chip for 1/2 can we use prior to race?

I have my chip for the ½ marathon(the Donald). I plan on doing a 5k in August here in town, can we use the same chip? I have a friend that used hers for a 5k recently and it didn’t work. Do we have to do anything special besides register it?

If tehy use ChampionChips, it hsould work. You have to register your number with the race people, though. Usually, tehy will have a computer set up at package pick-up (if they are allowing outside chips) to check and make sure it's working. SO, amke sure you take your chip to package pickup.
