Since I will be booking the ADR in about a month, I've been watching availability 6 months in advance at the 6am ADR opening to see what my chances are. Each day, I can consistently find availability for party of 8, but never for party of 9.

So, should I just book for 8 and show up with 9? One of those 9 is actually a 4yo granddaughter.

if you book the 8 and show with 9 be prepared for only 8 being seated as I have seen groups who did not count a baby and not be able to seat the larger group. try booking a 7 ressie with another 2 ressie at same time

You should not book 8 and show up with 9. It doesn't matter if it is a 4 month old or a 4 year old, they count.
I don't think there are any tables larger than 8. I think you are going to have to call.

it may be table size. One table that fits 10, since it is even numbers typically, may be tough vs 8, where they use together two 4 tops

yu may need to call. Or break the adr into 2 resizes and be prepared to be split into 2 tables.

Given my group makeup, I think I'll go with two parties of 5 and 4. We're under four different MDE's, all connecting to my MDE. I'll have to use two of the MDE's to make the reservation for the same time, correct? If instead, I have to do back to back times, what would be the strategy to show up at the same time -- a few minutes late for the first ADR and a few minutes early for the second?

Thanks again for the info, gang.

CRT pretty much won't talk to you until your ADR time.

I've booked CRT online for a party of 9. It isn't impossible. If you're staying onsite and there for more than a few days, you should be able to get it later in your trip. If you're looking right now at dates exactly 180 days out, yes, they're going to be booked. When your window opens, I'd be on at exactly 6 am and make it the first (or near the first) ressie you try for.

I'd say that CRT is one of the most strict in terms of being flexible with grouping parties, adding or subtracting a person, and arrival time. It's always booked, and there just isn't the room there to move tables around. They also seem to have a pretty strict order they seat the tables in to go with the princess' rotation. I've read about people who booked two parties of two, and they wouldn't seat them together. Other restaurants on property are generally very accomodating
Like others have said, just call! I'd only book 5 and 4 as a last resort, with the understanding you won't be seated together.
