I need advice. I thought I had DD's Santa gift figured out. I had decided to go with the Loving Family house and accessories. They have an older one of these at DD's Preschool and she LOVES to play with it.

Well, I have been getting Christmas catalogs in the mail and DD has been looking at them. She is totally not interested in the Loving Family House. She keeps going back to a Polly Pocket hotel/rollercoaster and the Dora house.

I was REALLY trying to avoid the Dora house because she might not even like Dora in a few months. I thought she could get more use out of the Loving Family house. Polly Pocket is just a "no" right now.

I want her to get something that she wants. I don't want her asking for Dora Christmas morning, you know?

So what should I do? Take back the Loving Family stuff? Get Dora? Keep Loving Family?

Scratch all of it and get the Bitty Baby from American Girl.

Thanks.

Edited to add: I know she is 3 and could change her mind tomorrow when something else new and exciting comes along. I also have been telling her she does not get EVERYTHING she asks for. It is a suprise what Santa brings.

Could you get Dora and return it if she doesn't like it in December? Have you tried talking to her about loving family....discretely...to see what she thinks.....maybe you could "help" her write a letter to Santa telling him what she wants.....I know that's whay my mom did when I was young....

Good luck with whatever you decide:)

Last year my daughter was 2 1/2 at Christmas.

She asked for a baby, so I bought a new outfit for Bitty Baby, wrapped her up and put her under the tree......

Along with about 15 other gifts.

DD opened baby, was thrilled beyond belief and couldn't have cared less about the other gifts.

My advice.....wait until closer to Christmas, see what she asks Santa for, and buy that!! That way, you won't feel like you've wasted a bunch of money! :)

You can always buy more toys later. Can you buy the Loving Family a little at a time??

I would buy what she asks for now, this way I have it. One of the worst things to have happen is the x-mas rush, when everyone seems to want what I need to buy and there's none left for me. Buy it now, and just return it after x-mas is she has no interest in it. This way your safe.

I would get what at least something that she asks for and a few things you think would keep her entertained for a while. It's not surprising that she loves something at school but has no interest in having one of her own. This has happened to us countless times with DD. Luckily we were able to return things like this. Some kids just make their minds up more easily than others. DD has known since the summer what she wanted from Santa.

One more bit of advice from a DM who has teens and has lived through the early years....just because they like and enjoy a toy, game, etc. at someone else's house doesn't mean you need to rush right out and get it for home.
I know--been there done that and it doesn't work. What's special at grandmas house or the babysitters becomes ho hum at home.
I'd say get the Dora and be done with it. And just get a few other presents, don't have 2 dozen others waiting under the tree.
I have a 3 yo nephew; 2yo niece and 6 mo nephew--their parents are going a bit the opposite direction, only buying small gifts, food items, etc. instead of breaking the bank. My niece loves fruit snacks and doesn't get them often--so one of the gifts I'll buy her is a box for herself.
Most of all, relax and enjoy the season for what it is--a time of family love and celebration of Jesus birth.
