I saw a news story that said the average person will be spending 700.00 on Christmas gifts this year. Will you be spending that or more or less.

We will be spending a lot less then that.

I want to say I will spend less than that, but with 2 kids of my own, 8 neices and newphews and 4 seperates sets of grandparents I am sure we will go way over $700. I wish I could just skip xmas and go to WDW instead.

I am spending more than that but only because we are buying our oldest daughter a Macbook for Christmas. She's a senior in high school and needs a new computer for college next year.

:goodvibes In years past we have always come to about $600 but we have 5 kids to buy for :grouphug: We buy for my parents, my grandpa, 1 of my aunts (shes 15 more like one of my kids than my aunt), and my great aunt because they always buy big gifts for my children and my hubby and I :goodvibes We do not buy for my hubbys side they do not do Christmas together just Thanksgiving :goodvibes

This year we increased our Christmas budget to include i-Pod touches and LeapPads but we also started layaways instead of waiting till after Thanksgiving to start shopping which makes a huge difference for us since we do not own CCs :goodvibes

Kids Budgets:
DD9 $300
DD7 $300
DS5 $200
DD4 $200

Step Son $100 or less he doesnt spend Christmas with us and his mom doesnt want any of his gifts sent home so they kinda turn into DS5 gifts anyway

Family :
$25 or less on their gifts

We are not rich, we do not buy toys and random things during the year, they have small birthdays so Christmas is the only time we get to 'splurge'

I actually did the "other" because this year we are taking 3 of the 4 kids to Disney the week before Christmas as their Christmas present. So technically the cost is more than $700 BUT it isn't a normal year and it is counting as our vacation for the year as well.

Technically, way more than $700 as well.
So far I have spent $300 on my mom
$150ish on my pups
and still have a tv to get for my dad not counting the gifts I already got him
(tv $250ish) So that will put me at $700
Then I have to get my nephew the rest of his gifts. I've got my coworker done and my friend who also does my eyebrow waxing done.
For my coworkers this year I was thinking of having a holiday party at my house but am unsure. I may just bake treats and give them each.

However, the $700 isn't all coming from my pocket! I have had some gift certificates to use, thank goodness. And starting so early has helped me a huge amount!!!

Normally, I stay well under the 700.00. (or at least right at it) However, this year, we had a little extra money, so we went all out. :) (of course, I may regret going all out after Christmas LOL)

Our budget for Christmas this year is right around $700. We have 3 kids, 4 nieces/nephews, 6 extended family members, and 5 teachers to buy for, and we'll also buy gifts for disadvantaged kids in our town and Operation Christmas. We spend a lot less on Christmas for our kids than it seems most people do ($100-$150 per child), but we also take a nice vacation every year, which I don't want to give up.

See, stats like this are confusing. If you consider myself and my husband as separate people, then yes, we will probably spend about $700/person. If you consider it $700/family, then no, we will spend more. And while my kids are people, they don't have money, so will not spend anything.

Something about this makes me feel sorry for the stepson. If I were in this situation I think I would put the difference away for college for the step son if that is not already taken care of. I hope he understands the inequity, so hard to be a blended family.

I will be spending more than that on just one kid. Add in the nieces, nephews, parents, in-laws, employees, holiday parties, decorations and charities and it's a pretty eye popping sum of money.

I will be spending WAY MORE than $700. Easily.

:) This year I have done well and have only spent about $28 per person--parents, siblings, nieces and nephews and one exchange student. :thumbsup2 I have gotten some great deals.

I would probably say this to. Except I do all my husbands shopping, except for myself, so I would be more, and he would spend less, but it is his money to. Unless they are asking the primary Christmas shopper in the household, it is hard to do anything with those numbers.

We will spend $700-$800 on the two kids. Then there is a list of 30 something people to buy for beyond that....

Honestly, this year I don't even know how DH and I will afford things for each other let alone everyone else we usually buy for. This year has smacked us hard with personal and financial issues..... Thinking we are going to have to go homemade with each others gifts, and if the family members don't understand, too bad. I had to empty my Disney savings jar to put into the bank account for bills, oy! That made me sad, lol. Praying next year will be better!

That seemed like a lot but when I did the math of people I'm buying gifts for, it's probably going to end up near $700. I'd better start saving now!

SHEESH.

I spend about $25-35 per person or family, depending on who I'm buying for. We have rewards credit cards that I cash in for gift cards to use on gifts, so... I'm not sure if that counts toward actually SPENDING...

I'd say, with the gift cards we're at about $300-$400?? And even that seems high to me.

Hang in there
