Christmas Lights with Canon A520

Hello all! Thanks so much for your camera recommendations! I LOVE my Canon A520! The pictures all came out great, except for the pictures of Christmas lights. I had to use my mom's film camera for that. Any suggestions for what setting I should use next time?

I have a Canon A610, To shoot xmas lights I used the night scene w/flash. But you must have a steady hand or use a tripod. I tried night scene w/o flash but it seemed too dark.
