How do you pick? Dis recommends one, Mousesavers recommends another... how do you pick the right one?

I personally don't use one but if I did, I would make sure it was someone I trust. I remember reading the boards here not too long ago and seeing maybe people get upset because their TA was on vacation when free dinning came out.

I normally arrange everything myself because I am a control freak :)

But I use travel agents if they can get discounts I can't. My upcoming trip was booked through 2 different travel agencies - the hotel and park tickets through one because they had an agency exclusive deal that saved a bundle and the cruise through another agency who offered on board credits. I found one on here. They don't let you name other travel agencies but sometimes you can figure out who folks are talking about :)

If I were going to need a TA to book ADRs or pounce on Free Dining then I would be clear about that up front, as some seem more knowledgeable and proactive than others.

I have never used a travel agent for our WDW trips. When you plan the trip yourself I think you comprehend so much more and there is a lot to know and understand about a Disney vacation.

Yeah, we went with not using one. I picked one and then she knew less than I did about a crucial piece of the plan. By the time I had to pick up the phone and call Disney to verify that I was right, it made more sense to just book on my own.

I used to use AAA to book mine since I'm a member. But now they have made it so easy to book ADRs and FP+, I'm thinking about not going through them anymore and booking myself. You get a package of discounts through them, but not anything off the rooms.

I notice your last and next trip are at POR. Tell me it's wonderful! :) (I just booked it for our very first WDW trip.)

I'm glad to hear that. I'm soooo nervous about "getting it wrong." This is probably a once in a lifetime (or once in a very long time) trip for us.

I found it very peaceful and relaxing, which is what we were going for :) I hope you have a magical time and that you are able to go again at some point!

I've been doing a lot of reading here and am finding that the only way to get any "deals" for the cruise line seems to be via an agent. The rates are the rates and some agencies seem to be able to offer stateroom credits. For all of WDW trips though, we book ourselves direct. Control freaks ;-)
