I'm planning a trip to my home town around Christmastime and have NO CLUE about the accommodations because we usually stay with friends and family. :confused3

This time I want to go the whole tourist route (minus the looking up at the TALL buildings  ) and remember someone posting about the Radio City Apts on 49th street. I'm looking for a suite type hotel in midtown.

Any suggestions??? TIA!

We are staying at the Doubletree in Times Square in a couple of weeks. It is at Broadway and 47th, I think. This will be our first time at this hotel, but with Hilton points, the price was right. And it is close to the theaters where we are going. I can give you an opinion when we get home.

We have also stayed at the Hilton on Avenue of the Americas, not suites, but very nice and convenient.

I haven't stayed at the Doubletree but it looks nice. It's a great location if you're doing the whole 'touristy' thing. My kids love staying in Times Square.

We recently stayed at the Millennium Hotel on 43rd and Broadway. It was a great location. The room that I would get the next time had a fabulous view of Times Square, but it was not a suite.

Thanks, everyone. I'm really looking for an apt not a hotel, just for another option. I kind of want to make believe I still LIVE there...

Hi Robin!
I bet you'd like the Abington Guest Suites @ the West Village - it's not midtown but it's right off the A/C/E/L in the West Village, and it's just absolutely beautiful, very apartment-inn like, much loved :)

My parents stayed at the Affinia Dumont a couple years ago. I believe it's on 34th near Lex, so not the heart of Midtown but not too far out of the way. It had a kitchenette and a living room with a sleeper sofa and desk and a separate bedroom. I think the rate was in the high $200s/night.

I think Affinia has more than just that hotel, so maybe there is something closer to Times Square if that's what you're looking for.

Both sound awesome. I had no idea that there were so many of these types of places! The only reason I prefer midtown is because I know that area so well but also know the 34th Street area and LOVE the Village. Okay, thanks for totally confusing me, guys!!

You may be too late for those apartments. I started looking for an opening a year out and kept checking back when we went. They were booked solid.

They actually did have availability for the dates I wanted!!! A two bed studio, no stove but that's fine. I'm soooooo excited!!!:woohoo:

Go to Fodors.com and go to the US Board and do a search. You will find a lot of reviews of Radio City apartments. I was tempted to book there due to the good reviews on fodors, but when I looked at online pictures, they looked kind of ratty. Post when you come back and let me know.

We stayed at Doubletree last July.. It was nice.. a little pricey, but we got some off by using our AAA discount.. but still around $400 a night if I remember correctly..

I cant believe I didnt take any pictures of our room, but I did take a picture from the bedroom window.. the view was an alley :lmao: but there was a man I kept seeing shirtless when I happened to look out several times..:rotfl2::thumbsup2

The best part is that you are right in the middle of all the hoopla:

and there is a pizza place right across the street.. if you come out of the doors of the hotel and take a right, cross the street and there is the pizza place.. if you come out of the hotel doors and take a right and take a right and cross the street and then as soon as you take cross on the other side walk to your right and just down the street there is a little convenience store that has a little deli in there and they have the BEST subs!! and they are only like $6 and are HUGE!!

I plan on returning one day soon and I think I will stay here again.. being right in the middle of everything was wonderful!
