A friend of mine told me you can go to City Hall and sign up for a birthday party where you get to decorate a cake and hang out with the characters. She said its like $20. Anyone know anything about this??????

It is called Pat E Cake's birthday celebration or something like that. We made ressies through the Disney dining line, but ended up cancelling. It was $16+tax.

We didn't enjoy this. We went for my son's 8th birthday. Mickey & Minnie make an appearance near the end of the hour. You can get a quick picture taken with them but NO autographs!
The cake was dry & the frosting was dyed very brightly & my 4 yr old left with one red eyebrow.
It was almost the price of a character meal for a child & I would rather go that route to get one on one character attention plus a good meal. If you tell any of the sit down restaurants you're celebrating a birthday...they will bring out a special dessert & your child will get sung to.

I agree with a previous poster, I personally have done this and wouldn't waste my money again (and it was cheaper then). If it were me, I'd budget in a character meal as part of the celebration over this.

I hope whoever is celebrating in your party has a great birthday! We, as a family, spend all of our birthdays at Disneyland and there is no better place for it. :)

I guess I'll offer a differing opinion -- we enjoy the birthday party celebration. I thought it was a great deal when it was only $10, but I am still willing to fork over the $16 (per person) for this event. It's become somewhat of a tradition with my now 5-year-old.
It doesn't even compare to a character meal, but we just enjoy it for what it is -- a time to kick back and relax, decorate cupcakes/mini-cakes and celebrate my daughter's birthday. :)

I've walked by this several times and it seems to me it's geared mostly to the very young. My DD10 has commented several times that Pat E. Cake seems a little freaky and the whole thing is a little cheesy. Speaking of cheese, I think it's horrible that you can't get autographs from M&M. :confused3
