Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) in the parks

I just read on another board (non Disney) that Cinco de Mayo is CRAZY busy at Disneyland... is this true? That will be our 1st day in the parks. Is it considered a holiday in California? In Texas it is not...

It's not a holiday in the sense where kids get off school or people are off work. People do celebrate it and party though. But I don't really see how the parks could be super crazy busy.... Maybe if it was on a Saturday?

Well that's good to know! But maybe, just maybe they'll do fireworks for the day?.... lol I can dream right.

I hope so!! It's hard to say when RDCT will have it's last day. I'm sure it will be mid-May. The Disneyland calendar is only going up til, I think, the 3rd week in April, but RDCT are showing until then. They said "Spring", so I'm assuming and hoping until mid-May!

May 5th is my birthday and we will be going to DL too. I hope there isn't that much of a crowd.

We were there on May 5 two years ago and DL doesn't do anything special. Crowds weren't heavier or lighter that we could see either - it was fairly light, in fact. But the line for dinner and margaritas at Tortiilla Joes was WAY longer!! ;o)

I don't see why Disneyland would be busy, but for sure stay away from bars or places that have bars because those for sure will be busy! I wouldn't exactly call it an official Holiday. I wrote an essay last year for school explaining why it shouldn't be celebrated in the U.S. and/or how the Holiday should change to promote a more positive message. Has to do with Alcohol & Tobacco corporations but I'm totally off subject and not really right for the forum. My family is from Mexico and we have never acknowledged it.

Disney may have a little something, like Las Divas might come out to perform, unless they're only there during the summer?
