I hope you guys can throw some ideas my way??

My family (well, the girls) have decided to do something special and MAKE our christmas presents this year. But I'd like some ideas other than what i've come up with (which are, photo frame decorated by myself (altho ideas on themes would be nice), calendars, cakes or biscuits - we are all on diets because of my sisters wedding next year)

Please help me!!!

Decoupage is always a good idea. I'm currently making a Scrooge McDuck wooden box and it looks great!

how about decorating a memory box for your sister's wedding? They could paint it, or decoupage wedding pics on a box and guests can fill it with memories, marriage tips, etc.

Ornaments are fun. One year we did clear glass balls and cut strips of scrapbook paper, wrapped them tightly around a pencil and stuck them in the ball.

I love the christmas ball idea. I have so many left from my wedding and tries the rub on and even the paint and well I have no talent, They were horrible,. I lost so much money on those. I will try the scrapbook paper one. :thumbsup2

I'm not sure how old your kids are,

Here are a few things we have done in the past.

They handed out these for cards to friends, I took a picture of them with their fist out, I printed them as wallets cut a small slit at the top and bottom of their first and then slid in a small candy cane

We mad Grinch Poop for the uncles :)
it's a simple recipe, oyster crackers, white almond bark, peanut butter and green food coloring (you can leave out the peanut butter if you want) heat the almond bark add peanut butter and food coloring then stir in oyster crackers, drop by teasponed clumps onto wax paper sprinkle with green sugar if desired and allow to set. Package into sandwhich or quart size ziplock bags and attatch label (it is a 4x6 image) fold in half and staple over the top of the bag

Each year my kids make ornaments for all their aunts and uncles and grandparents.
Last year we did handprints, Eliana's were snowmen on an ornament with this little poem "These aren't just 5 little snowmen, as anyone can see, I made them with my hand, which is a part of me, Now each year when you trim the tree you can look back and recall Christmas 2007 when my hand was just this small."

I can't seem to find the boys' ornaments,I cut out their handprints from felt, I painted one side to look like the images below on the shirt and the other side I decopaged a picture of them onto.

We made my DH this shirt

We also did Photo Coaster/hot cocoa sets for My Brothers, we got a serving tray at Michaels and painted that, then sealed it with clear coat. we got 4x4 ceramic tiles from HomeDepot and decopauged Pictuers onto them, put them along with some cute mugs and packets of hot cocoa in the serving trays :)

Wow thanks for all the great Christmas gift ideas! :lovestruc

I have low Christmas funds this year, due to being a single parent, and both of my sons being in college this year. My youngest is a freshman & my oldest is a junior in college $$$.

Which makes me an empty nester w/lots of time & $$$. I want to make gifts this year. I am taking this way cool match box ornament class this Thursday night at our local scap book store $15.00 plus $1.50 for match boxes. I'll attempt to post pictures here for all. I hope to make these as gifts for friends and family this year as well.

I lurk here often and decided I should start posting because I love to craft & create.

BernardandMissBianca,
Did you use double side paper, I attempted to make one of the balls made with scrapbook paper but once they were inside the glass ball they would unwind. :scared1: Do I need to cut the strips of paper longer I wrapped the strips tightly around a pencil. HELP please, I'd like to make some of these for gifts.

Thanks Bunches! Chris

You guys certainly do have lots of ideas. I love the xmas baubles - I tried to find some plain glass balls at the weekend but didnt get very far - so I will keep my eyes peeled as the xmas dec's are hitting the shelves now

I love the ceramic ideas. Perhaps i'll do a mug for coco for people and also coasters. Altho I have no kids so wont do hand prints because my hands will cover the whole thing he he

WOW~~ These items are great! I love the ornaments & plates & wish that my son was still a little boy....the hand print gifts are priceless!

The recipe actually came about.... we were making almond bark covered pretzels and ran out of pretzels and my 4 year old was "helping" and he put green food coloring in the almond bark and I had some oyster crackers so thought I'd throw those in there tomake some snacks for us, when I finished my Older DS said Mom it looks like Poop... Grinch Poop. Then when I came home I did a search for christmas Poop (I had done the reindeer one in the past with chocolate covered rasins) and found the poem for Grinch Poop and made up the cards to print :)
