagine that there would be a market for those shows after they originally ran, plus the tape was expensive, so they usually just copied over them. I recently read that only a handful of individual segments of Johnny Carson's first 10 years on the Tonight Show ('62-'72) are still around today...favorite segments of his that were saved only at his personal request.

Well you don't need it, but I have to get my beauty sleep. ;)

Picking up where Lauren left off...

After that, the tour was done. We handed back our headphones and clippy-things. Mom and I were the only ones going to the Top of the Rock right after, so Jason and the unnamed trainee escorted us there. Jason pointed out the chandelier made by Swarovski himself.

NYC2012111.jpg

He even showed us how they made the marble go light to dark on the floor so it would look like it was emitting light.

NYC2012112.jpg

After that they left us and we waited in line. We really enjoyed their company. Before we went in the elevator, the guy asked us where we were all from. There were people from California and Germany there! Talk about a long way from home!

Then we went to the Top of the Rock and I took some pictures of buildings. I have to say, the view was pretty fantastic.

NYC2012113.jpg

Oh, I loved how there was grass on the roof of this building. I guess that’s easier than going all the way to Central Park.

NYC2012114.jpg

NYC2012115.jpg

The next one is from the other side.

NYC2012116.jpg

NYC2012117.jpg

Oh, another cool thing was that a couple was getting married. I couldn’t get any closer because some stupid people were blocking my way and it was roped off. So, I just held the phone up and pushed the button. I think I did a pretty good job, all things considered.

NYC2012118.jpg

Here is another work of Swarovski. I loved the different colors and how the sun plays off of them.

NYC2012119.jpg

I thought I’d get up on one of these decorative things just to give all of you Disers a little perspective. Pretty big, huh?

NYC2012120.jpg

We were higher up this time and there were a lot less people so my mom took a picture without other yayhoos in the way.

NYC2012121.jpg

Then I took one with her next to the Empire State building.

NYC2012122.jpg

I didn’t notice until now that she blinked. I guess she was feeling tired.

We actually went one more story up, but it would’ve been pictures of the same buildings again. It was cool, though.

After that, we realized that the phone was at 25% because of all of my picture taking. And, we had to get to the cruise soon. So, we rushed back to the hotel to charge the phone. Then we rushed to Pax Wholesome Foods. We had some awesome sandwiches with avocado in them. Sorry I don’t have any pictures of them, but we were really in a hurry. I did get a picture of a person being a Statue of Liberty. Unfortunately he/she decided to look away right as I took the picture.

NYC2012123.jpg

On a side note, I played the Statue of Liberty when I was in third grade. Sadly, we don’t have any pictures for comparison, but I’m sure I was much better, not to mention cuter.

Now I can comment on the actual update.

Another great update. Love the light fixture, sooo pretty. Also great views from the top of the rock. My favorite picture is of Lauren without all the yahoos in the picture.

Lunch sounded great, sorry you had to rush. Looking forward to the next installment.

Is that you sitting in a car, reading a newspaper in front of my house?

Noooooo, of course not, that would be creepy Glenn!:scared: ;)

No comment on the Judy game at this point. :scratchin

Crap! I forgot to scan for reflective Judys!!! I think I subconsciously blocked them out because the Rules Committee was so darn strict regarding reflections in the past.:snooty:

I love the update though! How fun to hear Lauren's perspective on the trip. She has a witty writing style, much like her dad I think, yes? The crystal chandelier is gorgeous and that view is stunning.:thumbsup2 I don't quite get the grass on top of the building though. It doesn't look like it serves any function except to look green? Maybe it's all those ugly air conditioner fan thingys that cheapen it?? Still pretty cool to see a green grass roof! Great update Lauren!!:goodvibes

Since the chapter just posted is a little trickier than most, the Rules Committee would like to ask you to submit your responses with:
- your overall count,
- which specific picture(s) you see her in (by number),
- and any other pertinent information, such as where in the picture you see her.

We'll let it "soak" for a couple of days and see what you folks come up with.

:)

And before you get any big ideas, this post is not considered "an update" for inclusion in the Judy-game. ;)

Last shot.

Since she has a yellow shirt I think I see her reflection in photo 5, 6 ,7 and 10. Of course she's in photo 11.
