This is the beginning stages of a trip report. I’ve struggled putting this schedule together. DH booked those Storybook and Rose & Crown ADRs, can’t move them. Kids wanted to do JN and WWD. SIL is more about hitting lounges than rides, lol 🍹🍾:drinking1and the kids will join her, both in their early 20s. She’s asking for a special something to do with them for Auntie bonding time and finding that has been a challenge. So these are the 4 questions I need help with:

1) SIL is Turning 60 during this trip. What activity might work well for her and the two 20yo’s that’s fun and fits in the schedule (like Sangria University being only weekends didn’t work well)?

2) HS Day on Mon 11/18 - Can’t decide whether to go in the morning, break from 1-5p and then go back and finish with the late night at JN. Maybe it might be better to sleep in that morning, get room service breakfast, hit the pool, enjoy the resort, stores, Enchanted Rose Lounge etc and then go to HS around 1-2p. The second one sounds better, right?

3) This is our first real stay at VGF. It feels like a dream come true! We want to do one nice meal either Narcoossee’s, Citricos or California Grill over at CR. It would be our first time for any of them. I’m just burnt out trying to fit all of these plans together and can’t decide which one and a good time within our schedule. Any recommendations? I’d really appreciate it.

4) SIL 60th Birthday - I might order a cake from Grand Floridian. Or any recommendations on a room surprise? Or maybe I’ll book the Spa for us instead. What sounds good?

Thank you for getting this far. We are now very excited with less than 60 days out :smickey: I need help getting these last details wrapped up this weekend. TIA for any info.

That’s what’s Touring Plans has to say about crowds this week. I circled our Park reservations. The squares we are hopping 4pm or so.

TP does a good job. I love using their day plans and room finder/request. Sometimes I don’t agree with a CL prediction and in this case it is HS on Mon 11/18. That day is an MK non-party day and EP is an EEH day, both will draw attendance to those parks, and HS is closing an hour for JN which will drive some people in another direction. I’m saying CL 5, maybe even CL 4.

What a fun trip!

1) What about Savor the Savana on your AK day? https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/events-tours/animal-kingdom/savor-savanna/

2) Agree - option 2 - sleeping in and making your way over later in the day sounds better.

3) While they’re all fantastic choices I’m going to have to go with California Grill. I know some folks will say it’s lost a bit of its luster but I’m not in that camp. I took my best friend and her family there for their first time and they absolutely loved it (and they are quite the foodies)!

4) I’ve never done this before but heard good things - could be something unique to help bring in 60!

That’s a great idea - thanks for posting the link too :) Saved me the trouble and I see 3:15pm - that would work fine on Sunday. Thank you!

Oops - I missed 2 thru 4 last time lol

Yeah the more I think about HS being such a long day, it won’t work well getting up too early. And then it gives us a chance to explore the resort too.

I’m so happy to hear California Grill. My son and I were very interested to begin with, we just need to convince the others. Your endorsement helps!

I really want to rent the pontoon but it seems nobody is as excited as me. Maybe I’ll surprise SIL though, and we 2 girls go out while the guys do their thing. Driving around 7 Seas and MK is a fantasy. DH and I tried it last December and I forgot my ID so he had to drive the whole time and his hands froze - whoops. But it was gorgeous and something my SIL might really enjoy.

+1 — I was thinking of recommending this or the even later starlight safari (I think it’s called?)
Another option would be top of the world lounge (if you have a Y card, which I vaguely recall you do), but recent reviews seem mixed.
2) Agree - option 2 - sleeping in and making your way over later in the day sounds better.
The only thing I’d add here is the new LL system punishes you for sleeping in, but if you aren’t going to use it anyway or only want 3 rides, NBD.

I thought of this too, especially if you book it on a Christmas party night and can stay there late enough for fireworks (10pm).

We did a fireworks cruise on NYE last year at Epcot and it was spectacular— highly recommend it (and there’s a DVC discount, lol). Another option would be to do a firework package or VIP tour (it does say “you can never spend enough” right there under your username).

Ahh the starlight safari. I wonder if she looked at that one. I showed her Savor the Savannah and she cringed at the price - $500 for the 3 of them. Last time she came with our family she took them to tea at Grand Flo for $100 all in lol. Wish that was back. I had given her the option of doing TotW lounge with them alone as something special but she passed on that one. So I booked us all Wicked Wind Down :) She’s hard sometimes, wants to know every single option that ever existed before choosing haha.

HS - you all have helped me see the light here. I was worried it might be too early in the trip for a half rest day. No - it’s perfect!

VIP would be sweet. I don’t drink enough kool-aid for that one though  The fireworks cruise sounds good. That could work. I’d have to talk DH out of doing AK EEH first, which I’m surprised he still wants to do since we’re doing AK MM the very next night 🤷‍♀️

Yikes, I was going to suggest Wild Africa Trek, but it's even more pricey! But hey, YOLO!

This looks like an ambitious but very fun week!

If it were me, I would definitely take off the morning of your Jollywood Nights day.

I vote for the spa for the birthday. At least, that would be my wife's choice :)

Another (slightly more cost effective) option - though not sure if/when you could squeeze in Disney Springs. There’s a cool cake baking class I’ve been wanting to try. It’s $199 for two people (I’m wondering if they offer a reduced price for a 3rd)

On the plus side, you walk away with a yummy cake so you may not have to order a second.

Thanks. Yeah I noticed all the AK events have gone up in price. It seems like only a year ago Savor the Savanah was under $150pp.

The spa is looking more likely as my gift to her. Can’t beat the convenience while at VGF either. And she loves that kind of thing too!

This might be it! She ended up not being able to join a trip we took last year, and she had that picked out as something for them to do together back then.

It’s too bad Epcot hasn’t added their festival classes back yet. But the cake experience could be alot of fun for them.

Keep us posted - would love a first-hand account! 🙂

(And agreed the EPCOT classes were such a blast!)

So why not post under trip reports?

This isn’t the trip report yet. It’s the planning strategy for the parks/resorts.
Sometimes posts would fit into multiple boards. This could fit into the Pre-Trip planning on the Trip Report Board, or the Disney Planning for personal trips here in the TPAS subforum, or here in TPAS because is asking for tips and strategies.
