Uuugggghhhhh!!!!! :headache: I need a new cell phone. How do you figure out which one??!!

I have an old flip phone with a camera. I really want one more for phoning than texting. I'll probably text more often in the future, but can't see myself mostly texting. Would probably still like a camera. Don't think I need a smart phone. I'm home most of the time, don't need "Apps to go", got my computer. :rotfl:

Tried reading reviews on the Verizon site. Made me even more confused. :headache:

How do you decide??

We just picked new phones with Verizon. It's a pretty long story, but in the end, we settled on Cosmos Touch. We text a lot, so we definitely wanted a full keyboard. But we did not want smartphones. The Cosmos Touch just has a basic 1.3 mp camera, which is not great, but we have a really nice "real" camera so I don't think it's a big deal.

Verizon doesn't offer all that much if you just want you phone to be a phone. If you look under Feature Phones that is where you get that... even still some are set up for texting a lot. A friend of mine has the Casio G'zOne Ravine and he likes it. Its a pretty rugged phone and apparently is waterproof. We test this with a pint of beer and though unscientific it worked after sitting in it for awhile... Any LG is good. IMO. I feel they have the best battery life and my best phones (those that last the longest) have been LG's.

Sorry if its not much help but its a start. ...Maybe?

Thanks! That is one I'm looking at. How is the actual phone part? Any problems with calls dropping, etc? Thanks!

I love my IPhone. I really don't know how I lived without it. :flower3:

I stalled off getting a new phone because I knew Verizon was getting the I phone. But now it just seems silly for me to get one. I know I'd never use most of the features. But I just might check it out in the store. Again, how's the audio on it? Thanks!

Thanks for the info! I just spent over an hour on that site & made me moree confused. Such conflicting reviews! Glad to hear you have had good luck with LGs. I wish the stores had a better selection. Hard to decide online. :sad2:

Thanks to you all!! :)

I'll let you know on Wednesday when I get it! I use phonearena.com for reviews, and that was how I picked the Cosmos Touch. Plus, there is a limited selection of feature phones with QWERTY keyboards that do not require a data package.

My mom is getting an iPhone (she should get it on Wednesday, too). As much as I would love to have one, I just can't justify it since I know I don't "need" a smartphone at all.

Get one with a Qwerty keyboard for texting and a camera, for just in case. That will be my next upgrade.

This year I went to all the stores to look then went home for reviews and bought the exact same phone from Walmart online for free or at a huge discount. The only thing I saw without a discount was the iphone.

My DH has a very "bare" phone. It's not too high tech because he's not a huge phone guy. He talks on the phone a few hours a week (IF that), texts me and his best friend mainly, and takes some pictures on the phone. His phone has given him more issues than I've ever had in my life.

I think that the quality of regular phones is going down. Less people are buying, so they're cheapening them up. You'd have better luck going back in time to 2004 and buying a phone then than getting a regular one now.

I have the iPhone and I love it. My mom just got a Blackberry, and she said that she didn't think she'd use it like she does. Now she's on it ALL the time.

I say splurge and just get a smartphone. Even if you don't use it all the time for different things, you have the option to. And it really does come in handy. I've saved a LOT of money using my scanner app. You'd be surprised how many stores will price match things by just looking at the screen on an iPhone! I also monitor my bank accounts closely through mobile banking apps. Lots of useful things on there.. not just frivolous like a lot of people assume they are.

I love my Droid 2...it goes everywhere with me and I hardly use my laptop anymore! Best thing I ever bought!

Smartphones are the future.../sends vibes of buying a smartphone :cool2:

I would bet if you got a smartphone you would use it more then you think. You can read books on them too :thumbsup2.

LOL!! My phone probably is from 2004! :lmao: There's really nothing wrong with it; just that the battery is pretty much shot. Since it's so old, thought I might as well get a new one.

I'm sure I would use an I phone once I figured it out. But I think I'd be using it just to use it, not coz I "need" to KWIM? Don't need it for work (a nurse), talk to my kids & family from the landline, use computer for online stuff (I'm usually home a lot). Don't know how cost effective it would be. :confused3 Really not looking for an expensive toy.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts! I really appreciate hearing your opinions! :goodvibes

That's how I feel. I'm a SAHM, and I have a netbook that suits my computer needs just fine. I *might* get the minimum data package for my Cosmos Touch so I can use some of the other features (social networking, Verizon Navigator). But I cannot justify a $30+/month data package to go with a fancy new toy.

Exactly!

For me the unexpected bonus of the smartphone was being able to sync your phone calendar to your computer calendar so if you are at the dr and making a future appointment, put it on the phone, shows up on your computer calendar-and vice versa. It is also VERY nice to have while waiting for said dr/dentist/ortho appointment :thumbsup2

My phone is from 2005, not even a camera in it. Though it does phone and text. The battery appears to be fine but it is being held together with scotch tape:lmao: And its been that way for I don't even know how long. I keep tossing around the idea of getting new phones, but it will be probably May earliest before we start looking. Getting a new Processor for my Cochlear Implant in April sometime so that's first.

Hadn't really been thinking abut getting a smartphone, but with the coupon app y'all got me kind of thinking about it now. In a way it would be good for that and also my AVON business to give me just a few extra hours before putting my orders in if anybody has anything last minute. Doesn't happen often, but occassionally. In other ways though DH and I aren't interested in having all of this stuff at our fingertips. We got the phones originally because we are a 1 car family and the phones are great in touching base about running late etc. But he doesn't text AT ALL. I text a bit more than he does but only to my sister and best friend. And its not a regular, every day occurence either.

This is like choosing a case for the Kindle. Way TOO MANY choices:rotfl2:

Good luck with the Implant. :) My DH hates phones. He has a cell from his job & he uses that. He prefers to talk over texting. Actually my son prefers to text & I'd probably hear from him more if I texted more. My DD like to hear her Mama's voice. So we talk not text. :goodvibes Mostly I use my cell if I'm running late & need to let DH know, what do you need from the store, that kind of stuff. And since I've been stuck in several snowstorms over the years (live in Buffalo), need it for those emergencies. Hmmm, now that I think of it, a smart phone would be excellent in a snowstorm, I could Dis instead of stressing about being stuck! :rotfl2: Something else to consider....
