Christian Pulisic (USA soccer captain) is getting death threats after the AC Milan vs Lazio Serie A match. What a sad world we live in.

To put this into perspective, his team won fairly and Lazio fans are mad about it. Lazio had 3 team members expelled from the match and they have a history with Benito Mussolini (his great grandson plays for the team too but has no connections to his great grandfather's politics).

It's because Lazio was going hard at Pulisic the entire game and he definitely got one of the Lazio players red carded and possibly the second red card. But the Lazio squad was out to hurt/take him out of the game.

True but death threats are never okay period.

I know. But it's a down side to European soccer that thankfully we rarely deal with in MLS or USL.

I agree, also the racism in european soccer is pretty dang bad.

However, and I'm not at all saying it's right. But these teams are like life to these people. Lazio was founded in 1900. So for 124 years these families that are from Lazio have lived and died by their team. On one hand, it's what makes it so great, but it also makes it over the top serious to many of them.

There are VERY few USL or MLS fans that live and die by their team. Maybe if they made some relegation/promotion as part of MLS and incorporated USL but they wont.

Yeah I get the passion difference. I've followed soccer since I was 3 (but not seriously until high school). The pro/rel argument is really a non issue in this case. I disagree MLS and USL are fair weather fans 90% of the time. I would still support NYC FC if they dropped down to USL Championship. Soccer enthusiasm is growing at a rapid rate and will increase 3x faster in the next 3 years leading to the 2026 WC. This is not 1970. 50 years later we are finally a soccer competitive nation.

It's also the money and jobs that can be lost from relegation that causes the the threats and violence. It's another reason not to have pro/rel honestly.

I'd disagree. They've been doing relegation promotion for decades upon decades within every league around the world.

I'd argue the MLS is pretty much all about money for the owners and they don't want to deal with relegation. I mean afterall, the MLS allows 18 of 29 teams into the playoffs. That's crazy, imo.

It goes both ways. Parity may limit talent and risk but the money is safe and investment in the sport is still guaranteed to grow. Pro/rel has hurt the Mexican league and smaller leagues in Europe in general. Pro/rel has created uncontrollable spending in Europe with super clubs becoming the norm and the competition becoming less. I'm not saying there isn't a greed element in MLS and that MLS owners should be required to invest more than the minimum but in the modern world will that ever happen? Just look at the current US Open cup controversy. Sports is now about money and eventually the US model will be applied in Europe (with FIFA's approval), no matter what UEFA thinks.

I'll agree to disagree on the MLS model or US Model ever making it's way to the top leagues around the world. It's centuries old and it isn't going to change. I would like to at least see the MLS changing the playoffs so it's maybe 8 total teams vs the 18 making the playoffs.

I agree the playoffs need to change. It should be a knockout round like before with the top 8 from each conference competing. As for pro/rel, it's a dying system. Within 50 years it will be gone or severely changed.
