Chinese buffets are popping up everywhere in Ft. Myers and Cape Coral, FL!

I opened the paper today and I find an ad for a Chinese buffet in Cape Coral, FL that's called the Empress Buffet or something like that. Man, my area has a lot of Chinese buffets! Most of them have similar names. There's China Buffet, then Super China Buffet, then came Kingdom Buffet, and around the corner there's Super Kingdom Buffet. Most claim to be the "largest and most elegant Chinese buffet" in town. How can you be elegant when you are trying to get maximum shovelage at the buffet? Their brouches mostly look the same too.

There's like a million Chinese restaurants in my area, yet not too many Chinese people. I think my house is Chinatown. What's up with this?

Maybe they are all packing up from Boone and heading to Fl. for the winter!

It's funny that Boone is a rather small town, but we have 3 Chinese buffets. Every time a restaurant closes a chinese buffet takes over the building.

Well, too funny Barry!

The one in Wayne, closed due to lack of interest.

The closest one for me is about 25 minutes away... but lets see Wayne has 12 pizza stores just in a three mile radius. And three Chinese stores, two Thai stores, three Oriental Rug places and about 15 hair salons as well.

But there are only one grocery store.

That defies explanation.....

There must be a couple of dozen Chinese buffets in our town. Only one is good. I guess the ingredients for those dishes must be very cost effective for buffet restaurants(i.e. how many people can really eat $6 worth of rice and veggies?)

I have to agree with you Barry! Seems like Chinese buffet's are springing up like weeds!

We have a really good Chinese buffet near us, it's only $4.95 for lunch and $6.95 at dinner. Sunday it's $7.49 as they put crab legs on, plus they have cold shrimp!! I was surprised the smaller Chinese restaurant (no buffet) didn't go out of business when this new one opened but they're still there.

I love Chinese food...but I don't know of any Chinese buffets near here.

I love oriental food...but unfortunately there are very few good restaurants in my area....a few have been closed by the board of health for having....um....other "meats" in their freezer! It's places like that, that give the legit ones a bad name.

There's a place in the mall called Chao Cajun. Cajun and Chinese food...I never knew that the Chinese landed in Louisana!

The only Chinese place in my immediate area is China Buffet. They're a NY franchise. I think I got the buffet once. I usually just order something to go. They use kikomon soy sauce, that brand gives me a headache, I prefer lachoy's brand. It also bugs me they give me a fork to eat my food with. Chop sticks makes the food taste better and I feel weird bringing in my own chop sticks.

Hey Barry welcome to the club.

New Jersey has had them for years. (to my disappointment)

All of the great old Chinese restaurants were gutted (no pun intended..cat gut ..get it) and made into buffets. Now instead of the nice cozy atmosphere and seclusion of the booths, there is (chrome like) brightness and rows of feeding troughs.

BTW the one down the road from me is called “The Fun Buffet”. It was so popular they opened another one up a few blocks away and (you guessed it) named it “The Fun Buffet Two)
