I just read the Christmas Day parade taping at Disneyland starts on Dec. 11 which is our last day at Disneyland. Are the park super busy? How will this impact our day there?

The taping is Nov 6-8, not the 11th of Dec. Dance the Magic has always called the taping the "Holiday Spectacular". In it is calls the dancers "Guest Cast Members". The event "The Merry Holiday Parade" from their page is a class they are running with workshops. It is not the taping. They would not remove the CHristmas tree in the middle of the holiday, and the tree gets in the way of taping.

Inside The Magic said the holiday parade will be in December, unlike in years past, and WDW will be filming in Nov. I haven't seen any "official" blog post or such, but Inside The Magic seems to be fairly reliable.

Here's something I found from this thread - Scroll to Nov 6th and Dec 11th 2015 for additional links.

like I said I think inside the magic has misunderstood Dance the magic s site. The name of the event has always been "Holiday spectacular ". They don't do a workshop that weekend as the parade fills ALL THEIR time. The event in Dec has workshops and other stuff. It won't be the filming. But their will be lots of kids and parents filling the hotels. Also note. The parade filming requires the tree to be gone. Which is why it is always filmed PRIOR to the start of holiday season. How many think they would put the tree up for 3 weeks. Then remove it for a weekend then back up.

Marching bands and dance groups participate in parades and other performances in the parks all year long. When it's the parade they usually march the route as a pre-parade.

Right. And there is workshops put on, and all sorts of interesting things.

Last year the actual parade was not filmed. There was other footage (Frozen-related stuff) that was filmed at DLR in November, so it's always possible that different things could be filmed on different days this holiday season -- and maybe not the actual Christmas parade (although the Christmas parade is going on through the entire holiday season).

I would just expect that the early November taping would make more sense because the holidays get so much busier the further they get into November and December, as well as the issue of the tree being in the way later.

it looks like i will be making a semi-last minute trip out and it happens to be the same time as the Christmas parade taping. I was wondering if anyone knows how busy the park will be or just how early people line up to get inside?

I am looking at hotels down the road that require the shuttle (or a long walk) i'm questioning if I should just pay a little more and stay right across the street so i can line up early.
Making the parade taping isn't a HUGE priority but if the park is going to reach capacity i'd at least like a chance to get inside first :P

Thank you so much!

Would taking a taxi or rideshare the morning of the taping be less money than switching hotels? If so, I'd just pay for that one ride and still save a little and use the shuttle the rest of the time.

Truthfully, I don't think the parade taping is going to cause Disneyland to reach capacity crowds; as far as I know, it hasn't happened in the past. In terms of where to stay, I always like to stay within walking distance just because it means having one less thing to deal with. However, depending on what's available and how much of a price difference it is, I would look into the cost of a shuttle/taxi/uber/etc. and see how much more it would cost to stay closer.

We still don't know if it's taping first weekend in November or December 11-13th as was reported out of Orlando. If it's the November weekend I wouldn't worry too much. The taping only affects Main Street in the morning and in front of the castle. If the parks are packed, it isn't because of the parade taping! This year every day seems packed! If it's the December weekend, there will be much higher crowds, but not because of the taping, there are several other things planned that weekend as well.

While I don't have any information about the parade, it's also possible that they're going to want to feature Paint the Night in this year's Christmas show on ABC (after all, it's new). So I wouldn't count on the parade taping only impacting crowds in the morning.

I just merged the two most recent Christmas parade taping threads together. Also, we have a whole Disneyland at Christmas/Holiday Season Superthread that is there for holiday season questions/discussion as well.

Also, I don't know what the crowds will be like for the taping this year, as this year has kind of been out of whack with the 60th anniversary, and the announcements of certain closures (temporary or permanent) after January 10, 2016, but last year I asked Nancy Johnson of DIS Unplugged to expand on what goes on for the parade taping in terms of crowds, etc. In this post, scroll down the the green text at the bottom -- that's Nancy's response:

Since I have done little planning for our trip coming up in December (we are going with friends who have made dining reservations), what all is going on the weekend of 12/12 - 12/13?

Possible parade taping, Raver days, the holidays, the 60th, Star Wars stuff, it's a weekend, etc... Nothing has been normal this year and with next year having lots of closures, people are speculating that December this year is going to be one of the busiest Decembers ever!!!

RaverDay is going on, for one thing (not an official Disney event) - https://www.facebook.com/events/1407419249587372/.

Season of the Force will be in full swing.

Also, something called Mele Kalikimaka Day 2015 (not an official Disney event) is happening - http://unofficialparkdays.com/event/mele-kalikimaka-day-2015/.

Plus, there are lots of closures happening after January 10th, some of them permanent and some temporary but long-term, so we assume people will come out for those things.
