City, Sand, and Savanna - Link to new trip report

I love how when you're at a Disney resort you don't necessarily have to be at a park to have fun.

Ain't that the truth? I was just telling Holly that, in the beginning, Disney was all about the rides for me. Then over time, it was also about the shows, the food, the atmosphere, the resorts...

No one can resist taking a picture of the floor when they enter the Grand Floridian. In fact, they should rename it "The Grand Flooridian".

IMG_7020.jpg

"Grand Flooridian". Heh. Nothing beats a good pun. But seriously, that looks like a Neverland crime scene. Captain Hook finally snapped and got his revenge.

She's probably hiding somewhere in there, but I'll go with zero Judy's

Ooops........one Judy finger (multiple times) in the video!

On second and closer look.........one Judy hiding in the shade in the lounge chair to go with the finger video. Total of 2 Judy's

You're lucky that no one else happened to be on at the moment I posted, and I'm wondering how in the world you were...Stalker, Texas Ranger. But, that aside, congrats! You are correct and win yet another round of mega-points! :cheer2:

2 Judys.... picture 3 and the video. The one in the lounge chair and the finger in the video.

It's just like old times, with Marv stalking me and you getting the bridesmaid award. :bride:

Now I have to make sure that the Person behind the kids in the pool party party - where the pitch burst is, is NOT Judy. She would be around the corner on the right. ;)

She was a little out of frame, but you had the right idea.

You know who already got the point but hey Trying for something around here.

:rotfl2:

I don't blame ya.

Nice update! I love the Kidani pool area, and now that they have the additional Savanna open, being able to watch the animals from there is pretty cool too! :cool1:

It's funny that you say that, I almost put that in the chapter. I thought about it, but I guess I was just too lazy to figure out how to work it in and actually write it down! It's a nice little spot, where you can just take a few steps away from the pool and watch some critters.

Hard to imagine that even on vacation, there can be some bickering between siblings. :rotfl2: That Florida sun, and a lack of food can have that kind of impact, especially on teenage boys! :rolleyes1

Oh, with 3 boys, I imagine you've had some knock-down-drag-out's! :rotfl:

Nice pictures at the Grand Flo! And Judy's comment about the Luau performers playing volleyball is :rotfl:

That was pretty funny. I asked her last night if she remembered saying it; she didn't.

Still need to make it to that Luau sometime! :thumbsup2

Yes, you do.

Pool time - plenty of time for transportation, a dole whip picture, a quick walk over to the Grand Flo rabbits and Luau guys playing volleyball. :thumbsup2

Wow, great summary Pat! Makes me wonder why it took me so long to write. :goodvibes

I need to book Kidani, that's one of the DVC I have yet to stay --- Been to Jambo and I have visited but I do hear the pool area is amazing and it looks like it.

You do! I love it there. I like the pool much better than at Jambo.

It is a nice walk from GF to Poly. Glad the bunny didn't attack. :rotfl2:

We couldn't risk another frontal assault. That rabbit's dynamite.

Isn't that spot on the beach now where the VGF are? :lmao:

I think there's still some beach there because we passed beach and a construction area. But I haven't been there since, so I'm not sure. It'd be a shame to take some beach away from those Luau guys.

Oh yeah,

A fight that sent James to lock himself in the bathroom? Now I do know it is big enough to live in there but I am glad you could get all the feathers back unruffled and not worry about being late.

Siblings not getting along for every moment of vacation, can you believe it? Yeah, I was glad we were able to salvage the evening, but I wasn't sure there for a little bit.

Ain't that the truth? I was just telling Holly that, in the beginning, Disney was all about the rides for me. Then over time, it was also about the shows, the food, the atmosphere, the resorts...

I'm glad you're setting Holliepie straight there Reddog. And I couldn't agree with you more, except I'd say it more like: the food, the shows, the food, the atmosphere, the food, the resorts…

"Grand Flooridian". Heh. Nothing beats a good pun. But seriously, that looks like a Neverland crime scene. Captain Hook finally snapped and got his revenge.

Ha! That made me laugh. I should go in there with a piece of chalk and some crime-scene tape! :lmao:

Hmmmm, I was going to say something about when "next time" would be, but I think I'll refrain. :rolleyes1

Truth be told, resort to resort transportation can be pretty complicated, so good on Gram and Poppy for doing that.

Haha, in your picture of "Maji", the girl looks like she's leaning out to pose for you. "Hold on a sec, I'm getting a picture taken"... Only in Disney...

I'm never around early enough to get in on the Judy sightings, but this one was truly special ... when I saw the lounge chair photo I immediately wondered how many people would miss that one.

BAHAHAHAHA, while the side vid was great, the ever present finger just totally had me :rotfl:

I was just thinking about this recently how it must be so much fun to be a resort CM who just gets to play all day. Dream Job.

"The Grand Flooridian"... LOVE IT!!!

LOL. The finger in the video. I saw you though.
Glad he came out of the bathroom and the front desk did not have to come up.
MMM, dole whip.
Nice GF pics.
Great update and pics.

Scary picture. I wouldn't want to make him mad now! :rolleyes1

Heaven knows that your body can get plumb worn-out by this point in the week on a Disney trip!)
That's when you're just supposed to suck it up and power through!!!

My notes say that the pool was fantastic.
You needed notes to remind you of that??? :rolleyes1

Soon it was time to get changed to go. Back at the suite, James and Lauren got into an argument, I don't even remember what about. I'm sure that tiredness and hunger were a factor. At one point, James locked himself in the bathroom, saying that he wasn't going to go to the Luau.
He must have been too tired to think straight. The easy solution would be to grab his new wand and turn her into a frog or something.

If you plan on 2 hours, it will take you under an hour; conversely, if you chance it, hoping that you can make it in an hour, that'll be the time that it takes 2 hours.
This needs to go in a Disney World guidebook. Never, have I seen anyone explain the use of Disney World transportation better than this. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

No one can resist taking a picture of the floor when they enter the Grand Floridian. In fact, they should rename it "The Grand Flooridian".
:sad2:

The music from the Grand piano was as beautiful as the architecture surrounding it. I was sure that I would be asked to leave at any minute.
Asked? You're just lucky that you didn't have 2 guys wearing suits just quietly grab you under the arms and carry you out without saying a word.

"I'm late! I'm late! For a very important date." Although he looks more like Thumper than the White Rabbit.
If you can't say something nice...

Then we started our walk back to the Poly. As we got closer, we saw some pretty buff guys playing volleyball on the beach, just kind of passing the ball back and forth. It took me a minute, but I realized that they were probably guys from the Luau show blowing off steam in-between shows. I told Judy who I thought that they were, and I said that Lauren and Marlene were in for a treat.

She said, "they’re not the only ones."

Hey, I'm standing right here!
:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: Let's be honest though. You were looking forward to the female hula dancers, weren't you? :rolleyes1

Hmmmm, I was going to say something about when "next time" would be, but I think I'll refrain. :rolleyes1

What, when the "next time" that I post a chapter will be?

Truth be told, resort to resort transportation can be pretty complicated, so good on Gram and Poppy for doing that.

Exactly. That was my line of thinking. Way to go, G&P. :thumbsup2

Haha, in your picture of "Maji", the girl looks like she's leaning out to pose for you. "Hold on a sec, I'm getting a picture taken"... Only in Disney...

When I looked at that picture, I had no idea what she was doing. Then I thought, "What would John Travolta think that Idina Menzel thinks?" and so I just 'let it go'.

I'm never around early enough to get in on the Judy sightings, but this one was truly special ... when I saw the lounge chair photo I immediately wondered how many people would miss that one.

Yeah, I thought that that would be a good one, but stalker-Marv got it pretty quickly.

BAHAHAHAHA, while the side vid was great, the ever present finger just totally had me :rotfl:

Wasn't that a riot? I played it back while we were there at the pool and thought, "oh fer cryin' out loud. I'm not gonna go back and stand in line with all those kids again."

I was just thinking about this recently how it must be so much fun to be a resort CM who just gets to play all day. Dream Job.

I'm sure the pay's not all that great, but it'd be a lot of fun.

"The Grand Flooridian"... LOVE IT!!!

It sounds like something you'd say. I'm surprised you hadn't already proposed the name change!

LOL. The finger in the video. I saw you though.

That was so funny. She's consistent! Now you see why 99% of the pictures in my trip reports are shot by me. That's not her thing.

Glad he came out of the bathroom and the front desk did not have to come up.

Well, I was probably bluffing. But yeah, I was glad that we got it worked out!

MMM, dole whip.

I didn't have one on that evening, but always good to know, in case of DWE -- dole whip emergency.

Nice GF pics.
Great update and pics.

Thanks Scott!

Scary picture. I wouldn't want to make him mad now! :rolleyes1

He takes his magic very seriously.

That's when you're just supposed to suck it up and power through!!!

Oh, is that when? We needed you around for a pep talk!

You needed notes to remind you of that??? :rolleyes1

Yes. Terrible memory. Good thing I wrote it down.

He must have been too tired to think straight. The easy solution would be to grab his new wand and turn her into a frog or something.

:wizard:

He's such a rule-follower...no magic permitted outside of Hogwarts and all that.

This needs to go in a Disney World guidebook. Never, have I seen anyone explain the use of Disney World transportation better than this. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

That's it in a nutshell. :squirrel:

Aw, c'mon. That's funny. I don't care who ya are.

Asked? You're just lucky that you didn't have 2 guys wearing suits just quietly grab you under the arms and carry you out without saying a word.

Yeah, that's pretty much the vision that was in my head that I just summed up with the word 'asked'. :rotfl:

If you can't say something nice...

Mum's the word.

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: Let's be honest though. You were looking forward to the female hula dancers, weren't you? :rolleyes1

wow marv took you three times to guess to finally gte it right.:worried: pretty weak if you ask me.

i saw the two right away, but im not a stalker of glenn...he stalks me.:thumbsup2

you know i have seen that pool towel trick before, and maybe have used it myself, but wondering if maybe those towels were just left by lazy people or something...

glad you are getting to the luau, i wonder if my good times there had anything to do with you booking it. well at least if the ladies in your family have something to watch so will you.
:goodvibes

wow marv took you three times to guess to finally gte it right.:worried: pretty weak if you ask me.

I had that same thought. Kind of Rosie-esque with his multiple guesses.

i saw the two right away, but im not a stalker of glenn...he stalks me.:thumbsup2

Hey now.

you know i have seen that pool towel trick before, and maybe have used it myself, but wondering if maybe those towels were just left by lazy people or something...

I've done it too, but when I'm actually there. It's not cool if they're not there to use them, or are saving them for sometime hours later.

Yeah, maybe they left and were too lazy to put their towels in the laundry bin. I don't know.

glad you are getting to the luau, i wonder if my good times there had anything to do with you booking it.

Yeah, a little. But it was more from us putting it to a family vote for which dinner show to go to, and it won, mostly because we'd already done Hoop the last time.

well at least if the ladies in your family have something to watch so will you.
:goodvibes

I'm not sure I know what you mean. :rolleyes1

Okay I m waaay to late for any points !! How come Mar who never posts on his on TR is always right there for a Judy Update:rotfl2:Anyon els think this s Fishy;):confused3:rotfl2: My Judy felt the same way at GF !! She said she didn't feel like she belonged there:rotfl2:

Hey Glen!

I've been gone from the DIS for far too long. In just over a year I moved to AL, had a baby, moved back to FL, then moved back to AL. With some other pretty sad lows in between all of that.

I spent the past couple of days catching up on your report. There is way too much to comment on, but as usual I loved all of it! :thumbsup2

There is one thing that I want to comment on is thanks for mentioning Parnsips being under-appreciated (in your Boma post). They are my fav vegetable!

Also, I read a couple of weeks ago that they aren't going to do the Hyperspace Hoopla this year at Star Wars Weekend. You were the first person to come to my mind. I'm so glad that your report forced me to go see it a couple of years ago. It was such a highlight of my trip and I can't believe they aren't going to do it. Such a disappointment for everyone that is going this year and wont get to see it. Hopefully they will see the errors of their ways and go back to it next year! (One can only hope!)

IMG_7020.jpg

:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao: OK - I'll admit its probably not THAT funny, but it really did crack me up. Thanks for the laugh!

Up next: Loo-wow! Or...Hula the dogs out?

You might be pushing it a bit here. Just sayin!

Love the video of you on the slide. Great form!

That pool is just too pretty. Love it!

Ahh - the old sibling meltdown. Glad it all worked out and James didn't stay locked in the bathroom all afternoon.

Fun update. I can't wait to see what you thought of the Luau!

We never did stop for lunch while we were in the park, we just kind of powered through and then ate some Chex mix in the van on the ride home.

Hey, I think my family is having some subliminal influence on your traveling style.:thumbsup2

I also found out that James had gotten a wand...er, I mean, a wand had picked James back at Wizarding World. I didn't even realize that. Apparently he got it when I went with the girls for a second ride on Forbidden Journey.

Now this is the kind of shopping we like--when you don't know it's taking place. Although the surprise credit card bills get a little old. Anyway, are you sure he didn't want a postcard too?

My notes say that the pool was fantastic.

The pictures appear to support that claim.

If you plan on 2 hours, it will take you under an hour; conversely, if you chance it, hoping that you can make it in an hour, that'll be the time that it takes 2 hours.

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: Truth.

This is why I refer to it as Disney Bus Roulette.

We wanted to at least find out where we needed to go for the Luau. On our way, we passed Captain Cook's, so of course I quickly snapped a picture of the Dole Whip station!

:woohoo:

Or maybe because I felt like riff raff, wearing a Hawiian shirt to the Grand Floridian.

That takes some guts. If you had flip flops on, I'm going to start wondering about the competence of GF security.

I told Judy who I thought that they were, and I said that Lauren and Marlene were in for a treat.

She said, "they’re not the only ones."

Hey, I'm standing right here!

:headache:

Of course any comments you make about the hula dancers would be met with a slap upside the head. Double standards...:sad2:

Okay I m waaay to late for any points !!

And here I thought that you'd still try to wrangle some out of Rules Committee anyway.

How come Mar who never posts on his on TR is always right there for a Judy Update:rotfl2:Anyon els think this s Fishy;):confused3:rotfl2:

Yes, I think it's fishy!! He didn't even wait for me to put up the chapter...he was helping get to the next page. :sad2: I'm not worried about the government snooping on me; I'm more worried about Marv snooping on me!

My Judy felt the same way at GF !! She said she didn't feel like she belonged there:rotfl2:

It's pretty hoity-toity. :snooty:

this is great! reading a little bit each day! i can't wait to hear all about your trip. :thumbsup2

:welcome: ememtingle

Hey Glen!

Jen! Long time, no see!

I've been gone from the DIS for far too long. In just over a year I moved to AL, had a baby, moved back to FL, then moved back to AL. With some other pretty sad lows in between all of that.

I'm sorry to hear about some sad lows in the time since I talked to you last, but looking at your signature picture I can't believe how big Creighton has gotten! And that's a pretty cute little tyke perched on top of him there.

I spent the past couple of days catching up on your report. There is way too much to comment on, but as usual I loved all of it! :thumbsup2

Great, thanks for reading! :goodvibes

There is one thing that I want to comment on is thanks for mentioning Parnsips being under-appreciated (in your Boma post). They are my fav vegetable!

That's too funny that you'd comment on that. They are great though, and you don't see them much. Julienned and sauteed with carrots...mmm! I want to say that Judy has put them in mashed potatoes too, hopefully I'm thinking correctly on that.

Wah?! That's terrible! That was the best part about Star Wars Weekends. I've watched videos of that on Youtube and it still brings a smile to my face. It was so entertaining, one of my favorite things from our trip a couple of years ago.

:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao: OK - I'll admit its probably not THAT funny, but it really did crack me up. Thanks for the laugh!

I'm glad you got a laugh. My work here is done.

You might be pushing it a bit here. Just sayin!

You win some, you lose some.

Love the video of you on the slide. Great form!

When you can see me...in between the leaves and the fingers and everything. It's a pretty good slide though! :thumbsup2

That pool is just too pretty. Love it!

Me too! Wish I was there now!

Ahh - the old sibling meltdown. Glad it all worked out and James didn't stay locked in the bathroom all afternoon.

I know that everyone's been there. Me too, it was too good of a night to miss out.

Fun update. I can't wait to see what you thought of the Luau!

Thanks.

Hey, I think my family is having some subliminal influence on your traveling style.:thumbsup2

PB&J's in a parking lot or at a rest stop and we'd have been mistaken for you.

Now this is the kind of shopping we like--when you don't know it's taking place. Although the surprise credit card bills get a little old. Anyway, are you sure he didn't want a postcard too?

Yes, if shopping has to take place, this is the way to do it. And keep the cost to a minimum.

Yeah, I'm sure he was bummed that he missed out on a postcard.

The pictures appear to support that claim.

Good thing I took pictures. I wouldn't want to be accused of making unsubstantiated claims.

This is why I refer to it as Disney Bus Roulette.

It's a fun game! When you win.

When you don't, well. :headache:

That takes some guts. If you had flip flops on, I'm going to start wondering about the competence of GF security.

I was getting the stink-eye, that's for sure.
smiley-rolleyes003.gif

(Actually I'm just kidding about that, lest anyone think that the Grand Floridian was not welcoming.)

Of course any comments you make about the hula dancers would be met with a slap upside the head. Double standards...:sad2:

You're so right. It's tough being a guy these days.

So it turned out that we left Islands of Adventure a little after 2 o'clock, and were back home at Kidani by 3. We never did stop for lunch while we were in the park, we just kind of powered through and then ate some Chex mix in the van on the ride home.

I'm hungry just reading that

His patronus is a koala bear. (Sorry to those who may not be familiar with it, but that's a little Harry Potter humor.)

Wow, so does it charm the enemy into wanting to cuddle or gum them to death?

Great pool break!

Soon it was time to get changed to go. Back at the suite, James and Lauren got into an argument, I don't even remember what about. I'm sure that tiredness and hunger were a factor. At one point, James locked himself in the bathroom, saying that he wasn't going to go to the Luau. Other people tried to reason with him, pointing out that it was already paid for, and of course, that it would be a great evening. If you had walked by our suite at that moment, I'm not sure, but it's possible that you may have heard someone inside the suite sternly announcing, "If I have to call down to the Front Desk and have someone come up here to open this door, I will!" Eventually everyone's feathers got unruffled and we made it down to the bus stop at 6:10, and a Magic Kingdom bus showed up at 6:13. This was more like it, great bus mojo. We arrived at the Magic Kingdom at 6:33, mosey'd our way to the monorail platform and made it to the Polynesian at 6:50. The Luau wasn't until 8 o’clock, but I wanted to allow around 2 hours to get there. If you plan on 2 hours, it will take you under an hour; conversely, if you chance it, hoping that you can make it in an hour, that'll be the time that it takes 2 hours.

Kid drama. Teen/Tween drama. Nothing like it. Sigh

Grand Flooridian. Good one!

Up next: Loo-wow! Or...Hula the dogs out?

Where's the picture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wow marv took you three times to guess to finally gte it right.:worried: pretty weak if you ask me.

Hey, I've played enough baseball to know as long as you have one strike left, you still have a chance.........

I had that same thought. Kind of Rosie-esque with his multiple guesses.
That's what happens when you skim first, then go back and read, and THEN decipher what you read to take one more look............

To the Victor go the spoils, and a whole lot of :duck: around here........... It is easy to see who the jealous ones are with their constant complaining from being so far behind! :sad2:

And here I thought that you'd still try to wrangle some out of Rules Committee anyway.
Minor miracle that!

Yes, I think it's fishy!! He didn't even wait for me to put up the chapter...he was helping get to the next page. :sad2: I'm not worried about the government snooping on me; I'm more worried about Marv snooping on me!
Oh, not like you don't make it blatantly obvious when you are about to post an update with your Smiley parade, and even hinted the possibility earlier in the day......to Rosie even!

Besides, stalking glennbo might not be on the list of Top 10 Hobbies, but I'm trying to do my little part to move it up the list.......... :tiptoe:

Glenn, catching up (we were in Florida for nine days).

Nice job to your parents getting out and doing things while you were gone. :thumbsup2

I love the pictures from around the pool (we never did get there last week) and can't wait to have an entire day there in September.

Too funny about the fight and the locked bathroom door. I so remember those days and I don't miss them for a minute. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Nice pictures of the GF. My husband would be right there with you in feeling like riff raff. However, he surprised me and said he wouldn't mind staying in the Villas. :crazy2:

Buff guys? I'm right there with Judy. Husband or no husband. :rotfl2:
