My daughter, who will be 8 on Friday, is becoming difficult to buy for. We are getting her another American girl doll, but she has little interest in "toys" this year. She is getting some clothing. I just don't know what else tell others that she needs/wants. Any ideas? what are your 8 year olds getting? Thanks!

Some of the non-toy items that my 8yo has asked for are a digital camera, a watch, a jewelry box, and a clock radio for her room. Since she has recently shown an interest in scrapbooking, I'm planning to get her some simple scrapbooking supplies to go along with the digital camera. She'll also probably get a couple of movies. I just noticed that Beezus and Ramona comes out on dvd this week so I plan to get that one for sure - we both loved the movie. What about gift cards to the movies or something along that line? - Something to DO as opposed to more stuff.

Oh, DD also has an MP3 player that she got for Christmas last year and a couple of her gifts this year will be a gift card for music downloads and a speaker dock.

I know what you mean. This year my 8 year old doesn't have much interest in toys anymore either. She will probably be getting some things that she "wants but also needs", along with a few "just wants":

fuzzy slippers
a few American Girl clothes and accessories
backpack
a couple of gymnastics leotards
Pillow Pet
maybe a Wii game
maybe some kind of arts/crafts stuff (which she is totally into)
Scrabble board game
She like Claire's, so maybe a gift card to there

Great ideas that I had been considering! Just wondering if it was me or not. Going to get some book gift cards, (she loves to read) and art supplies......and yes, she mentioned a pillow pet. Thanks!!

Since she loves to read, you might want to consider an e-reader as her big gift and other family members could give her gift cards for book downloads or accessories like a light and cover. My oldest is getting a Kindle for Christmas as his big gift and my 8yo is kind of jealous but isn't quite ready to give up the American Girl stuff she's already asked for. She knows she can't have both. But she's been saying that this will be the last AG doll she asks for and will probaby want something like an ipod or Kindle or netbook next year.

Dd 8 is getting an AM girl doll, clothes and accessories for the AG, DSi, DSi games-club penguin & mario cart for wii, monster high doll, lalaloopsy doll, Justice clothes, board games, uggs, squinkies, and teacup piggies.

My 9 yo dd is also getting a pillow pet, new books, movies, a few Wii games, and a docking station w/ speakers for her mp3 player.

This is my 8 year old DD's list:

2 dolls - Nellie American Girl and Jenna Maplelea doll, a doll bed with trundle from Target, bookcase (actually a shoe rack) for the dolls and Sugar AG dog. This is her Santa gift.

American Girl clothes and Bitty Baby Clothes

Build a Bear - Bear and a couple of outfits

Moxie Snow Magic - 2 dolls, tent, and RC car

Teacup Piggy w/ an outfit

2 Barbies - Peaches and Cream, Rocker Barbie (the reproductions)

Books - I have 2 Christmas/Winter Magic Treehouse books but I may do those as Advent gifts for all of them and give her AG books instead.

Nana is giving her Felicity's foal and the riding outfits

Memaw is giving her a Justice Sleeping bag, Justice makeup bag with "novelty" bath stuff, and ?? Maybe the Cheerleader Barbies or Barbie clothes

As you can see, she is still pretty heavily into toys. However she does love bigger kids stuff too. She got a pink Nano for her birthday and has tons of Demi Lovato/Justin Beiber () on it. She uses it to do special effects videos as well which are pretty cool. The sleeping bag is because her age is just now getting into the slumber party age and the sleeping bag she has now is sort of babyish, I saw her kind of cringe when she got it out at her birthday (although the other girls were kind of kiddie looking too LOL) She likes to read so I know some form of books just not sure which I will go with. Also, she has asked for a couple of clothing items. Boots which we just bought her - it is already cold here and so she gets them early - and I think I will get her a denim jacket and some "skinny" jeans so she can wear her boots over them.

My kids must be "young" for their age LOL My stepson will be 15 in a few months and this is the first year he hasn't asked for some kind of toy. He will probably get Nerf stuff from his Memaw anyway, she isn't ready to give that up ;) My 11 year old DS has a few toys on his list but he won't (knowingly bwahahah) let me take a picture of him opening them.

Anyway, I would go with clothing, books, movies, video games if she likes those things. A cute wallet with several gift cards? Is she into hygiene yet at all? Bath and Bodyworks has some nice light scents that would be cute gifts and if she is interested in her hair then maybe some salon shampoo and a nice brush... a flat iron or curling iron? Of course, there are a few "toys" she might like - Monster High is geared to tweens so you might be suprised. You can also buy a coordinating line of diaries, notebooks, and stuff at Justice. Oh! And board games - you are never too old for board games :) I wish they still did the ones like when I was a tween (before we knew we were tweens LOL LOL) like Girl Talk and Bargain Hunter.

Bath and Bodyworks, of course!! She ivery into that! Actually these are very good ideas. I am not thinking straight since caring for a sick mother. I appreciate the help.:flower3:
