Christmas is on a Saturday next year, we would like to go the Sunday before and depart the Sunday after Christmas. Is this a very busy week? Would it pay me to book the Friday and walk the reservation a couple of days. I work 14/7 and it not often I have Christmas week off and wife has been wanting to go there for Christmas for years.

That week will probably not be as busy as the following week but you should be prepared to book at your 11 month mark. I was able to book exactly what I wanted at 11 months from check in for this year for the week following Christmas which is one of the busiest in the year. I don't think you will need to walk the reservation unless you have some very hard to get room request such as CL at AKV or standard view at BWV or a GV. This will be our 4th Christmas week and it is great as long as you are prepared for the crowds.

That's sounds good! We don't have any special room request, AKV is our home resort and pretty much a 1 bed room with any view will do. Thanks

I was thinking of doing this as well. Just HOW busy should I be prepared for? I'm scared, but think it would be so cool!

It will be very crowded and get worse as the week progresses. However, unless you need a GV or concierge at AKV, you should not need to walk the reservation.

We vacationed at WDW for Christmas 2 years ago. The parks seemed to begin getting crowded on Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day at MK was insane. We arrived at the park via WDW transportation just a little after 7am. The line for car drivers was already out of the gates. The park opened at 7am to park guests but was not crowded a bit. We had breakfast reservations at Cinderella's Royal Table at 8:30am and when we left, shortly after 9am, all we could see was a "sea of people", walking shoulder to shoulder.
I knew of this in advance and already planned for us to spend the day in Epcot where it was not very crowded. Since I planned for the crowds, I scheduled us to leave the day after Christmas as all parks would be extremely crowded.

IMO, it's nice to be at Disney for Christmas once but in the future I will schedule our trip during early to mid-December.

We went last year December 18th - 28th. We arrived a few days early only because we wanted to do MVMCP. Starting Christmas day and forward it was busy everywhere. We arrived at HS at 10:30am on one day and all the fastpasses for Toy Story Mania were already gone. I told my kids not to expect doing too many rides in any of the parks. HS and MK were unbearable by the mid afternoon, by early evening I was ready to go! I think what you are choosing to do is perfect!

Enjoy...part of me wishes I was going this year. It is well worth seeing!!

In any of my past visits at that time of year, it was always good until Christmas day and then it seems that mayhem breaks out. We always try and do 5 days before Christmas and the go to the beach on the 26'th . I would use the 11 month window.

We are also thinking of going the week before Christmas in 2010. I was hoping to fly out on Thursday the 16th and fly home on Friday the 24th. Since we can only book 7nights at the 11 month window, do you think we will have problems getting the first night added at the 7month mark? Our home resort is BLT.
