Christmas Special Treats/Meals & Festive Food Reviews-What's Good, What's Not So Good

Today I had the Barbacoa Tamal de Res with Oaxaca cheese, tomatillo salsa, and crema from the Grandma’s Recipes festival booth in DCA. Flavors were great and the portion was pretty decent. The meat was a little dry in mine. I’d get it again though. It was tasty and filling.

We also ordered the fresh baked gingerbread cookies from Harbor Galley in DL. Holy COW!!! Those were amazing. Far superior to the Mickey gingerbread (which I love). We forgot to take a photo of those.

We bought some Mickey gingerbread from the GCH cart and didn't think they were anything special. I quickly ordered some Harbour Galley cookies and everyone loved those. We had dinner at Carthay Circle. The steak is always good. For that price ($75) they could add a side or two. It had a half dozen pieces of squash. The chicken was good but not worth twice what you pay for a half chicken at other restaurants in the parks.

Kugel mac and cheese was very disappointing. It was swimming in grease (when we get close to the bottom we saw a thick layer of oil) and did not have much flavor. Would not recommend unless we somehow got a dud.
Oh no! WE were planning on having that when we go, it was great 2 years ago! So sorry it was not good.

Sad to hear about the BF cake...Disney descriptions ALWAYS sound so good...I was curious to try this. THANKS for letting us know...Nancy, Dyff and Carla would not approve this! 😂😂
(sorry, am caught up in Holiday Baking Championship)

However, encouraged about the cranberry/orange...it stays on the list for now...
Oh my goodness, I was thinking the same thing...love the holiday baking championship shows...I am so hooked on the new Sweet one, wow what they can make!

CC is always overpriced but we love the atmosphere.

i always avoid the carts for gingerbread and get it at Jolly Holiday or Candy Palace counter; its prolly all the same but somehow SEEMS fresher at either of those places.

Hearing so many good things about the Harbor Galley ones, though...mixed reviews on the royal icing dip, though...

I bought one last year and couldn't believe how disappointing it was. A few years ago, I had one from the Starbucks in DCA that was spectacular and I thought it was going to be the same. I can't believe people are waiting in lines for the the one in the hotel lobby.

Prior to the current gingerbread Mickeys were the chocolate dipped ear ones at Pooh Corner. I used to buy one after smelling the gingerbread house in the Haunted Mansion. 🤣 I also don't think I ever had a chocolate ear bite because my family members would always bite them off. Who knew that they would never come back and I'd never get to try it? I'll have to try the Harbor Galley cookies when I go there in a couple weeks.

We go there for special occasions. The ambiance is nice and it was calm after being in the very crowded parks during the day.

The chicken comes with couscous. The pork chop comes with mash. The steak looks like this.
