Me (Cindy, according to the Disney Personality quiz) 40 something, Mom, vacation planner and financier. Not in great shape healthwise, but determined to have fun anyway. MBA with an artist’s soul, sentimental softy.

DH, (Al) 47 (he doesn’t care), gets on the plane when it’s time. Remodeling Contractor, award-winning homebrewer. (Where’s the beer?)

DD (Tink) 10, thinks she’s a preteen, pure Princess. Dancer, artist, soccer mid-Monster, brainiac, comedienne.

We arrived on time from Albuquerque on Friday Aug. 31. Southwest is great about being on time, but it took a while to get our car from Dollar. Found our way to WDW, and Tink was gratifyingly surprised that we were staying at the GF. Waited in a line to check in, and then had to go back because the first CM and I forgot that I had asked for E-night tickets. Al and Tink got the trolley tour of the place while I went back. I did try to schmooze at check-in, to no avail. For the first of many times, I heard “at the rate you’re paying, there are no rooms (main building, views)”. We were assigned a room on the 3rd floor of Big Pine Key, immediately overlooking the quiet pool. Then we were off to E-night, with a stop at the MK Bakery for a bite. Loved my roasted vegetable sandwich, Al was not so crazy about his proscuitti and mozzarella one, we both loved the rocky road brownie and fruit tart we shared. Yum. Tink wanted ice cream for dinner. She had eaten a big lunch, so we let her. E-night was a blast, no lines at all. Haunted Mansion first, then off to Splash Mountain. We rode it twice, even though the mean CM made us walk all the way around to the entrance when there were no other riders in sight. We got soaked the second time through. Two trips around Big Thunder dried us off a bit. Then it was off to four or five trips through Buzz Lightyear, twice through Space Mountain, once around the Skyway. We closed the park, with Tink deciding at 10 pm that she might like to try Alien Encounter after all. I said no, maybe when you’re 12. The Goodnight Kiss continued the entire time that E-night was going on, what a sight from Splash Mountain! Then it was off to GF for a continuing night of adventure.

Beds are a big deal to me. I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and tend to be an insomniac, this is aggravated by real problems with joint pain. I do well if I can get a good night’s sleep. For a five star hotel, GF has some mighty hard beds. And their “quiet pool” is anything but. When the screaming finally stopped at 1:45 am, and I started to drift off, a party erupted next door. Four to six adults, sounding drunk and speaking loudly in Spanish. Must have been the group from the pool. It even woke Al up, not an easy thing to do. After about thirty minutes of this, I called the front desk and told them we wanted to change rooms in the morning – away from the pool and our neighbors! As I got back in bed, the door between the two rooms opened – I could see light all the way around it! Our neighbors needed another room to party in, apparently. I got to the door before they got all the way in, banged on it with the flat of my hand and pushed it closed, and screamed “what are you doing? SHUT UP!” Then I deadbolted the door, something I will now make sure I do at every hotel I stay in for the rest of my life. I called the front desk again, and they said they would send a night manager up, but we never heard this happen. The party was really quiet for a while, started up again, but eventually died about 3 am. At one point Tink asked if either of us knew any Spanish curse words. When we got up at 7 in the morning, I made sure I turned on the TV. We packed our bags, waited for a baggage pick-up, and left for Discovery Cove. After a full and very pleasant day there, our GF adventures continued when we checked in for a new room at about 5 pm that day. I’ll continue the report with that story and more details about Discovery Cove in Part 2.

Sorry you had a bad first night at the GF. At least you had fun in the MK. Some people are so ignorant. And they are just plain stupid...I am sure they didn't even think about who they were disturbing. Oh well....Looking forward to reading part 2!

Wow!!! Sounds like a wild time was had by some family at the Grand Floridian!! How horrid! I know I always need my sleep (whatever little I get when I am at Disney ;) ) I hope your day gets better tomorrow, oh who am I kidding, you are going to Discovery Cove... it will be great!!! :D

I hate that you had bad first night at the GF. I hope your experience improved the next night.
Thanks for posting.

Interesting...the T.V. in the early AM is a great bit of advice for dealing with obnoxious folks...(was it loud?) Another one I've heard is setting the alarm clock on "ALARM/BUZZ" full volume...set to go off after you exit the room. Either one should work, as well as a nice note on Hotel/resort courtesy and etiquette slipped under their door! Looking forward to part 2...:bounce:
