We're debating on whether to select VGC or BLT as our home resort. We live in California, so the VGC would seem to make sense. But given that the VGC is the only DVC resort on the west coast, and the fact that there will only be 50 units, we're worried that booking a vacation at the VGC will be difficult, even with the 4 month advantage.

Any thoughts?

The conventional wisdom is that you should always buy where you want to stay. BEcause of size, it will probably be easier to get BLT @ 7 months than VGC would be. If you will be visiting DL more often than WDW, I'd buy at VGC to give yourself the best odds of staying there. Keep in mind that they can only sell enough points to completely fill the resort each year. So, if you book @ 11th months and are at least somewhat flexible with your dates theoretically you should be able to stay there (I hope! That's why I bought my add on there...). If you plan to use DVC mainly @ WDW, I'd buy at BLT.

I think that's a rough choice. If you can take advantage of home resort booking then I'd pick VGC. If you generally can't book between 7 and 11 months, then I'd pick BLT.

I think VGC, once sold will be tough even for us owners. I have a small add on, but I really dont want to fight for 11 month bookings that hard so I agree that ownership there will be very challenging even with the best planning

The good news is, you live in CA and Disneyland is set up much different than WDW.

I think it is easier to stay offsite at DLR than it is at WDW, so BLT would allow you to have walking access to MK and you could still use your points to stay at the other Disneyland Resorts albeit at a higher point rate, but you could end up in that situation even if you owned VGC.

If I add anymore it will be at BLT, VGC is just not big enough to give me any kind of booking confidence!:thumbsup2

Have you considered buying two smaller contracts instead of just one? That would allow you to bank and borrow and be able to book either at 11 months using the points from that resort.

I think we will end up doing just that. Being that we live in CA, we don't spend too many days at DL, therefore, we wouldn't need too many points for a short stay.
