This is my 8 year old DD's list:
2 dolls - Nellie American Girl and Jenna Maplelea doll, a doll bed with trundle from Target, bookcase (actually a shoe rack) for the dolls and Sugar AG dog. This is her Santa gift.
American Girl clothes and Bitty Baby Clothes
Build a Bear - Bear and a couple of outfits
Moxie Snow Magic - 2 dolls, tent, and RC car
Teacup Piggy w/ an outfit
2 Barbies - Peaches and Cream, Rocker Barbie (the reproductions)
Books - I have 2 Christmas/Winter Magic Treehouse books but I may do those as Advent gifts for all of them and give her AG books instead.
Nana is giving her Felicity's foal and the riding outfits
Memaw is giving her a Justice Sleeping bag, Justice makeup bag with "novelty" bath stuff, and ?? Maybe the Cheerleader Barbies or Barbie clothes
As you can see, she is still pretty heavily into toys. However she does love bigger kids stuff too. She got a pink Nano for her birthday and has tons of Demi Lovato/Justin Beiber

rolleyes

on it. She uses it to do special effects videos as well which are pretty cool. The sleeping bag is because her age is just now getting into the slumber party age and the sleeping bag she has now is sort of babyish, I saw her kind of cringe when she got it out at her birthday (although the other girls were kind of kiddie looking too LOL) She likes to read so I know some form of books just not sure which I will go with. Also, she has asked for a couple of clothing items. Boots which we just bought her - it is already cold here and so she gets them early - and I think I will get her a denim jacket and some "skinny" jeans so she can wear her boots over them.
My kids must be "young" for their age LOL My stepson will be 15 in a few months and this is the first year he hasn't asked for some kind of toy. He will probably get Nerf stuff from his Memaw anyway, she isn't ready to give that up

My 11 year old DS has a few toys on his list but he won't (knowingly bwahahah) let me take a picture of him opening them.
Anyway, I would go with clothing, books, movies, video games if she likes those things. A cute wallet with several gift cards? Is she into hygiene yet at all?
Bath and Bodyworks has some nice light scents that would be cute gifts and if she is interested in her hair then maybe some salon shampoo and a nice brush... a flat iron or curling iron? Of course, there are a few "toys" she might like - Monster High is geared to tweens so you might be suprised. You can also buy a coordinating line of diaries, notebooks, and stuff at Justice. Oh! And board games - you are never too old for board games

I wish they still did the ones like when I was a tween (before we knew we were tweens LOL LOL) like Girl Talk and Bargain Hunter.
