Christening Gift? I'm the godmother!

My cousins are having their son's christening soon and I'm his godmother. I've not been to a christening since my little sister was christened when I was five. I'm assuming I should get him some sort of special gift, but I have no idea what to get. Help!!

Well it really depends. In my family, the godmother usually buys the outfit and a cross/chain. Not sure if that helps.

For my godchildren, I have purchased a cross necklace and made a donation to their college funds. My sister and I are godmothers to all of each others children and did not need to purchase an outfit, as they have all worn the one my godmother gave me for my Christening (that all my siblings also wore).

You are in NJ - I would suggest a religious item (any chance he has the same name as a Saint - a medal would be nice), and a check. Most people just give a check, but you are his Godparent.

I gave Disney Stock to my godson also. His parents love it, it was the only thing that actually got hung up right away in their house.

When my children were Baptized we received mostly savings bonds. One of my favorite gifts though was a personalized cross. It hangs in my DD's room, and has for 8 years! I believe they got it from a website called personalize this. Good luck with your decision.

In our family the christening outfit is a family heirloom. My child wore the same gown that I wore, and that my siblings wore. If he has cousins they will wear it too.

WE do something a little different. We give the child a build a bear with the recorded message inside that says, "Jesus loves you __________." We dress the bear in some special outfit. They have been well received!

LOL, that is what I got my goddaughter too. I did also get her a gold cross. I would have gotten her the outfit, but her mom had her gown made from her wedding dress when her first child was baptized and given the sentimental nature she wanted her other daughter to wear it as well.

In our family, the godmother-to-be usually gave the christening gown during the baby shower.

You cannot go wrong with a baby Bible and a check or savings bond. I think the idea of Disney stock is cute.

We go very non-traditional -- we give the baby the Fisher-Price Little People Nativity set. I figure it's religious yet practical -- hopefully it will keep the little one away from the real set when the time comes! They have a Noah's ark set as well.

You used to be able to buy the Nativity set online year round, but it's been a while since I've been a godparent or even to a baptism.
