Friday April 1st 2011
We both wake up early before the alarm goes off and decide to try the hotel breakfast, its not great but does us. We hope on a couple of busses and arrive at Golden Gate Park. We arrive at the California Science Institute, I nearly get a free ticket as someone leaves one in the self service machine but he comes back and i'm good and hand it over. The Institute doesn't turn out to be what I thought it was going to be, it sounded a lot better and larger in my guide book (but that was a few years old) and for the price I was quite disappointed but we make the most of it and go round all the exhibit's. One of the best bits was lunch, although that was also a bit pricey it had a huge selection and it was all freshly made.
They had lots of fish
Albino Aligator
Beautiful railing
Penguins!
More penguins - we're both big fans
Big tree
Parrot
Roof thing!
Lunch
When we have seen everything we head out to explore the park, I again got it wrong, I thought the different bits such as the Japanese garden would be free but they weren't. We decide to rent a pedalo and spend an enjoyable hour floating round the lake drinking a slushie.
Again we take 2 busses back to the hotel which are both packed. When we change for the 2nd bus the 1st bus that comes along doesn't stop as its too full but then 3 come along at once! Back at the hotel we rest and then change before jumping a bus down to the wharf. Its really windy tonight. We find a restaurant to eat at, I get an ocean breeze cocktail. DH gets clams for dinner and I have tortalina after my first 2 choices are sold out. Get ghirardelli for pudding then its back to the hotel.
Up next - Union Square, Grace Cathedral, Sealions
