A friend is letting us borrow her chocolate fountain in a few weeks for DS's graduation party. She bought it at BJ's last Cristmas and also bought the chocolte at BJ's. She just used up her last bag of chocolate so I need to buy some for our party.

Does BJ's still carry this or is it a seasonal item? Where else should I look to buy this? Party supply store? Rental store? Craft/candy making supply store? The chocolate from BJ's was delicious BTW. I'm assuming you need a special type of chocolate for the fountain?

Thanks for your help!

I used my chcolate fountain last week and just used chocolate chips. You have to melt the chocolate in the microwave and thin it out with oil. It took a lot of choclate to get it to fall evenly.

I use Ghiradelli chocolate chips mixed with vegetable oil. The fountain I have melts the chips.. other fountains you have to melt the chocolate first before putting it in the fountain.

Believe it or not, Wal Mart's Sam's Choice brand of belgian chocolate is wonderful. They sell it in 7 oz bars, I think they're $1 each. It takes much less oil to thin it down and it's much better tasting than regular chocolate chips.

Merkens makes chocolate especially for hte chocolate fountain where you don't have to add oil to it to make it work. Its a thinner running chocolate and works great. The idea of putting vegetable oil into my chocolate doesn't sit well with me so it was great finding the special fountain chocolate.

:thumbsup2

I was a chocolatier for toooooo many years. We used and loved Merchans Chocolate, but Ghiradelli chips are IMHO just as good, just a bit pricier. Avoid the oil though and grab a tiny bottle of lecithin. Just the tiniest dab will work wonders.

I got my Sephra fountain from Williams-Sonoma (believe me, it was a gift card purchase, and a big sale!) The chocolate packages were $28 in the store -- online from sephra.com, $20. They have different flavors.

No oil needs to be added at all, they're ready to go, just place in the fountain and let it melt (you need to supervise and stir at this stage)

They're pretty tasty to eat as a small snack, too!

You can also get a big box of skewers for a few bucks.
