doesnt matter. just cover up what should be covered up.

My church is casual and much hipper than the church I grew up in. You can wear whatever you want. We like to dress a little nicer and I have to fight with DS every week not to wear his green and yellow swirly fake crocs to church. But hey...he loves church and no one judges you by your clothing there :thumbsup2 Sometimes we all wear our jeans though

No dress code at our church. I typically wear jeans and a tee shirt. DH prefers dress pant and a dress shirt but not a tie.

I am a pastor. I see some of everything. I suppose that part of what is important is the way we are clothed spiritually. Are we wrapping a mess up in a pretty package to fool ourselves, others or God?

Some of the nicest dressers are some of the harshest, most critical folks I know. That's just the way it has worked out during my fifteen years in the pulpit.

Shoot we even have a service called "come as you are." I am tempted to say, I don't care how they come I care that they come. But a little bit of effort is appreciated. It amazes me that the mom who comes with four kids, and who's husband won't help out becuase the game/race is on, makes it at all. I am not going to judge how she or the little ones are dressed.

How do I dress. Summer--dress pants long sleves and a tie (I can be 110 here).

In the winter--Robe and stole.

p.s. people who lead worship are not "on stage". Worship is not a show, concert, or performance of any kind. It is an offering to God not an act.

Oh wow your post almost brought tears to my eyes.We are a family of little means right now after hubby was laid off 3 years ago. I have long since bought anything new for myself so I figure if mine are clean & not torn I am lucky! We have only been able to keep up with the cost of clothes for kids and that often means 2nd hand stores.

ANYWHO... we all wear the best we can, and I have heard older folks whisper behind me that I should wear something other than dress pants and what are sorta dress runners <sigh>

Oh and the about worship being the way we honour God, right on. When the Choir sings at the front -- our organ & choir are in a loft at the back --- it is not uncommon for folks to clap. None of us do since we figure it is not a concert.

well Im on the youth staff and today I wore jeans and a sweater.

Youth pastor wore jeans and a button down and senior pastor was in khakis and a polo :)
I love my church

People wear all sorts of different things though. Some wear dresses some are very causal. Its a come as you are type deal I dont think God cares at all.

Attend a big Southern Baptist Church and we have no dress code. Our senior pastor was in khakis and a nice shirt, preacher today was in dress slacks and a polo, and middle school pastor was in jeans and a nice shirt. Interpreters (me and 1 other) were both in nice slacks and shirts. I wore my black Crocs and she had on sandals. Anything comfortable when you stand 45 minutes or more during the service.

I am of a generation that still "dresses up" to attend church, as a sign of respect. I'm sure God doesn't care one way or the other, but I feel it puts ME in the right frame of mind, ie, what I'm doing (public worship vs daily devotionals) is different than running out to buy groceries.

I guess I feel God is worth the extra effort on my part. Now, if I couldn't afford to wear something nicer than jeans and flips to church, that would be different. I know, and God knows, that I can, so I do.
This sums up my opinion.

Looking back to the old testament, we can see that the priest who was allowed to go into the Holy of Holys once a year had to go through a ritual cleansing before he could enter into the Lord's presence. He had to wear specific items, and he had to be physically clean before he could enter. The regular folks weren't allowed in at that point; however, when Jesus died, the temple curtain was torn asunder, meaning that everyone was now welcome. I take this to mean that we -- the regular folks -- should, like the priests of old, also take some care before coming into God's presence in His church each Sunday. It shouldn't be just another day for us: it's appropriate to take some care to be ready both physically and mentally before you enter God's house.

However, if you were a poor street person, and all you had was jeans and an old flannel shirt, as long as you did the best you could, you'd be pleasing God. Most of us, however, have been given much more and can "clean up" a lot better.
