Christmas Dinner question

We have been to WDW many times. This will be our first time to be there on Christmas Day. I am trying to decide where to eat Christmas Dinner. We would like to eat somewhere nice but also not have to worry about the park being to crowded to get in. I also have 2 teenagers who can be picky with what they eat. We have never been to the Brown Derby but I have read good reviews and thought this might be a good place to try for Christmas. I have also read that MGM is usually not to crowded on Christmas day.

Has anyone eaten Christmas dinner here before?

Suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Actually, we usually find going to Epcot on the "busy" days is a good idea. Lots of room for people to spread out. You can go to allearsnet.com (dining/menus). There your teenagers can look at the different menus and pick out something they think they would like.

However, if you want to stick with MGM-Studios, Hollywood and Vine would be a good choice for picky eaters. It's a buffet line with lots and lots of choices.

Check out the menus for the swan and dolphin. Last year they looked wonderful. They will be posted on the swan/dolphin website as the holidays near. They usually put them up a bit before thanksgiving.

We have attended special events at swan, and they do a fantastic job with the food.

We did Brown Derby for Thanksgiving dinner in 2003 and were disappointed with the quality of food. The only thing we thought was outstanding was the lobster/seafood bisque we ate. The traditional Thanksgiving meal was fair, in our opinion.

This will be our first time at WDW for Christmas day and we've been wanting to do the Gospel Brunch at House of Blues, so that is what we're planning for Christmas...a huge buffet with all kinds of foods...just like home for us. Plus, suppose to be some great gospel music, too.

I was hoping for maybe the California Grille, thought that might be nice for the fireworks. We're arriving too late in the day to think much about going to the parks, so thought I'd book dinner there, and then just go back to the resort to bask in the glow of the fireworks over Pleasure Island. Then again, maybe we'll just do Portobello or Wolfgang Puck's Dining room, since they're within walking distance to SSR.

This will be our third Christmas at WDW and we are planning on having breakfast with the Pooh family at the Crystal Palace and dinner at the California Grill and, with a bit of luck, those great fireworks!

BTW, while I know everyone's taste differs, I just wanted to tell you, momsgoofy, that we were not impressed with the Gospel Brunch and we did try it a couple of times. The holiday might be better though. The food was great but we weren't pleased with the short time we had to eat and the lack of opportunity in going back for more. We love gospel music and the performers were very good, but the volume WAS SOOOOO LOUD some people at our table actually left. I'm usually a pretty good sport, but I admit I got a bit cranky when my food was getting cold while they made me twirl my napkin over my head. (No, I am not mistaking HOB for WCC;) Again, you may have a wonderful experience...just wanted to share our experience.

We did LTT for Christmas as it is the nearest to a traditional UK christmas meal. We weren't disappointed.

Consider the Candlelight Processional with the dinner package at Epcot. We've only been at WDW twice on Christmas Day. Both times we did the CP and chose Rose & Crown partly because prime rib is our Christmas tradition (I've read prime rib is off the menu again though BTW....not sure if that is accurate). Anyway, the CP is a massed choir with a celebrity who narrates the Christmas story before each song. I have goose bumps thinking about it. It is so moving and beautiful. Epcot has not been too crowded either time.

We love Brown Derby too though. Can't help about the crowds.
