Christmas shopping: who hasn't yet or is late getting started?

Have you started shopping yet?

  • Yes, I'm feeling pretty good right now.

  • No, I'm waiting for Black Friday

  • Kind of, I've picked up a couple of things, but not much.

  • Other - 'Cuz there's always an "other"

I'm kind of like this :confused3 at the thought that starting on Black Friday or later is "Late".

I Christmas shop in December, when the stores feel Christmassy and I'm confident my kid won't suddenly change in maturity before the next holiday. I do have a couple things picked out -- some pretty candles I saw for my mom, and I book I think my brother will like, but I haven't actually ordered either one.

I am usually well under way on my Christmas shopping by now - I like to spread it out over a period of time versus pouring out money over 6 weeks.

So far, we've purchased 2 DVDs for the kids... That's it. We never do much shopping anyway, but still, I feel so far behind!

Anyone else in the same boat?? :confused3

Ok Kwitch, this is just plain evil :lmao::lmao: How in the world do you get in gear this early? I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the left over holloween candy?

I've bought about half of DBF's presents, but only have planned everyone else's planned. I have to get on that!

Umm...other :scratchin

Getting ready for our trip has side-tracked me somewhat.

However, I'm completely finished...on paper...;):cheer2::sad2:

The premise of your question is that people should have started, I reject this and enjoy a special day christmas shopping.

Other.

Haven't started and there is NO WAY that I'll go out on Black Friday. Last year I started a week before and just did it all it one day. That's probably what I'll do this year too.

I haven't even asked my girls what they want yet.

I have bought one book for the child I babysit for and a few photo ornaments for my mom and that's it! I am waiting for my local teaching supplement next week to really start. When DS was younger, I used to be able to pick things up earlier, but at 16, he changes his mind a lot.

Fair enough... see I grew up with a family on a decent living wage, yet the ability of purchasing a lot of extras in a short amount of time wasn't feasible. We ALWAYS spread it out over time. Heck, after Thanksgiving, my parents and grandparents didn't allow any extra buying of anything just in case they had already picked up something we hinted at wanting. [and we never went out on Black Friday]

:rotfl2: I know... it's a sickness. I'm a planner!

A generous split of our Halloween candy goes directly to the student I assist. ;) As for the getting in gear already... that's why I feel behind. We haven't really had "fall" yet, and Thanksgiving is right around the corner - hence me feeling "behind". I need that buffer of "the cold weather is coming - it's time for the holidays". With the weather delay, it's hard for me to even THINK about Turkey Day!

Me too, yet, only 1 small purchase. I know exactly what we're getting for everyone, however the actual event of the purchase has.not.happened...

Heck, we celebrate Hanukkah which starts in less than 4 weeks and we haven't done any shopping yet
D'OH! [I guess that would fall under the Other category.] Sorry 'bout that...

:goodvibes Not necessarily should have - I just know I'm not alone with the others who try/like to get a jump on things. I like to be able to get a jump on things to make sure I can get what I want to give. Gives me time to research stuff too.

One year, my high school BFF mentioned she wanted a Tickle Me Elmo for Christmas (that was a couple weeks before Thanksgiving). That weekend, I bought one. Two weeks later, the news has is splayed everywhere of people fighting over them and bum-rushing the stores trying to get one. Heck, her mom found out I got one and was willing to pay me double for it to give it to BFFs little sister - as she wanted one too...

I am completely done. I am due with my 2nd on Dec 2nd so I started shopping back during the summer. My goal was to have everything completed by Halloween. I even have everything wrapped, my Christmas cards addressed and the house decorated. Just in case he decides to come early, I wanted to be prepared. Plus I imagine the nesting instinct helped a bit.
