i thought of a cool idea for a centerpiece the other night...since i'm getting married in december, right before christmas...i was thinking of doing large glass vases or bowls filled with ornaments that have our wedding colors (chocolate brown and blue). i figure it would save some $$ compared to using floral centerpieces, and would tie in a little bit w/ the holiday season (even though the ornaments wouldn't be "christmas colors")

has anyone done this before, or does anyone know where to find some good pics of something similar? i'm trying to figure out the easiest way to get a bulk amount of ornaments..maybe buy the clear glass kind and then paint them? i'm not exactly the "crafty" type but i'm willing to give it a shot!

we'd only need 4 centerpieces since we're at ADH and only want 4 large tables on the dancefloor for the wedding party and immediate family. the other small tables will have maybe a votive candle or something else like that...

what do you all think??? is this idea tacky?

I think it is a lovely idea. You can just get the plain glass bulbs and decorate them using the paint pens which are very easy to use. You could also get some of those rub-ons (look here: http://www.iscrapit.com/DisneyProducts.html ) to add a decorative Mickey touch. Cheap and easy. That's my kind of wedding favor.:thumbsup2

I think I saw something similar in a Martha Stewart Weddings magazine. I think it is a great idea. In fact, I may have to "borrow" the idea seeing I am getting married in December too. As for where to buy them, I don't really know. There is a store in Frankenmuth, MI called Bronners that claims to be the World's Largest Christmas store. Their site is www.bronners.com. They do ship. Other than that, I would say you have to wait it out until the Christmas stuff comes out, which nowadays is like October 1st. :rotfl2:

I think this is a great idea!! If you can find glass bulb ornaments in your colors I think it would be beautiful to string them together in a wreath-type circle (you could use string or even a small craft-wire loop and thread them on through the ornament hook loop) and then put a large pilar candle in the middle of the wreath. I think that would look lovely!

That sounds like a beautiful idea! I actually do something like that for decoration every Christmas, following my mom's traiditon. I have a large cut glass bowl that was mom's and I fill it with old Christmas balls that are still pretty, but have lost their "hanging tops" and I use it as a centerpiece on our dining room table. It looks really pretty, especially when the light catches the shiny Christmas balls just right!
