Christmas car rental at Sanford Airport

I booked tickets to send my wife and daughter to our condo after Christmas for a few days (Dec 28-Jan 2), as a surprise gift. Now I'm seeing car rental rates at about $100 per day, best rate I found so far was through Costco, but thats still over $500 all in. I spent last week in Florida and my total cost was $109 USD. I realize it's peak rental time, but the prices are extreme. Anyone aware of better deals out there? thanks.

Are you doing PU and Drop at the same location? I was looking for a rental from MCO to drop at another Orlando location a couple of days later, and the rates were outrageous with all of the majors. As soon as I set the Pickup and Drop to the same site, they came right back down from the stratosphere. Of course now two of us have to drive to the airport and back to make the drop, but that's the price you pay (er, or don't pay as the case may be)...

Yes, picking up and dropping off at Sanford. The best rate I've found so far for a 4 day 13 hour rental is through Costco, at about $480 Cnd (that's four times what I paid last week for a 6 day rental at MCO). I think because the off terminal rental sites near Sanford airport are not open during the days/times the flight comes in, options are limited and the gouging begins. If this trip wasn't a gift, I would take a hit on cancelling the plane tickets and cancel the trip. Oh well, will have to keep looking. Thanks for the reply. Cheers.

Through Budget using BCD x474200 (travelocity leisure code) and Coupon UUWZ020 for free upgrade. Difficult to find another coupon since no saturday stay. Total $268 for a midsize with free upgrade to full size.
I would try bidding on priceline since you can save $$. I got a full size last Christmas for 8 days for $221 inc taxes. Rates were over $400 everywhere. Tip: Ignore suggested bids by priceline.

Many thanks! I had tentatively reserved through Costco at $415 USD, just in case prices actually rose. I've now reserved through Budget using the code you provided at $268USD, which I can easily live with. I will keep trying Priceline occasionally, but they recommend I try a price closer to $105 per day! Ha!
