We are heading to WDW the weekend after Thanksgiving --our first time at this time of year. :santa:
I am nervous about the weather being too chilly for our liking...we're coming from PA so I don't want to have to do the coat thing on vacation...but we want to see the world decorated for Christmas. I'm okay with trading off the weather (if we need sweatshirts, so be it) for the decorations and the VERY LOW crowds I am told we will encounter during our stay.
BUT now, I found out that the Christmas parade that airs on christmas day, will be taped while we are there. Anyone been there for the taping? Will it draw in more crowds than I was told to expect and what does it mean as far as restrictions in the MK?

Thanks so much!!!

Yes it is taped then, and it causes Mk to be quite busy. It films mostly Sat with Sun as an option if they need to. Generally getting into the Mk and down Main St is the biggest problem, but crowds are projected to be a 9 for that Sat which is very very high.

The weather in December is usually quite warm (upper 70s). Sweatshirts probably won't be necessary. I typically wear shorts all winter in FL.

The taping does draw a crowd - but it's mainly in MK and concentrated around Main Street and the castle. It's still nothing in comparision to the week before/after Christmas crowds. The lines aren't too long since most are watching the taping, not experiencing attractions. If you avoid MK on Saturday, you should be able to avoid the crowds.

Just stay away from MK on the taping day. Actually we were there one time when they were taping the show in front of the castle. They take like a million takes of it... so other than that area being crowded, the rest of the park was low lines.

Unfortunately you need to take your winter coat/hat and gloves. We go every year mid november and when it gets chilly, that wind is ugly. I live outside pittsburgh and it is ugly for us too!! Most days we just wore a hoody and short and took the hoody off around 1030am... but once the sun sets, you need jeans(even for the warm days) and you need to take a coat as the likelyhood of at least one super chilly night is high. Last year I even had to buy the kids a blanket(despite having our winter coats).

We've gone the week after Thanksgiving a few times and found the weather to be great. I bring sweatshirts but we've seldom had to use them. Of course, we are from NH so even what Floridians consider cold is warm to us in late Nov/early Dec.

We've been to the MK on parade taping day and would avoid it in the future. Also, expect it to be fairly crowded on Sat and Sun if you are arriving on the weekend after Thanksgiving - that is a very busy week. By Monday or Tuesday of the next week the crowds will thin out. But it is our observation that over the years "off season" has become more and more crowded. It seems like there really isn't an off season so much anymore.
