The third time wasn't a charm for Christie Brinkley. The fourth go-round apparently didn't do her any favors, either.

The former supermodel and architect husband Peter Cook have announced plans to split after 10 years together. It's Brinkley's fourth failed marriage.

The news was confirmed Wednesday by her publicist, Elliot Mintz.

"Her immediate concern is for her children, and she's hoping during this difficult time that people will be kind enough to respect her privacy," he said in a statement.

The 52-year-old CoverGirl spokesmodel had one child with Cook, eight-year-old daughter Sailor Lee. Her soon-to-be ex hubby also adopted Brinkley's son, Jack, now 11, when the duo first tied the knot in September 1996. The boy's biological father is Brinkley's third husband, developer Richard Taubman.

Brinkley also has another child, 20-year-old daughter Alexa, with ex-husband Billy Joel.

Brinkley and Cook, 47, have spent the last decade in their Hamptons home, designed by Cook himself. No word on how the duo will split their considerable assets.

Brinkely has had a prolific, if not entirely successful, romantic history.

Her first trip down the aisle was with French artist Jean Francois Allaux and lasted from 1973 to 1981. Her marriage to Joel lasted slightly longer; she served as the muse for his hit song "Uptown Girl" and Brinkley returned the favor by painting the cover of his 1994 album, River of Dreams.

The professional poser tied the knot with Taubman in 1994, nine months after the real-estate mogul and model survived a near-fatal helicopter crash. The union didn't last long: Brinkley filed for divorce in 1995, just two months after the birth of their son.

She's not taking any time to feel sorry for herself.

Brinkley signed a multiyear deal in 2005 to return as the face of CoverGirl, this time for their Advanced Radiance line for more mature women. She previously served as the makeup line's face from 1976 to 1996, believed to be the longest running cosmetics contract ever signed by a model.

It's going to take me some time to decide if I care about Christie Brinkley's love life or not.

Oh NO. I just read an article in a woman's magazine (not sure how old) about her and him and the new furntiure business they were going to start. :guilty:

This makes it sound like she's found husband #5 already! :rotfl:

I do have to admit I was shocked after reading this since I had just seen her on a talk show a few months ago and she was talking about how wonderful things were at home.

I'm sure for her, it can't be easy for a potential significant other coming into a relationship with her separating "Christie Brinkley" from the everyday person Christie Brinkley. Does that make sense? This is JMO.

Call me naive but I just can't imagine walking down the aisle 4 times (I also believe she was engaged to be married to someone else between Marriage #1 and #2 but if I recall he died in an accident). She must be in love with being in love. I do feel bad for the children though, and I do hope for their sake they can keep things as normal as possible for them.

It always seemed like marriage #3 was just because they'd been in the crash together, almost a rebound thing. I don't know about the others though.

I like Christie. She always seemed like a nice person to me.

Let's take bets on Marriage #5. I think she'll be married again by December '07, and divorced again by May '10.

I just can't believe she is 52! She still looks great!

That's too bad. Every interview and such that I have ever seen or read about her makes her seem pretty nice and down to earth. This guy seemed to be the one for her...they seemed to have a lot of commonalities, the same ideals and so on.

I think I also read that her elderly parents are sort of ill and live far away...maybe like California. There may be a lot of stressors in their life that we don't know about.

I think I'd quit if I were her. Four times is enough.

Yeah, I think she's addicted to marriage. Although probably #1 (which ended because of the guy's death) and #3 were definite "mistakes." I think she's just one of those ones that can't stay with the same guy for too long.

Wasn't she engaged to the heir to the Moet and Chandon champagne empire, and he died in a race car accident or something? I may be delusional though... :confused3

At what point do you say enough? I agree with the thought that she is in love with being in love.

I think with four marriages under one's belt, you should maybe start exploring why this keeps happening (minus any marriages that ended because of death, the reason is known for that).

I think that was hubby #1. I think they actually were married for a short time.

Hmm. I have not yet read anyone complain about Christy other than her husbands. Do you think she picks the wrong guys or do you think it's her? Probably her choice in men - they do not satisfy her.

I like her, her husbands, well, I couldn't care less.

I hope that article had a typo in it- it listed her as marrying her 1st husband in 1973- if she is 52, she would have been only 15 when she married!

Hope she takes some time to recover before she starts dating again.

***EDITING!!! Sorry- I can't add. She'd have been 19- still awfully young, though!***
