Sounds like it might have improved a lot which would be a good thing.
Haven't had a good meal there yet even though we are perverse enough to keep trying every few years

- at least 5 times with the last time in October 2003.
Much better food in NYC - 3 Chinatowns to choose from - Lower East Side, Flushing and even Brooklyn, at a fraction of the cost.
While I expect to pay more, much more, for the "ambience," I expect the food to be decent, doesn't have to be spectacular. Unfortunately, each time have been extremely disappointing. The last time the food was cold and unappetizing and the portions were small. We even asked the waiter for meal suggestions, to which he replied that he wasn't sure what we would like since most of the menu was geared toward "foreigners."
We'll give it a few more years and then try it again after we run out of places to eat at or if we really need a break from "western" food. Hopefully, we just caught the restaurant on it's bad days (in 5 times) or it's improved. I really wouldn't be surprised. Good Chinese chefs can be very hard to find and/or very transient. Even in Chinatown, the good chefs can be lured away overnight and your favorite place place becomes blah!
But to be honest, if we need a "rice fix," I find the Japan restaurant much tastier. Besides, I personally like the sticky rice more than the long grain. We mix them half and half at home.
