Hope I spelt those right:guilty:

I am looking at flights from Buffalo to Seattle for a Alaskan cruise next year and a few of the flights stop in different airports, the 2 mentioned above being some of them.

My question is some of the layover times (we have to change planes) are as low as 45 mins. How big are these airports, is 45 mins enough time to get from one gate to another?

I have always flown direct so not even sure but I assume that the airline transfers the bags to the new plane for our final destination???

ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Kim

What airline are you flying into Detroit? The NW, Delta terminal (McNamara) is huge. You would have to hustle. The other terminal (SW, American, etc) is not quite as big. That terminal opened last year and is very nice. You should be ok timewise. The other one oyu would be cutting it close.

CVG (Cincinnati) is not terribly gigantic. Your trek across the airport might depend on if you're flying on different airlines when you switch planes. I flew Delta through CVG once and the gates were right next to each other. Our flight was late, but they still got our bags from one plane to another just fine (we were flying to Honolulu, our layovers were CVG and LAX). Airlines usually keep their planes together in an airport. Yes, the airlines do move your bags from plane to plane. All you have to do is get from one gate to another.

ETA: I haven't flown into Detroit, but I just looked at their terminal maps, and yeah, McNamara terminal is huge.

However, they have a very efficient and fast tram that runs from one end of the linear terminal to the other (along with a stop in the center). Forty-five minutes shouldn't be a problem.

I would agree--45 minutes at DTW is fine provided your planes are on time.

CVG should not be an issue either with 45 minutes. We've done this connection with less than 45 minutes (and lugging two small kids and carry-on) without a problem. :thumbsup2

In general, connections are generated by the software to give you 'safe' connections.

Thanks all for the info.

It would be on the same carrier. Delta. Looks like it will be more Cincinatti then Detroit but nice to know all the option info.

Thanks again

Kim
