We will be staying at the world this year from Dec. 17-31 and will be having Christmas in our room on the 25th. DS9 still very much believes in the whole Santa thing. He is very worried about having Christmas at WDW because he truly believes that the real Christmas tree makes the whole Christmas and Santa won't come without it:) He really wants to drive (20 hrs. each way) so we can pack in a tree:eek: We've driven many times before but never in Dec. so we have decided to fly. Now DS is very worried about his Christmas tree. How does everyone else deal with going at Christmas time? Do you celebrate before you go, after? Is there any place nearby Disney where you can buy small, real Christmas trees(like the farms they have here in the midwest? Or is it just easier to pack in a very small, fake tree in a suitcase and take it with? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

That's so cute!! He definately needs a tree for Santa!! :goodvibes
We've never done Christmas at Disney, but I think you'll be able to find a cheap one small enough to fit in a suitcase, and get some plastic ornanments for it fairly easy. Just look for one with hinged branches, or ones that bend flat. I'm sure the Disers here will have great tips for you!! :)

A year and a half ago after Christmas, I got a little fake tree for really cheap for my DD's room. I always think of it as the Charlie Brown tree, it's that tiny. And it has shiny green 'needles'. She loves it, has room for all her favorite plastic characters, and it squishes down in a tiny tube for storage. I'd show a pic of it if I had one, it's funny. :lmao:

Another idea is to ship a fake tree and decorations to your hotel room ahead of time.

And it was a BLAST. We only live 3 hours from WDW but it was still going to be tricky getting the presents there with out the kids knowing. My DD is 7 and DS is 4. We ended up getting the prestents to my parents ahead of time ( they live 45 minutes from the hotels) and they drppped them off at the front desk to hold for our arrival. DH picked them up from the desk on Christmas eve once the kids were asleep.
We did bring a tree, ornaments, and lights. Just a fake 4 foot tree. We put it on the table on the room and moved it in front of the window so everyone walking by could enjoy. We also brought extra lights to decorate the window and the room. It helped make it festive. Of course the Christmas stockings needed to come as well. One unexpected cool thing was in the morning we had big tire tracks on the wet grass in fron of our room. I told the kids they were from Santa's sleigh.

My concern was picking out gifts that would fit in the car on the way home in addition to all the other stuff we packed.

If I were you and can not pack the tree, then pick one up at the walmart that is off Vineland Road.

We flew to Florida a couple of years ago - flew in on the 23rd, home on Christmas Day - our kids still believed... here's how it worked for us:

Santa left a small (sized) gift - new games for their Nintendo game boys - and a note that said he knew we wouldn't want to bring all our Christmas gifts home on the plane, and he'd already stopped at our house, but wanted them to know he didn't forget them. We's had a friend come over while we were gone and set up Santa stuff. It was fun, when we got home, the boys got into their pajamas and I went in with the camcorder, pretending to wake them up - the time stamp on the computer was 3:00 pm!

WalMart, K Mart, etc. has the little trees with lights, decorations, etc. for about $20. I would just get it there and either give it to your mousekeeper or pack it and bring it home.

Just thought you should know, I'm pretty sure you can't have a real tree in you room. It violates the fire code. I know there is a florist there in Orlando that will do a fully decorated (Disney of course!) 3' fake tree and have it in your room when you get there. Check allearsnet.com for more info.

And also, last year there was a Christmas tree "swap" thread here on the DIS - DISers who brought a decorated tree for their resort room would hand it over the last day of their stay to another DISer and so on. It was all arranged by dates and resorts - maybe they'll have it again this year.

Here's a link to last years 2006 Tree Swap thread to give you an idea on how it worked:

You'd be surprised at how many people decorated their room windows with Xmas lights and cling decorations too!

Last year we flew to Disneyland for Christmas with a small 2 foot tree in DH's backbacking bag. I purchased a small pre-lit tree from Walmart for ~$15 and a small tree skirt for ~$1. I then packed them in his bag (he knew all about it). Our plan was to leave it at the hotel but we brougt it home with us. What I did as a suprise were stockings. I bought inexpencive stockings, cut out felt letters in everyones names, and glued a felt cut out of a Mickey hat. I then hung the stockings on the balcony door (stayed at DLH) with suction cups. The tree was on the dresser due to a lack of cordage.

Then one night "Santa" came (actually about 3 days early due to our travel dates...). Santa brought everyone Disney Pez dispensers, Tink notepads or the girls, Cars/Princess yo-yos, candy, and crayons. I did this for DH, DDs, Me, and a friend who came with us. Everyone liked it. We plan to do it again this Christmas when we visit WDW. I plan to set it up in the front window for all to see. This time I would just bring a small extention cord for the tree.

One year we brought (driving) a couple of the lighted trees for our balcony and put our ornaments on the potted plant in our room.

Last year we were going to be home by Christmas, but still wanted to decorate a bit, so I brought the small artificial Winnie the Pooh tree that I had bought after Christmas the year before at Lowes. It would fit nicely in a suitcase, but it wasn't really as cute as it looked on the box. I was glad we were going home to our "real" tree before the big day.

I think I would just pick up one after I got there if I were flying. Maybe a small fiber optic tree would be fun for a change.
