This year our extended family opted NOT to exchange gifts. I mean, who really needs any more "stuff" than they already have, right?!!!

BUT....we still want to do something small. I know the usual $10 gift, Yankee Swap those ideas.....but does anyone do anything a little different? I was thinking maybe a crazy sock exchange.......something we could take photos of and laugh about and maybe wear the socks that night during our family Christmas. And there are soooo many cute socks out right now......:)

Oh and I started this in the budget board.......because it has to be fairly cheap!! (I mean inexpensive!!;))

Will you get cold weather where you live? If so, what about a swap with a "warmth" theme: things like scarves, gloves, hats, blankets can all be bought inexpensively. Someone could do a basket with mugs and cocoa, hot tea, and coffee mixes, etc...

It is cold here! Those are some great suggestions....thanks for that! I think the socks maybe with some flavored cocoa would be nice! We always play lots of board games, so maybe we could drink cocoa in our new socks and play games!;)

We do a $10 swap with my family at Christmas. If there are any teens - college-aged kids an itunes GC is great. Bring an age-appropriate gift for each of your ages. I.e. we'll be bringing 1 male adult, 1 female adult and the itunes gc.

One of the male things we brought a couple of years ago was literally $10 of bungee cords. This was a very popular "swap" item. IIRC, we had a mixed package that was about $5, and then we got 2 "really" long bungee cords.

This year, for the adult female gift, I got a Penzies baking spice sampler. 2-different types of cinnamon, and ginger and nutmeg.

Obviously itunes.

And - don't know what the "guy" gift will be this year. Last year it was a 6-pack of a microbrewed beer and some pretzels.

Personally - I wouldn't do a sock exchange. In my family - that would be a waste of money. I like very specific socks. My DD likes very specific socks. DH also has his favs. while yes it would be fun and silly - also a waste.

I love the sock exchange idea! I have heard of ugliest Christmas sweater contests- but socks would be fun and affordable! And you would actually wear them again, unlike an ugly Christmas sweater. Last year, we did a board game exchange- maybe you could combine the 2- like have the kids bring games to exchange and the adults bring socks, or vice versa.....have fun with whatever you decide!

Thanks everyone.......I have heard of the "ugly sweater" before as well.....but I agree, we can wear the socks after....and they don't have to be ugly just "crazy".
I saw some cute ones at Penney's with Paul Frank designs, or there are lots of knee socks out this year, with fur trim!! Too cute!;)

We have done an "As Seen on TV" gift exchange. Things from infomerrcials. Love my Ove Glove!

We have also done a "Re-gift" exchange. Something from your house no purchasing allowed. This was actually nice and gave permission to re-gift without guilt! And nice when budgets are stretched!
