Christmas cookie recipes

Not recipes but I will probably make:

Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie recipe (from an old BC book- circa early 70's), decorated with a simple frosting and sprinkles! The kids help decorate.

Thumbprint cookies w/ blackberry jelly in the middle

Pretzels rolled in chocolate and covered w/ springs (ok, not a cookie, but they're good!)

That's usually all I can manage. I'm a teacher so we have a Christmas break, but it is usually only a few days from XMas when we start.

I always make sugar cookies.. the HUGE shaped ones with frosting and sprinkles. I make them extra thick so they are soft. They're a lot of work, but soooo delicious. My whole family loves doing the decorating. If the kids had to choose whether to give up gifts or sugar cookies at Christmas, I think it would be hard for them to choose between the two.

For the first time this year, I'm planning to make gingerbread boys and girls too.

I'm also planning on making peppermint bark.

I make tins to give out during the Christmas Season. Last year I put in:

My special cookie (kind of a spritz)
chocolate chip
decorated sugar cookies
No bakes- my friend gave me her recipie with no chocolate
peanut butter blossoms
fudge- the yummy homemade hershey kind :cloud9:

This year I am leaving out the no bakes and adding Paula Dean's Monster Cookie. It is sooooo good.

I love Christmas so much. I can not wait.

Yummmm!!! I love reading these!

I ditto that I love Christmas season, too! Christmas day is cool, but so is the whole season.

My favorite has to be the butter cookie recipe I use...just has 3 ingredients that I remember...butter, sugar and flour. I make cut cookies from this...hmmm..now I feel like baking!

We were just talking about Christmas cookies at work today. It seems that when the temperature starts to drop (it was 48 this morning) my friends start to think about baking, mainly my baking for them.:goodvibes

My usual cookie list:
Peanut Butter Blossoms
Chocolate Chip
Oatmeal Raisin
Cream Wafers
Nut Rolls
Apricot Rolls
Peanut Butter Carmel Cups
Sugar Cookies
Pumpkin Logs
Thumbprints
Cranberry Nut Bread
Pumpkin Cake
Pecan Cherry Bread
Lady Locks
Mini Cheese Cakes
Peanut Butter Fudge
Chocolate Fudge
Buck Eyes

Wow, that seems like a lot, but not once you start to make packages for everyone.

You know, I really need to lose some weight & all of these Christmas cookies aren't going to help! :rotfl:

I always make a ton of sugar cookies. Then, during the Saturday before finals I have the college Sunday School class come over. The house is open all day long for cookie decorating, watching Christmas movies & just relaxing. I encourage them to decorate cookies to share with room mates & friends too. This year I may have to try some of these other recipes so that they can share them too.

Any suggestions as to which cookies are easiest to make & keep in the freezer? When baking frozen cookies do you have to thaw them out first or do you bake a little longer or what? Thanks!

I usually do a few dozen, mostly to give away to neighbors and co-workers a I do keep some around the house for the fam to munch on.

Sugar or butter cookies
peanut butter w/ Hersey's kisses
oatmeal butterscotch
chocolate chip
thumbprints
white chocolate covered pretzel rods w/ sprinkles

Do you ladies ever participate in Christmas Cookie Swaps/Exchanges? I attended one (a total disaster) many years ago but my mom always went to a swap a week or two before Christmas. She had a ball and she would always bring home a huge tray LOADED with all kinds of delicious cookies. We would all pick from the tray and Mom would always put the cookie tray on the dessert table on Christmas Eve.

My cousin had a cookie swap a few years ago but it was bad because all of the guests made Chocolate Chip cookies ... and the chocolate chip cookies were from either the Pillsbury slice and bake tube or from the pre-packaged Betty Crocker/Duncan Hines mix. One woman actually bought a bag of Chips 'Ahoy and arranged them on a plate. I was the only one who made homemade decorated cookies.

I'm not great at linking, but there is a wonderful site about how to host a Christmas Cookie swap (includes the "rules" of the swap) and there are great Christmas cookie recipes on the site, too:

Oh, I was just starting to think about what I'd bake this year - I love preparing for Christmas!

Here are my usuals:

Chocolate chip
Oatmeal raisin
Grandma's Spritz (my grandmother's recipe and they get dunked partially in melted chocolate and then rolled in chopped nuts or sprinkles - YUM)
Peppermint Bark
Pretzel wreaths

In addition, I try one new one that sounds appealing and my hubby picks one that he would like me to make.

Simple, simple cookie and good for those who have to avoid flour. 1 cup peanutbutter, 1 egg and 1 cup sugar. Mix together and form into small balls. bake at 325 until firm. Grammy
