I know how to use chopsticks, but I find it much easier to eat certain Chinese foods like rice and smaller items with a fork. I realize I am the only person in the entire restaurant using a fork, and I could care less. How about you? Do you care how you "look" in a chic restaurant, or would you use a fork because it picks up certain foods better?

I use both- if the pieces are chunkier then I use chopsticks. I am horrible with trying to get the rice so I just grab the fork. It doesn't bother me at all but I don't usually eat at fancy Chinese food places.

I generally use chopsticks for the meal. But if I get a hand cramp halfway through, I go for the fork.

I don't do chopsticks.....but my 3 year old sure loves to play with them. ;) I am a fork kinda girl.

Chopsticks, but I do agree that it is easier to pick up chinese rice with a fork.

I use a fork when eating Chinese, but I use chopsticks when eating Japanese! Weird, huh?

I cannot eat chinese food without chopsticks, it just doesn't seem right. Now if I make my own chinese food at home I eat it with a fork :confused3

I do either. I actually am okay using chopsticks for the smaller stuff but find a fork easier for the big stuff!

I use chopsticks but not because of how I "look." I don't really have a problem eating with them (thanks to my mom) so I use them.

When we were kids, my mom decided my sister and I were always eating too fast. We'd picked up the habit at school--the quicker you ate, the quicker you got to go out to recess. So, she instituted a new rule--we were using chopsticks to eat everything at home now. I think it slowed us down for MAYBE a week. By the end of one month, we were just as quick with the chopsticks as we were with a fork. :teeth: That's when she decided we could go back to using the regular utensils.

She gave us a great skill, though, my sister and I can still eat just about anything with chopsticks.

Chopsticks for me as well :)

As far as rice -- just do what the Chinese and Japanese do, hold the bowl up to your mouth and shovel :teeth: :teeth:

I stopped using chopsticks when I went to lunch at a Chinese restaurant and the native born Chinese man with me said, "I don't know why American's insist on using chopstick when forks are so much better." He then used a fork.

For Chinese takeout and Ramen noodles I always use chopsticks but in restaurants I usually use a fork unless I'm eating sushi.

Chopsticks all the way. I even use them at home for certain meals. I'm going on a three week trip to China soon, and I'm glad I have the skills to use them.

I like to use the chops sticks. One day I will have them do the rubber band trick for me and then I will be a pro at it :).

My best friend in college was mandarin chinese--her family used chop sticks regularly. Sometimes even if it wasn't chinese food even.

I try and try but still can`t figure out how to use chopsticks. So it is a fork for me. :wave2:

DH and DD8 use chopsticks in the beginning for fun, but soon after go with the fork...me, I just go with the fork to save myself the embarassment and my clothes the mess!!!!!!

Two years ago, we were looking for some practical WDW souveniers - so we brought back some really nice chopsticks for DH and I and kitty chopsticks for DD - along with the chopstick rests. At home, again we all start out using the chopsticks for fun but end up with forks in the end.

I always thought asking for a knife in a Chinese restaurant was a no-no, but we recently saw a table of people of Asian descent all asked for knives!!!
